Martin is a 3rd tall in our forward line with no JSOS down there and is a marking target as well as a creative ground player. Orazio and Durdin are traditional small forwards only so different players to Martin imho and not competing for the same position. I think Martin also makes life easier for Charlie and Harry as that alternative target. The player being missed is Fogarty who provides the extra pressure you need as the modern forward. Playing both Orazio and Durdin in the same team doesn't work....
"The player being missed is Fogarty who provides the extra pressure you need as the modern forward."
Correct!! He provides what others fail to produce. Get Fogarty and Martin back into the forward line (as we had at the end of last year) and watch the ripple effect take place.
I'll go even deeper - Moir has had a tough run in the VFL in a very weak team limited with opportunity. He should be sub instead of Fantasia.
Let's not kid ourselves, Moir is 10,000 miles off. Needs a heap of development in so many areas and is being given time to do that. Fast tracking our high draft picks is 'old Carlton' done in desperation in the past (a small number of exceptions) and ruined a number of careers.
I don’t see that at all. Young’s contested possessions and spoils are comparable with Weitering’s and Kemp’s and his teammates don’t hesitate to give him the ball if he’s the best option.
He was the victim of some good blocks by the Geelong forwards, some poor umpiring decisions and poor play by his teammates up the field, but his game was more than adequate.
Our major problem at the moment is that Lewis Young has no confidence in his ability.......and the backline players themselves (Weltering, Newman, Williams Boyd, Kemp) have no confidence in him either after having the likes of McGovern, Saad, Docherty down back who they could rely on. Bring in McGovern for Young and see the difference.
How do we feel about S Durdin, Lewis and Kemp being in charge of looking after Cameron and Hawkins?? Simple answer, cut off their supply!! Easier said than done. If Weitering is out, our 'next man up' mantra will be tested to the max!!!
Geelong have traveled 3 times already this year, played in the rain last week, are very conscious of overloading their aging players (Hawkins rested recently) and have played Saints, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Bullies, North and Brisbane.
Have they REALLY been put to the sword, especially away from their paddock?? A similar situation to GWS last week, they have the wins....but against who?? They are ripe for the picking!!
Don't mind replacing Fantasia, but Moir is still a fair way off. He will be given plenty of time to develop before being paraded out a la Binns. With one or two exceptions, we are right into development and ensuring young players have served a comprehensive apprenticeship.
The teams that GWS have beaten don't actually make up a Cox Plate field.... An underdone Collingwood, North, WCE, Suns, St Kilda. They are not in scintillating for and neither are we. We are most vulnerable against 6th - 12th ranked teams but seem to come to the party against the big dogs. They are due to drop one, we are due to rebound!
