I'd be going youthful openers for the future at the top and returning Head to the middle order. Uzzie should have retired after the Indian series.
Sri Lanka are mediocre and no guideline for form and will in the bottom divisional section of the new Test cricket comp which is being discussed at the moment and I think will come into being sooner than later.

Sri Lanka is the fifth ranked Test nation and they even got a player in the Wisden Test team 🙄

Uzzie is still consistently making runs so I’m happy to stick with him for now. The bloke who surprises me with his apparent invulnerability to the selectors’ scrutiny is Marnus.

I would have had Konstas opening with Uzzie and Head at first drop.  The other newbies can follow Smith as they are named now.
There are four decent test cricket nations and daylight to the rest and Sri Lanka would be in the rest category.
The Wisden world eleven rankings have about as much credibility as Luke Sayers does at the minute , how many Aussies in that team ?
Agree on Konstas and I would have continued with McSweeney too and groomed them for the Ashes and the future.
Marnus isn't going great but is a proven performer and I'd persist with him at No 3 given the lack of alternatives and at least he is still young enough to be able to turn it around.

Uzzie's double ton has probably cemented his place in the team for another couple of years.  Well-batted, even if the opposition bowlers are about as threatening as rain is on the Bellarine.

Well done to Smith for finally getting over the 10,000 runs mark.  It was interesting that he also passed the 5,000 runs in away Tests too.  I suspect that he'd be among rare company of batters who've scored as many runs away as at home.

Jim Maxwell was spot on; Wisden's Test eleven was “Bazbullsh1tted.”

I hope Connolly's batting is better than his bowling, which has most unimpressive.
Stupid selection, picked way before he is anywhere near ready.

He hasn't taken a first class wicket yet, so not sure how his bowling could be rated!

Exactly.  And the fact that he couldn't land 'em on the money -because he hasn't bowled enough- was damning. Maybe he will redeem himself with the bat, but it was terrible slap in the moosh for Murphy, who is a really, really good spinner.

Connolly certainly didn't bat himself into more test action. Still, he is just a youngster. I can understand the idea of blooding guys, but this one hasn't come off so far.

I believe they were supposed to be chasing quick runs so it's probably not a fair time to assess, however Smith's captaincy and use of bowlers is disgraceful, blokes like Murphy and Connolly getting a measly 2 or 3 overs then kyboshed for someone like Head is just ridiculous.

Flogging it straight to square leg was not a considered shot.  Given that Webster's filthy offies were preferred, the Connolly selection was a big fat FAIL.

HS Reporting:
Australian spinner Matt Kuhnemann reported for suspect bowling action

Matthew Kuhnemann’s dream tour of Sri Lanka has turned into a nightmare, with the Australian spinner’s action raising the suspicions of match officials.

Australian cricket officials have been shocked by having the bowling action of their series-star in Sri Lanka Matthew Kuhnemann queried by match officials.

It’s understood the left-armer who was branded by fellow spinner Nathan Lyon as the bowler of the series has been reported in Sri Lanka and will now have to go and undertake mandatory testing within the next three weeks to determine the legality of his action.

The tests are likely to take place at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane and be analysed by a bio-mechanist who will report his findings back to the International Cricket Council.

not sure why they would be shocked - his action does look a little iffy at first glance

Agree....but if he took one wicket instead of 16 wickets in the Sri Lankan series would anyone be that interested in reporting him?

To a schmuck like me, It looks iffy way before he rolls towards the top of the arc (ie when his hand is down low) if that makes sense. It wasn't his first rodeo, why now?
