Both Collingwood and us have named pretty strong teams. Declase was probably a bit stiff to be dropped. However, it is VERY good to see Gussy Sheahan back. Hopefully he can stay on the park. Lamb and Sumner are also back from injury.

Looks like a decent team - lets keep the ball rolling

Would like to see Pickett and Army changing positions - Pickett playing more midfield

Everyone who was disappointed that Cuningham or Polson didn't get selected well, this week Kerridge and Graham aren't there to get it 35 times .

Cuningham needs to get it 25+ times or have a even spread of influential possessions throughout the game, not his 10 minute burst and then disappear for 2 quarters.

how many interchange players are you allowed in the VFL?
Title: Re: VFL 2017 Rd 4: Carlton vs. Collingwood
Post by: crashlander on May 05, 2017, 10:41:10 am
4 interchange players and a special, the 23rd man.

Looking at this line-up, I suggest that Lamb and Palmer have been challenged to step up. Lamb played a little in the Develoment game last week, and I presume that Gorringe did too.
Palmer has underwelmed us to this point, but he has a history of getting the ball.
Lamb was intending to spend more time on the ball: it looks like that is happening.
Sumner also needs to step up, if he is going to remain.

If they do manage to find some form, then we are MUCH better off.
Cuningham and Polson will have roles in the middle, but I don't expect them to be the primary movers around the ground. However, Collingwood would probably aim at stopping guys like Palmer first.

I would like to see Pickett is the middle, as he needs to work on his tank.

Looking at that team the only long term injury we seem to have now is Bryne, with LeBois, SOJ and Fisher with short term injuries only. That's a very healthy list!

Would love to see Sheehan get a good run at it and have a crack at AFL level. He would bring some hardness and run off HB, and we are going to need someone to replace Simmo soon enough.

There is still a bunch of 8 mid aged blokes in that team IMO [Lamb, Sumner, Boek, Sheehan, Buckley, Gorringe, KJ, Jones] who have probably only got about 6 weeks to make a case for re-selection in the one's before their cards are finally marked for good. Army and Palmer are at the end of their useful life, but may be kept around for development or coaching purposes.

It's a strong side and great to see some pressure being put on.

Like the look of our side and agree Capt Crash that this looms as a good contest. Think I'll head to Victoria Park on Sunday and check it out, especially to watch some of our blokes (Cuningham?) work off the ball. Victoria Park eh? Better not smile or they'll try to steal my teeth!!  :P  ;D

Loved the look of this guy from day 1. If his body allows him to have a decent run he's a lock in the 1s. Will take White's place in a flash.

Better version than Touhy just body keeps failing him.

Holy moly.  We must be building depth.  At any given week half a dozen of those blokes were starting 22 in the seniors for much of last year.  Not a bad looking reserves side, although the enemy looks half decent on paper too.

Surely it's gotta be good for the entire club when the magoo's are strong and playing good footy.  Maybe that's where our development has been falling down over the last decade or so.  Not enough depth, not learning to play properly and win in the 2's?  Some old story I kinda remember is a bunch of Geelong kids (Bartel & co.) playing great footy in the 2's together and then replicating it in the 1's .

Shizen Victoria Park, Korchek's parents are in for a real eye opener, they have apparently flown in to watch him play!

I hope the club isn't dressing them in Carlton colours without providing a disposal poncho, and it's not for the rain!

Will never forget playing little league, representing Fitzroy, at Vic Park.  Being spat on and called a C+++ by an  old woman as I came down the race is something I will never forget.

They were filming "The  club" when we were in the rooms. After we cleaned up in the second's rooms they took us into the senior rooms about 5 minutes before they ran out.   I wore my No. 36 (Mark MacClure) jumper with pride... Rene Kink suggested that I  was at the wrong game, but he did give me a Mars bar!  He was the only one that even acknowledged we were there.

They'll be happy. Just took a great mark in a pack of 6 and slotted a goal.

We lead 31-17, mid 2nd qtr, after a slow start.

Peter Jackson VFL 2017
Collingwood   1.3  2.5  2.9  6.10 (46)
Northern Blues   1.1  5.2  8.3  9.5 (59)

GOALS:
Collingwood: Blair 2 Mayne  White  Daicos  Kirby
Northern Blues: Palmer  Pickett  Gallucci  Gorringe  Russell  Cuningham  McKay  Korcheck  Kerr

BEST:
Collingwood: Blair Scharenberg White Tahana Aish Hinkley
Northern Blues: O'Shea Jones Cuningham Russell Boekhorst Jaksch

Good signs and a healthy win against a team that probably wanted to atone for yesterday's loss. Very good to see O'Shea have such a good game, not to mention the continued good form of Jones and Cuningham. Also good to see Boekhorst and Jaksch getting a mention.
Although not mentioned, 22 possessions from Palmer is his best effort for us to date.

