The 2014 Fixture

It appears we play the Tigers only once in 2014 on Grand Prix weekend. There are 3 groups of 6 teams based on finishing order last season. We are in the top 6 group and must play the Cats and Power twice. We have Bombers and Pies twice also.

The AFL aren't going to do this. The Carlton-Richmond rivalry is as strong as its been for a long time. If they're not stupid, they'll always fixture 2 games against them.

Or perhaps its wishful thinking of 2 games = 2 wins  ;D

Yeah, see I don't get this....we finished 9th, surely they should do the draw based on H&A ladder positions, not who won what in finals ?  Are they seriously suggesting that Essendon will have had their draw based on a position of 9th ?....after the AFL put them there !

wrong, wrong, wrong.

Life is pain....... anyone who says differently is selling something.

That's the exact excuse the AFL used for moving Essendon to 9th instead of stripping their points entirely and ensuring they finish last.

Apparently it is just too complicated to generate a fixture based on Essendon's ladder position prior to the sanctions, so the best they could come up with was to move Essendon to 9th so they're in that middle bracket of 6 teams :P.

Must be some mathematical geniuses employed down at AFL HQ!

The AFL is stupid and there is only 1 Blues v Tigers game.  ;)

But our season opener against Port Adelaide at Etihad should draw quite the crowd... as will Richmond's season opener against the Gold Coast at Metricon :P.

Andrew Demetriou and his administration have ballsed up a lot of things during his time in charge, however the one thing they had typically gotten right was all things financial. The AFL had gone from strength to strength in terms of the money they were generating. Now it appears they are determined to balls that up too. Could AD be making a move across to the NRL or something and this is his parting shot? :P

I'm just glad we play Port and Geelong twice and not Hawthorn and Fremantle.

I suppose though, at the end of the day if we're going to be a legitimate contender we have to beat the best. I don't want to be the team that skates through on an easy draw. Lets just make sure we smash the Cheats, Pies and Tiges (in our one outing against them).

Poor form from the AFL though. Why exactly do we need to compete with the NRL's early start? If you're into AFL, the NRL season is irrelevant. It's not like there's going to be thousands of people tossing up between following an NRL team or an AFL team and they weekend they start is going to be the deciding factor. Carlton V Richmond at the G should always be the start to the season.

And that is exactly how we all should think. I hope we do play the Dawks twice.

Wrong.

R1 is grand prix weekend. We play Port Adelaide at Etihad on Sunday (race day).
We play Tigers round 2 on the Thursday.

Ok, so I mucked up a week in the translation. Point is Tigers once, Bombers and Pies twice, Cats and Power twice. Hard work being a news breaker.  ::)

Hilarious how even under the new system to do the draw we still manage to play the pies and bombers twice.

Love it how they call it a draw when it's meticulously rigged and engineered by the AFL to ensure the best financial outcome for themselves and their children clubs.

We only have ourselves to blame for the draw - by half arsing it last season, and finishing in the bottom of the top 8.

Tank properly or finish top 4.

2014 will again be a tough test but at least we have had a full season with MM at the helm.
