Robert Heatley Stand / Goal kickers 2020
OK, so Lods didn't do his list this year and i don't think its had much coverage otherwise, so i thought i'd compile a fwe things re our goalkickers for 2020.

Firstly, Harry McKay wins it and is our first dual winner since Eddie Betts in 2010+2012, and our first back to back winner since Fev in 2008+2009.

He won it with 21 goals, which is our lowest total since 1964 when Ian Nankervis won it with 18. Incidentally, thats the last time the Dees won a flag.  :o Although to be fair to Harry, it was a shortened season....and he did miss games.

So here is our Top 10 list.....(conversion G+B) [Adj. Conv: G+B+misses]
21.15 (58%) [43%] - Mckay (13 games) @ 1.6 goals/game
16. 8  (66%) [46%] - Casboult (17) @ 0.94
13. 4 (76%) [72%] - Newnes (17) @ 0.76
13.13 (50%) [39%] - Betts (15) @ 0.87
12.11 (52%) [43%] - Martin (15) @ 0.80
11. 6 (65%) [52%] - Gibbons (15) @ 0.73
 9. 2 (82%) [56%] - McGovern (12) @ 0.75
 8. 4 (67%) [61%] - Walsh (17) @ 0.47
 7.11 (39%) [33%] - Cripps (17) @ 0.41
 6. 6 (50%) [40%] - Cuningham (12) @ 0.50

Fun fact the following defenders all had at least 1 shot on goal this year
Plowman (3 shots)
Williamson (2)
Jones (2)
Docherty (1)
Simpson (1)
Weitering (1)
Polson (1)

Yet only Williamson (1.1) and Simpson (1.0 in his last game!) were able to find the big sticks

That is a backline total of 2.8....which is perhaps why they are in the backline. ;)
FWIW, SPS didn't have a shot on goal.

Lets see what a difference it makes in 2021 with Charlie pushing Harry for top honours...

Ladies Lounge / 2 New Blues + NOW another new blue

Quote
The Carlton Football Club has significantly boosted its playing list, welcoming star midfielder Elise O’Dea and speedster Maddy Guerin to the Club on two-year deals after completing a trade with Melbourne today.

O’Dea and Guerin arrive at Ikon Park in exchange for the 15th overall pick in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft.

We got both Odea and Guerin for pick 15. That is the pick we got for Sarah Hosking.

Sarah out, ODea and Guerin in.

Thats a big win for us.

edit: Now another one...

Ladies Lounge / Jayde Van Dyke traded to St. Kilda

THE Carlton Football Club can confirm it has completed a trade with St Kilda that will see defender Jayde Van Dyk move to Moorabbin for a swap of third-round draft picks.

The Blues move up six spots in the third round of the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft after receiving pick No.36 overall (currently No.21 in Victoria region) in exchange for Van Dyk and pick No.42 overall.

A fringe player who is moving for opportunity basically.

We move up a couple of picks and give the player what she wanted.

Win-win.

Ladies Lounge / AFLW - 4 blues cut.

The Carlton Football Club has informed Joanne Doonan, Emerson Woods, Katie Harrison and Sharnie Whiting that they will not be offered new contracts for next season.

The irish woman Jo Doonan makes sense. Played a couple games this year.
Who knows if/when she can come back to the country....if she even wants too....or if we want her too.

Harrison and Whiting never played a game.

Woods played the 1 and had some decent wraps on her. Good athlete IIRC.

Fair call in the end as competition for spots is magnified given the smaller list sizes.
With Sarah Hosking supposedly gone, and Elise O'Dea supposedly on the way in. It will mean 4 draft picks, unless we sign someone else.

Robert Heatley Stand / The rise.... and RISE of Marc Pittonet
I've recently made comments about Pittonets ruckwork.
Best i've seen from a bloke in navy blue since Matty Allen.

I've also gone on to say that his form could potentially spell the end for our beloved Matty Kreuzer.

People have their own opinions, but i prefer to back it up with stats where possible.
So I've done just that with the help of some new stats i've come across in regards to rucking.

