Yep. Slow learners.

Rumours about weitering and whether or not he can get up with the ankle.
I said at the time to sub him out and be done with him and let him recover.
No, not us, not carlton. Play him, injure him more....then expect him to back up on a short week....and hope he doesn't get injured even more, because even if he does, it doesn't matter, you'll play him the following week anyway!

We've become a parady of ourselves....and its not funny.
From another thread>
I hope we don't play injured players. I've always been against, as the injured guys never reach their normal heights. I quite like it when the opposition do it, because I think it is something we can exploit. Unfortunately, we don't seen to exploit much these days. I still wouldn't play anyone suspect, especially as we need everyone at their best, not their worst.

Robert Heatley Stand / VFL Rd 14 2025 Carlton vs Port Melbourne
We play Port Melbourne on Saturday night at their crappy ground, under the lights. We're on TV and might have Pitto available.
I hope we have Will Hayes available, as he provides so much experience and drive.
I think Flynn Riley will play: no Young for a 2nd ruck. Lemmey will be the key forward, so I hope he does more than last week.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 16 2025 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Our line-up:

B:  1 Jack Silvagni  23 Jacob Weitering  26 Nick Haynes
HB:  42 Adam Saad  37 Jordan Boyd  15 Sam Docherty
C:  36 Cooper Lord  9 Patrick Cripps  13 Blake Acres
HF:  39 Alex Cincotta  8 Lachie Fogarty  11 Mitch McGovern
F: 33 Lewis Young  30 Charlie Curnow  6 Zac Williams
R: 12 Tom De Koning  5 Adam Cerra  4 Oliver Hollands
Int:  35 Billy Wilson  29 George Hewett  45 Flynn Young  3 Jesse Motlop  14 Orazio Fantasia

Em:  22 Harry O'Farrell  27 Marc Pittonet  19 Corey Durdin

Interesting:
[1] Patrick Cripps - will he miss? If he was so sick to be isolated, he would be very unlikely in my mind. Who replaces him? That isn't clear at all. But I would be very surprised if he played the sort of game we need, as we need him at his best, He hasn't been there this year at all.
[2] Charlie Curnow - how fit is he? Charlie was awful last week, his body language hasn't been great all year, but last week was ... I don't want to think how bad it was. If he doesn't get goals before half time, he doesn't get any. And his kicking, which has been the difference more than once, has been very haphazard this year.
[3] Pitto was actually good early last week, but he always starts well and then drops away (well, in the last 18 months anyway). Having him out when they have a real ruck as a backup is questionable. But I can't see him coming in if Cripps or Curnow doesn't get up.
[4] Tom de Koning -  has he already gone? You couldn't say he hadn't last week. Sweet usually plays well against Tom. Last year Sweet rising was the difference at Marvel.
[5] Small forwards - are they going to have an impact? Last week Motlop was good when he came on; ten possessions in the last quarter. But he rarely performs 2 weeks in a row. Fog? His form has been ordinary of late. Durdin - deserved to be dropped. The great form he displayed in the month or so after his return was brilliant, but he hasn't had a kick in weeks. Should he come in for Cripps? I wouldn't do it. Fantasia - looked OK in patches and seemed to give a damn last week, but he rarely does 2 in a row either.
[6] Weitering - is he fit? Supposedly, he's pulled up well after last week, but he has ben struggling with niggles for ages. Do we play him on Georgiades, who is playing well and leading brilliantly? Georgiades might be too quick for Jack, who'll probably play on Visentini.
[7] Cincotta - last week was very ordinary. Do we play him on Butters or Rozee? I guess we have to, as he is the only tagger we've got. Last year he was a great success, but his form this year hasn't been much.
[8] Doc - last week he got a lot of the ball and wasn't a bad player, but his limitations were certainly obvious. Port do have speed in the forward line. I am happy to see Billy Wilson get a go: he does have some pace. But, where does that leave Doc?
[9] Port have a tall defence; he have to think and move the ball in intelligently, not just bomb it away, or we'll just turn the ball over. I am not thinking much of Young as a forward. Keep Port's talls accountable and we should kick a decent score. Last year, with Charlie moving well and us kicking it to him intelligently, he murdered the Port defence. When we lost control of the centre and started bombing it in long, the Port tall defenders killed us.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Iran, I ran so far away - flock of seagulls
I do wonder about the thoughts that went through Trump's head (assuming there were some).
[1] smarter men with better understandings of world politics have faced similar situations (and more reason or need) and decided NOT to get directly involved. Yet, Donald goes in first first.
[2] Trump's election promise was not to get into another 'Forever War'.
[3] It would be nice to see the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran (which is neither particularly Islamic nor a republic), but what happens if the government does fall? I don't see whoever rises from the rubble being a better world citizen that the present bunch. Old maxim: when a regime is replaced by force, the successor state is usually very similar to one it replaces, even if their stated ideology is totally different. Example: Czarist Russia & the Soyuz Sovietsky Socialisti Replubliki.

