IMO, the video umpire was influenced by a concerted campaign by the Richmond players to claim it was touched, including signalling touched to the bench and refusing to set up for the bounce. The video umpire obviously decided that they because they were so adamant, it must have been touched and he would be hammered if he didn’t overturn it.
Interesting take. Reminds me of the West Indies bowlers in the 80’s. They all go up in appeal and run off to the change rooms. Umpire thinks, “oh well, must be out. Game over lads.”
The score review process has improved but that incident shows it still needs refining.
There was no discernible touch on the ball so I’m not sure how they called it a point.
Hate losing to this mob (of course) BUT … don’t think I’ve ever been so buoyed after a loss.
Weitering gone after 9 minutes. Seriously? But we adapted as best we could and never gave up.
It was just one of those games where little things went their way, although their set shots were terrible.
Not sure what can be done about speeding up the goal review. Whenever a team that’s trailing scores a goal in the first minute of a last quarter it invariably sets up a belief and momentum which rumbles up from nowhere. Instead, we had to stand around for 2 minutes while an obvious goal is scrutinized by substandard technology.
Definitely not blaming the umpires but another “must get out of the centre” moment was stripped away by a block in the ruck against De Koenig? Very, very dubious.
Let the Pies have their moment today. I know who I’d rather be on for this season and next.
The Doggies couldn’t kick straight in the last because they were fatigued. Why were they fatigued? BECAUSE WE SMASHED THEM in the first 2 and a bit quarters. We always struggled in the past to get that extra goal to create that psychological gap. Great signs all round. LOB’s tackle best since Fraser Brown?
Always fear for TDK, very brave for a slender lad and I hope he is ok and it isnt some bad concussion. We can never take a trick and its always our key players who get injured.
Always horrible to see those incidents. But what horrified me more is that our medical staff allowed him to rise to his feet - even helped him! WTF?!?
Is there no department of our club which is not totally inept? I can’t bring myself to watch it again but, from memory, one of the staff was clearly signalling for a stretcher and I think the doctor didn’t arrive until AFTER he tried to jog off and collapsed again. Surely basic training tells you to immobilize the head and neck in order to mitigate the potential of further damage and wait until the doctor arrives?
Zac Butters needs a shirtfront next time he plays, cheap shot early on Newman with the swinging arm/fist tackle to the mid section should have had him in the book, but wasnt even a free. Seem him do it before too with cheap shots and that kid needs sorting out.
Outrageous verdicts by the Tribunal. You can’t tell me Mackay braced for impact any less than Plowman did. Watch Mackay’s eyes - he takes them OFF the ball.
Plowman AND Mackay suspended? Me happy. Plowman AND Mackay exonerated? Me less happy. Plowman suspended and Mackay exonerated? OUTRAGEOUS!!!
We've a generation of AFL industry working against us, all the key people in the industry now in their 40s, 50s and 60s think their own failed careers are all due to our TPP ...
I agree that the salary cap punishment has been more impactful and longer lasting than most people realise. I would have thought one generation (i.e. roughly 20 years) would usually be enough to purge all residual baggage and start afresh but it’s a good point you make - football does not follow the same natural cycles and rhythms as some other streams of life. Having said that, we haven’t really helped ourselves and I don’t look kindly upon those who always play the “victim” card.
The whole club has that “woe is us” mentality which is only magnified when the media hacks join in with their patronizing tone. How often during the telecast yesterday did BT ask his fellow commentator, “For how much longer are Carlton supporters going to accept these type of losses?”? Oh I don’t know Brian - for another 6 years, 3 months and 3 weeks. WTF?!
Been reading the usual threats from people not renewing memberships. Can’t say I blame them. I’ll be reconsidering but it’s more due to my age and the pandemic. Can’t believe we have record membership numbers. If only our football operations/fitness/recruiting/coaching departments could attract the same caliber of personnel as the marketing department!
Not sure I'd agree with the media assessment, he's not polled heavily so far in his career, his game style doesn't suit and the Brownlow often goes to run and carry types that get noticed in the clear! In 2019 he won the Rising Star and only polled 6 votes, he probably had an even better year last year and only got 8 votes!
Oddly, I won't be surprised to find Cripps out polls him ...
Tend to agree. He’s so unobtrusive. Doesn’t remonstrate, doesn’t argue, doesn’t overcelebrate, hasn’t dyed his hair.
Just.plays.brilliant.footy.
Mind you, he’s got more of a chance now than if he’d played a few years ago.
But, he is still best 22. Still provides polish that we sorely lack. His ability to kick a goal out of nothing, or to be a crucial link in a centre clearance that actually leads to something, or to be clean when others are fumbly are what we desperately need.
We’re talking about Murphy, right? Marc Murphy? As in, Marc with a ‘c’?