Stats used are
RC - Ruck Contests - How many times you've competed in a 1-on-1 ruck contest
HO - Hitout - Normal stat, how many hitouts you've one
HA - Hitout to Advantage - how useful those hitouts were. Was it to the direct advantage of your team.
HO% - Hitout % - What percentatge of hitouts that you competed in, did you win.
HA% - Hitouts to Advantage % - What percentage of hitouts that you won, went to advantage
CA% - Contests to Advantage % - What percentage of ruck contests that you competed in, resulted in a hitout to advantage

This last one is the key as it tells us what are the chances that we will get a direct advantage from any give ruck contest.
HA% only tells us how effective the hitouts we get our hands on are and it doesn't include the contests we lost.

With that in mind.
Lets look at our week by week of Pittonet vs Opponent

R#  RC   HO  HA  HO%  HA%  CA%  Player
R2   65   23   10   35%   43%   15%  Pittonet
R2   72   34   10   47%   29%   14%  Gawn

R3   65   36   15   55%   42%   23%  Pittonet
R3   50   17     4   34%   24%     8%  Stanley

R4   58   20     6   34%   30%   10%  Pittonet
R4   46   24     2   52%     8%     4%  Bellchambers

R5   48   22     7   46%   32%   15%  Pittonet
R5   49   22     4   45%   18%     8%  Marshall

R6   60   33   11   55%   33%   18%  Pittonet
R6   73   27     6   37%   22%     8%  English
What does it show us?

Despite not winning the 'hitouts' (which is the only common stat used) his hitout to advantage rate is much higher than any opponent he faces.
Further to that, despite not winning the overall hitouts, the chances of a 'hitout to advantage' when he lines up in a ruck contest is superior than anyone he comes up against. (This is the final bolded column)

After spending the better part of an hour going through a lot of the above, i a stat which sums up a lot of the above rather simply.

He is "ELITE" in hitouts to advantage competition wide.

Although as mentioned, that is only half the tale.....by extension he would also be ELITE in 'hitouts to advantage from contests rucked in.' The simple difference is the last stat takes into accounts his opponent wins as well.

Ladies Lounge / The best there is - Maddy Prespakis wins AFLW 'brownlow'.

DUAL AFLW best and fairest winner Erin Phillips uttered some prophetic words about this time last year.

Carlton's Maddy Prespakis had just finished an impressive debut season in the competition and offered her congratulations to Phillips after the announcement of her second individual triumph.

Phillips' response? "Don't worry, kid, this will be you one day."

That day took barely 12 months to arrive, with Prespakis' barnstorming start to her AFLW career capped with the 2020 best and fairest award on Tuesday night.

Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 - FINALS WEEK 2 - vs Kangaroos - CANCELLED
No official announcement on when this is yet, but we are definitely playing against the Kangaroos who had a hard fought win against the pies.

Perhaps the pies showed us the gameplan to beat the kangas, but didn't quite have the skill level to pull it off.

Hopefully the Dees show us similar against the Dockers before the Grand Final.

Maddy P the only injury question mark to come out of the game, and given she was back out there, i reckon she is 99.9% likely to play.
Which means we will most likely have an unchanged lineup, yet again, for at least the 4th week in a row.

If we could get the injury luck the girls have in the mens game, we might be half a chance there as well.

In any event, this will be a big game and a big test.

Ladies Lounge / womens.afl - Player of the year - 3 way tie
So the AFLW branch of AFL.com.au website (womens.afl) has their own voting system, similar to ours.

They award 3, 2, 1 after each game....although theirs is not club specific.

In any event, they have tallied the results and its come out a 3-way tie and one of those is none other than Maddie Prespakis.

13 – Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne), Karen Paxman (Melbourne), Maddy Prespakis (Carlton)
12 – Kiara Bowers (Fremantle)
11 – Alyce Parker (GWS)
10 – Jaimee Lambert (Collingwood)
6 – Ash Riddell (North Melbourne), Britt Bonnici (Collingwood), Caitlin Greiser (St Kilda), Dana Hooker (West Coast), Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide), Ellie Blackburn (Western Bulldogs), Emily Bates (Brisbane)

Ladies Lounge / AFLW 2020 - Elimination final - Carlton vs Brisbane - Sunday 1:10pm
So new finals system is out and we are now playing Brisbane on Sunday 1:10pm.

All 3 other games are on Saturday.

We have an unchanged lineup over the past few weeks but now we have the option of bringing in Van Dyke who has recovered from her ankle.

Hopefully Harrington pulls up ok.

I doubt any other changes are likely.
