Everyone knows that the POTUS is a pathological liar and I’m not sure that people really take his election promises seriously but let’s have a look at how he’s travelling:

1. Deport undocumented migrants.  Does Guantanamo Bay count?  The minor issue of other nations not co-operating and the US courts blocking his unconstitutional orders have stymied this one.

2. End inflation.  Just shows that he is an economic illiterate, particularly with his crazy tariff proposals.

3. Make foreign exporters pay tariffs.  As above, that’s not how tariffs work and he backed down as soon as Canada and Mexico retaliated.

4. Tax cuts.  Wait and see.

5. Cut climate regulations.  That’s a tick, apart from the fact that the States control most relevant regulations.

6. End Ukraine war "within 24 hours".  Look a flying pig!

7. No abortion ban.  Wait and see.

8. Pardon some Jan 6 insurrectionists.  As has been well-documented, his short attention span got the better of him and he pardoned the lot, even the most vicious, violent bastards.  I don’t think that you can give that a tick.

9. Sack Special Counsel Jack Smith “within two seconds”. Smith resigned on 10 Jan so there’s no tick for that one.

Then there’s his post-inauguration pronouncements about Panama, Greenland, Canada and Gaza, none of which were raised when he was doing his “weaves” (code for short attention span verbal diarrhoea).

How refreshing is it to have a politician actually do most of the things they said they would pre election.

Our woke politicians in Oz just crap on and on and then when it comes to the crunch do 2 parts of stuff all they promised they would or worse like our mate Dan did backflips on policies that shaped him getting into power on. Criminal.

Trump has the guts to stand against the woke brigade and the PC BS and hopefully more leaders will have the courage to follow his lead as things were getting seriously out of control.

Locally, Albo and Allan are both dead in the water IMO just hope the replacements have a bit more punch to their runs in power. I hold my breath.

Ease up on the smoke mate…
Let’s go BIG !

Trump's a lot like the dodgy used car salesman.
He'll tell you what you want while he's making the sale.
Point out all the good features of what the Trumpmobile can do...
But once you get it out of the car yard it goes at half-speed.
Take what he says with a grain of salt.
He operates his administration like a salesman not a statesman.
So he'll make the initial offer, and then he'll wheel and deal it down to a realistic and partially acceptable one...and probably still screw folks on the fine print.

No-one thought he was going to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours.
There was never going to be mass deportations on the scale he said, given the logistics.
There was always going to be challenges to his executive orders...that was a given, and it remains to be seen how they play out.
Some may be successful, but others may not be as they go up through the relative courts.
Getting his own legal troubles in the rear windscreen was always a goal.
The Jan 6th pardons were always going to happen to keep faith with his core base.
Vindictive sackings were always on the cards.
His behaviour is what it is...I don't know why we see it as anything different.
I don't know why we get surprised with the things he does.
He'll always be pulling these unicorns out of the hat.
That's what the Gaza one is.
There was always going to be this flurry of activity in the early days.

The reality of the situation is we can do nothing about it, and this is what the next four years will look like.
Getting upset by Donald Trump's antics is a waste of energy.
The one group that could possibly have done anything about it dropped the ball big time.

If you believe that "No-one thought he was going to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours," you mustn't have watched any vox-pops with MAGA supporters.  Same with all of his promises; anyone with a lick of sense knew that most were unachievable, if not impossible, and/or would not produce the desired outcomes.  The problem is that only 74.4M of those people chose to vote.

Now there's a bunch of Americans who can't understand why the cost of eggs hasn't fallen  ::)

Yep
When I said 'no-one' thought he could stop the war in Ukraine in 24 hours...
I meant no one with a 'lick of sense', an understanding of history and world relations.
For the Maga folks it might be seen as a failure.
For most people it was just an idle boast he had no chance of pulling off.

The other thing I said was that there was only one group that could have made a difference.

There are actually two groups who share the major responsiblity for Trump being in power.

Firstly there are the Democrats who spent four years looking behind them to see where Trump was, rather than keeping their eyes on the goal of being the best they could be  and with a good choice of candidate for the role of President.
In the end they had to swap out someone who should have been under 'elder' care for a VP who had spent much of the term as an unpopular and largely unsighted figure.

The other group are the 42% of people who didn't bother to register a vote.
They more than any get the government they deserve.

Trump is a polarizing figure...but it goes a bit beyond the extremes of 'love him' or 'hate him'.
We look at the situation from a distance so we're not experiencing the everyday life of folks in the states.
People who supported him would have voted for a range of reasons, some very specific to their own situation or views.
They weren't all 'dills' and there would have been many who would have understood that the things he was saying weren't achievable, but hoping things in general would be better.
There would have been many who made their mark with uncertainty, knowing they were taking a risk, but not 'feeling it' for the party that was in power at the time.
It's not like they didn't know the guy they were voting in.

Trump got in because of poor economic conditions, increasing homeless numbers etc. The average American wouldn't be able to tell you where Ukraine or Gaza was or what tariff's were.
When people are doing it tough they want anything else but the incumbent government. That's how Dutton will get in here and how you sell to the average man in the street is keep it simple which Trump does well unlike Biden who babbled and Kamala who giggled their way through the election.
When the candidates are so poor people have to lower their expectations of the outcome and it's the same here.
Albanese, Dutton, Bandt, Palmer....does anyone think any of that lot will be making Australia great again..

The one thing we have going for us is that if they really turn out to be 'duds' it's much easier to remove them than it is to oust a US president.
Their party colleagues will take care of that if the polls go South.

While I’m favour of a republic, the last thing I want is a US style president who doesn’t answer to Parliament or his/her party room.

I think that we should go to four year terms but only because our system’s checks and balances work pretty well.

Give it time you might simply be about to serve the next Emperor.  The question is from where do they hail from?  Usa? China? Russia? Russia is looking more unlikely as time has gone on and the USA is looking more like an empire fallen so I think it's probably china's time to really advance although if rumour is to be believed they will collapse in 10 years.

This spells a war to me.  When you see the strongest world powers all looking a bit wobbly that usually leads to a power vacuum and then an emergence of a different player.

Nice summary, EB1.
I actually don't think Trump won the last election, the Democrats lost it with such an out-of-touch, incompetent, nonsensical and irrelevant messaging, that around 13-15m of their supporters didn't even turn up to vote!
And when Trump's grandiose message that virtually everyone will be millionaires under his Presidency, and with so many Yanks (as you point out) being ignorant/illiterate to anything outside their state, sheesh, perhaps even their suburb... Trump's a monty to get their votes.

If it does all add up to war, what kind of war? Trade war? Boots on the ground war? Nuclear war? I hope they all realise that a nuclear war would be economically disastrous as so many countries would end up being uninhabitable for quite some time! Any way you look at it though, the human cost would be horrendous.

Labor are finished in Victoria and it will be the same in the Federal Election. Not expecting anything from the Liberals either and the Greens are not a serious alternative with zero economic  policies.
I don't blame Jacinta Allan, she inherited a sinking ship from that clown Andrews and Victoria won't recover for a long time regardless of who is running the State.
