I think Gibbs standing amongst supporters has improved where he wont be the whipping boy.......he was reasonable in his contract talks and didnt want a massive deal and has become more of a player who is seen to win his own ball when the heat is on and is now influencing games.
I'm not a fan of the Northern Blues setup and also want a standalone team but to me the greatest problem is Luke Webster who I dont think is up to developing AFL players....
You won't get any argument from me!
Blokes go back to the 2s, then go backwards even further there, I think Webster has turned into a disaster as far as development goes! The only guys we have that go back to the 2s and do OK are McLean and Graham and they look self motivated.
I suspect our club was thinking when LFA and UFA come in we were going to do the old Carlton and just open the doors letting the AFLs best walk in, because they wanted to play at Carlton, but it won't and didn't happen. In the process we neglected player development or at least failed to take it seriously. Our clubs only solution to problems is money, effort isn't seriously considered!
And just being generally effin' smarter! We seem to be just bogged down in an unimaginative, unwieldy, unresponsive and moribund corporate culture. You know, the latter of the three classic types 1. Those who make things happen 2. Those who watch things happen 3. Those who wonder what happened.
White is certainly no star but an average foot soldier IMO. Does the job he's given mainly to a competent level and doesn't mind a bit of the rough stuff - doesn't take backward steps. A good ordinary player as Sir Jack Dyer would have said.
I'm hoping he can become more of a stand out next year and lift his game to the next level.
Up until the last few games I had serious concerns that Rowe had possibly out performed himself and would be in danger of slipping back to mediocre again. I no longer have those worries as, to quote MM, he has truly crossed his Rubicon. He knows he can match it with the best now and has gained tremendous confidence. I'm sure he has established himself now, knows his calling and will go on with it for us.
Not so confident with White, but there have been some encouraging signs. Maybe he'll make that river crossing next year?
OMG just stated watching thee replay, how is Tim Watson calling Watto's free in the square incidental contact and lucky? His arms got chopped and he got belted in the face FFS.
Tim Watson's commentary doesn't get any better Carrots....he was just disgraceful all match
Agree on Watson...just biased dribble for the whole game
People went nuts over Eddie commentating Coll games........ But a bloke who's son is playing and who basically recruited the coaching set up of a club is OK to be unbiased in his call??? "Patty Ryder could be the most athletic player in the comp"...... c'mon Tim!!!