Ladies Lounge / Re: Tilly Lucas-Rodd
Tilly has certainly opened a can of worms. I don't see it being un-opened either. Those people who do not easily fit into the main categories will ALWAYS create conundrums that will have consequences, many of them unintended.
At the moment the AFLW is 'inclusive' in a way that the AFL could not: trans-gender players would not be able to cope with the physical demands of the AFL, no matter how 'inclusive' the AFL tried to be.
As we saw with Rhonda Rowsey, the AFLW could not cope with someone who they consider having a physical 'advantage'. While people like Tilly don't appear to have such an 'advantage', there won't be any issue. If that changes, then all bets are off.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2025 Rd 13 Carlton vs North Melbourne
Carlton: 10 - 13 - 73
North 11 - 8 - 74
That says it all. Our disposal in the forward line is simply not good enough. Too many missed shots. Too many missed kicks. Not enough easy goals; in fact, we rarely get an easy goal.

[1] Archie Stevens - well done! Hasn't been in every week with more listed players available.
26 possessions, the best on the ground, 3 tackles, 5 clearances.

[2] Ashton Moir: Not there yet, but improving. As a mid, he has 4 clearances in the first quarter. That is more than seniors managed! He doesn't have the tank yet, but there is something there. He should have iced the game, but ...
17 possessions, 5 marks, 5 clearances and 1 excellent tackle.

[3] We missed Will Hayes again. Hopefully, he will be available for our next game, Saturday night. He provides leadership for a team that is ridiculously young.
We had 3 of the top 9 possession getters.

[4] Will White: gee, he has dropped off recently! He struggled to get 9 possessions and 1 goal 1. He definitely needs s couple more weeks in the 2's.

[5] I would like to play Cowan against Port, but he is still a long way off his best. He had 18 disposals, but when he's hot, he can get a lot more than that.
On the other hand, Billy Wilson did himself no harm at all. 24 possessions, 8 marks.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 16 2025 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Port are flakey, have injuries and are struggling with the Kenny vs Carr coaching fiasco, I think we are good chance if we pick the right team and Ports injuries dont come up ok and players like the Hornet, Wines, Alir etc are still missing.
If it was at Marvel or the MCG I would be very confident but being a home game for Port makes it a bit more difficult because we have a horrible interstate record, still Im backing us to rebound and while finals are probably off the table there will be few players needing to impress. Id be adding some younger players and doing a better job with our matchups too, Cincotta has to play on Butters or Rozee.....was wasted on Caleb Daniel who got plenty of the ball but isnt a Nth prime mover or major threat imo and its these odd moves that can feck up your team when things are tough.
Indeed. We need to stop either Butters or Rozee and Cincotta should have the job.
One of our tactical errors was not playing through Cincotta, as Caleb Daniel is loose. Make him man up and they lose their drive from defence.
Cincotta is a better player when he is shadowing a guy who can play mid.

Our forward line: I would be playing through Aliir's opponent as much as possible, assuming we can hit a target. Aliir zones off well, but is loose, especially to a leading forward.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 15 2025 Post-Game Prognostications Carlton vs North Melbourne
Ratten will always be popular among the Carlton faithful - nice bloke, club champion, significant personal tragedy. But his records at both Carlton and St Kilda are virtually identical. I get that fans will always go in to bat for him, but taking the data on its own terms, it suggests an OK, mid table, nibbling-at-finals coach, and nothing more.
I'm not surprised with Ratt's lack of success as a coach.
He reacts very slowly when things don't go as they should. His basic planning is good, but when things change, he doesn't until it is too late. And when it happened, the players didn't believe in the moves far too often.
Voss is similar. His basic planning is not that bad, but when it doesn't work, he's not in his element. Guys don't tend to come back with Voss in charge.

What made Barassi such a winner was that he did role with the punches. If things didn't work out, he would change things and the players KNEW it was a step forward. They often lifted.
Parkin was similar, if not to the extent of Barassi. Sheedy did it better, (damn it). Players believed in his moves.

Collingwood are successful at the moment because they have a superior game plan and a level of self-belief that our guys lack. We have neither.

Lost to Sandringham and Geelong, who we beat easily last time. Not many details: seems to have been forgotten. :(

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 15 2025 Post-Game Prognostications Carlton vs North Melbourne
I haven't commented about this game since it finished; I don't want to regret anything I write more than I have to. I missed the game due to my rib and haven't seen a second of it yet. However, I find it difficult to understand that we can play so meekly against a team we exterminated not many weeks ago. It is a 15 goal turnaround.

Forget sacking the coach on Monday; that sort of overreaction didn't help in the last few years and wouldn't help today.
Forget trading out good players for peanuts; that isn't going to help us in the short term either.
We play another game on Thursday night against another team that is struggling. If we don't show up ...

The thing to do is to learn from our losses. We need to work out who is going to be part of the future and who isn't. We need to work out which coach is doing what we need and which isn't. We need to determine which of the off-field issues is holding us back. We need to reassess our fitness regime. We have 9 matches to do this, as we are not going to play finals.

If there is any issue among the players, we need to find it and address it, so humiliations like this do not happen again.

This draft is looking as ordinary as it was expected to be last year. Yes, we need a couple of decent selections to get guys like Harry Dean and Jack Ison, but I wouldn't b e trading out too much to get those picks. Then we look to the next draft and Cody Walker. That draft cohort is looking stronger at the moment, although it is a fair way from being a fait accompli. Then we need to get our injured players right, so that when the next pre-season starts, they are ready to make an impact.

The time for crying over spilt milk is over; it happened, we can't do anything about that now. Now we prepare for the future and we get it right! 30 years is too long.