Thank you, Lajmeister. I just watched the entire game. Some thoughts.

Attn: CFC Media Dept... watch this b'cast from Rottingwood. Impressed with the AV quality and surprisingly professional and only very moderately biased commentary. Ours looks so amateur hour in comparison.

Jones and O'Shea were standouts.

Cuningham was good in patches/such deft skills... did his usual vanishing act and failed to assert himself into the physical contests but added a couple of things to his highlight reel.
Boekhorst tried hard and imposed himself on the contest but disposal let him down at times but deserved being mentioned in better players.
Jaksch and Den Den solid but nothing to get excited about.

I actually thought there were some encouraging signs from Sumner, Buckley, Phillips, Pickett (better defensive stuff) and Galucci (ditto Pickett).

Low scoring game so really not that many highlights.

Why can't the Carlton website host a stream of all NBs games?

There are an untold number of IT / Communications and Media studies undergraduates looking for projects and placements as part of their degree or masters, Swinburne, RMIT, Melb and Monash are overflowing with them! All the club needs to do is invest is some suitable hardware and a decent chunk of bandwidth. I notice the previous Youtube of NB / Coburg had at +700 people trying to watch it when if frequently fell over above about +350 viewers.

A smart club would be marketing through it with banner and scrolling ads, overlays and wipes.

FFS, a smart club could even be developing it's own IP that it can license globally!

Come on CFC, we've improved in so many areas then let ourselves down badly with poor or no NBs coverage. Fancy being shown up by Rottingwood  :-[ :-[ So easy to create a leading edge coverage of the NBs games.

I'm not certain who he'll replace but if Jones doesn't get a senior game soon we aren't fair dinkum.

Kerridge or Smedts, neither of them did much on Saturday and he doesn't have to play as a permanent forward.
Smedts needs a run in the VFL to build some confidence but he looks like he can play a bit so I wouldn't write him off, Kerridge is only average.

Not really enough, conisdering that the ground wasn't in that bad a condition. Daicos was on the ABC loudly spruiking Victoria Park as having a great surface. Granted the weather was less than ideal, but it does suggest a very defensive mindset rather than poor conditions.
That our defence kept them to 3 goals for 3 quarters is a result worth being happy with.

That'd be a reasonable opening for Jones. Weits is struggling this year, so maybe a rest or even a run in the twos to get some confidence/touch back.

Kerridge and Graham don't play VFL and Cunningham is more involved. Are we depriving him of on-ball time in favour of other older and more limited players?

This is where the line between winning a meaningless VFL game and player development can be tricky to manage.

From what I've seen of Cuningham in the NBs, he doesn't lack opportunities but doesn't always make the most of the opportunities that are presented to him.

I'm not sure that VFL games are meaningless; developing a winning culture has to be embraced at all levels.

Totally agree with the latter.

But not so much the former, Cuningham has been given a couple of opportunities at senior level and has gone missing. The bottom line is that he should be creaming it at NBs level but looks like a good seconds player with flashes of pure class. For example I've not seen him show the desperation with body in the contest as Daisy did at this level, as does Palmer, Kerridge, Graham, Smedts and co. when playing at this level... even Boekhorst has improved his desperation in contests (pity about the disposal!)...

Is it just me or has gone backwards ...... ??

I know he's a baby in his 2nd year and will be a star but he's struggling at the moment..

Is it 2nd year ( pardon the pun ) Blues ??   Is he playing injured ??  Or is it the move into the forward line ??

Probably a combination of all 3 .... personally I think he should have stayed down back, the swing man thing isn't working.

Weitering is being played in a new role. His Best Game was against Sydney.

Someone suggested dropping Charlie Curnow for "development". Gee his last 2 games have been pretty good.

He is good enough to get a game and his game wont be doing anything in the VFL.

I gave him votes against Richmond and the Swans.... hasn't done much in the other games.

I'm expecting too much too soon.... with SPS and Charlie C showing signs I just want Weitering to explode and go to the next level now...... Yeah,  Ok we give him time to settle. :D

Is it just me or has gone backwards ...... ??

I know he's a baby in his 2nd year and will be a star but he's struggling at the moment..

The answer lives in your question, they all get it!
