Blah-Blah Bar / RIP Shane McGowan
Amazing that he lasted so long, but while The Pogues had issues, what a great band!

I remember seeing someone wearing a Pogues t shirt in the late 80s.  Judging the person, I assumed Pogues were punk.

I was introduced to their music some years later (early 90s) and me and my mate laughed at how wrong I was - and how good some of their tunes are.

Dirty Old Town, Fiesta, Pari of Brown Eyes and of course (which we will hear heaps of now if it isn't cancelled) Fairy Tale of New York.

His last few years didn't look like fun - he took ownership and knew it was his fault.

He certainly had an impact on me, in my impressionable youth (early 20s!)

Depends where you're looking and what you pay attention to - I saw plenty of coverage.

The only reason I knew about the AFL drafts was because of this forum,  but  I can only tell you #1 pick outside the Blues. I don't really care or pay attention to it.

What a stupid piece of scheduling - a World cup that goes for ever, then the finalists will (not that this was known) will play 5 T20s less than a week later.

India won't play a first XI and Australia probably can't be stuffed either - Matthew Wade Captain?

When too much cricket is too much cricket.

I went to bed after 23 overs of our batting as Head and Marnus didn't look too bothered.

Magnificent fielding and bowling by the Aussies.

India paid the price for a few of things:
 - trying to get a pitch that would suit them more than the Aussies
 - having a very long tail meant that set batsmen still couldn't go after the bowling
 - changing their bowling order - Shami at first change had been more than doing his job, as had Siraj opening.
 - not being under pressure at anytime during the tournament

Listen to us oldies! I am a type 2 diabetic and was given a new drug to reduce the insulin I need to take and they seem to stress the side effects (diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea) and to stop taken it immediately if you get any effects.  As I didn't really want that, I asked what the likelihood of side effects were and was told about 5% of patients, but there is no of of knowing what the triggers are.

I was a bit nervous, but everything was fine.  I suppose they have to warn about side effects.

I do get slight nausea when blood pressure drops too low (rare).

Certainly sympathies to those who do cop the side effects.

Pretty amazing - I was on a zoom call but had a fair bit of attention on cricinfo.  Once they got down to under a run a ball, it was all over, providing that Cummins could hold up his end - seemed to just have to navigate the last ball or two of an over.

If the Aussies actually put a whole game together we might give India a scare.  I think we play SA in the semi - bat first make them chase.  Then India in the final - bowl first and make them defend and we're a small chance.  India are pretty ominous.

Yep, great clip.  The song's sentimentality reminded me immediately of George Harrison's When we were fab from the late 80s.

It's kind of wierd listening to it because it feels like a post Beatles song, but just by one of them until there are some quite typical Beatles structure/progressions to it.

In the 90s, there was also Natalie King Cole singing Unforgettable 'with' her father, which was considered ground breaking.

This is taking things to a new level - pretty fascinating how they are able to do all that.

Not sure that it is, Lods.

Perry entertained a whole heap of people and had his struggles - a lot of these people 'knew' him as the characters that he played and have a connection.

Armed conflict sucks.  There is a hopelessness and despair attached to it - there becomes a point where we need a break from it being the lead item for 15 mins everyday.  It is still reported and covered but off the front page for a short while.  It won't disappear - although the Ukraine/Russia conflict isn't as prominently reported even though it is still quite active.  That may because it is 18 months in.

I agree LP.  I was surprised at the commentary.

I think they have updated the rules so that you can't deceive the batsman with where the ball is (eg pretend to mis-field, batsmen run and get run out because fielder had the ball).

There was definitely lag and disinterest in the play by the keeper.

Thanks LP.  The other issue around Ozempic is that there is no supply in Aus at the moment so diabetics can't get it. Too many people are using it just for weight loss. This has been an issue for a while now.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: The Voice
I found the whole "silence for a week thing" extremely childish given how much work there is to do, poor leadership IMO. Imagine

I get it. They have put in years of hard work of trying to get a solution, one presents and it is not accepted by the public.  This is a big knock back for them.  They need some time to digest, process and think about 'what next'.

They could have presented it in a better way than they did.

There are four states/territories that already have Indigenous Advisory bodies:
 - ACT
 - Vic
 - SA - they legislated their own Voice - first elections to this body are in March
 - Qld

This may be due to the Feds palming off some of the outcomes of closing the gap to the States.

I believe all States are heading down the treaty path - some further down the track than others - don't think there are any in place.

I don't really know what treaty is and tbh can't be bothered finding out.
