Looking forward to tomorrow night's game. Who knows, it might be the beginning of a new dawn - how's that for optimism! Better than sinking into a pointless pit of despair over 36 blokes kicking a bag of air around a paddock... Reductionism to the rescue!
I do not think it is a fait accompli. Maybe all the errors of the past, which culminated in the current unmitigated disaster, have finally been confronted with authenticity, cold objectivity and courage, and the players will take the field emboldened. (What was the big Supertramp hit from 1975? Maybe that's me at this moment).
I think there is a difference how you speak to senior players, when and where you do it and how you speak to younger players. If Binns wasnt following orders I would have dragged and spoken to him on the phone in private explaining why and what was expected and then later on when I did my video reviews pointing out his errors.
Binns himself said he and vossy are fine. They have had conversations after the fact and talked through everything involved. The supporters are the ones up in arms about this, not the people involved. Binns is a grown man, as is vossy.
Hell, I copped a few sprays in my under-age years and I wasn't the only ones on the receiving end. Sometimes you need to hear it.
Why is this such a thing with binns?
Sounds good and reasonable in theory, K... However... I think you've left out one important ingredient - Our PR/media/marketing dept.
Interesting that Binnsy was given to the media for interview. Prepared script? Likely.
I remain highly skeptical that the typical discourse(s) conducted by supporters bears much resemblance at all to the discourse conducted by football people within the four walls. If one measures this "losing the players" by on field performance, then I guess our fluctuations under Voss are like a case of lost and found ? First half 23, lost. Second half 23, found. First half 24, found, etc.
Sorry but I don't buy it. I should make it clear that my ire is not directed at you.
I suspect it's more likely there are factions between players than a specific issue with the coach.
If there are factions in our group they are enabled and driven by the culture at the club, these things do not form bottom up without some failure of governance.
And governance of the playing group lies with the football manager and senior coach. Again we land at inadequate leadership.
Good leadership spots 'groups within groups/factions' very early and nips it in the bud, then asks themselves the vital question, "How did this eventuate?" "What have I failed to create that allowed such divisions to eventuate?"
I wasnt a fan of that conversation in front of the other players who were equally poor and would have preferred it was away from the cameras where people couldnt lip read. Our leaders needed spraying last game and told to play their fecking role as much as Binns imho.
Who is to say it didn't, but only 1 was caught on camera. This week him talking with the leaders was caught on camera. Where is the same criticising of that?
Vossy's address to the senior players against Rottingwood, was just that. Binns copped a pointed spray the week before. Very different.
EB1 is 100% correct re it being the leaders who should have copped a spray the week before, not the kid - easy target. Not a good look.
Last Friday he singled out the leaders. Good. His 'talk' with the leaders was needed. Bottom line is though, he shouldn't need to do it. If our on-field leaders are really leaders, they should know what to do and say... and enforce it, loudly, on field. Maybe they're just too nice and don't want to hurt anyone's feelings!
I guess it's natural (I do it!) to look only at the senior listed players in the Magoos and how they're doing, with in mind who to elevate to the seniors.
However, what is very apparent with our Magoos side is a unity. They seem to love their footy, whether VFL or AFL listed. And they don't surrender or drop their heads. Cudos to Luke P and his team.
Luke's job is real hard, he has little continuity of selection, every week he is hobbling together a group, and they all seem to buy in.
Reading Luke's comments post game it is very apparent that he reads the game well and doesn't hesitate to swing changes, which mostly seem to work. Reading between the lines, there seems to be an egalitarianism in his leadership style; he doesn't favour anyone in his comments. Any wonder there is a positive spirit with the boys.
His lads have a huge assignment this week, Brisvegas, who are 4 rungs above his boys on the Magoos ladder.
The VFL game was 100x more enjoyable to watch than the AFL game!
There was camaraderie and desire - watching the campo boys, saw some leadership already.
Binns after the game was asked re Vossys spray and he said Voss has been very good for him and they had the conversation necessary etc - seemed sincere.
The camaraderie is 100% missing in the snr side
Really glad to read, M, that Binnsy communicated all-good with Vossy.

Fair effort considering our seniors get games.... :p
In all honesty I'm more interested in breeding a system based winning culture at this level.
What impressed me most was that the game wasnt going their way, they corrected their bad play and they fought tooth and nail for eek out a win. Hope the goats who played on Friday night were watching.
Yep.
What I found fascinating, and depressing, was the difference in 'spirit' between the Magoos and seniors. Poles apart.
It's interesting watching and reading comments from passionate Bluebaggers that, apart from a few vitriolic folks, most seem to have this resignation and bitter disappointment with how season 2025 has turned out, thus far. Plus the likelihood that the coming 7 weeks will only deliver more disappointment, with the exception of getting to at least expose some kids to senior footy.
Hope burns eternal with many supporters now turning their attention to 2026. Pretty sad.
Yes it does matter, a lot. Because he keeps picking them to play, and I am referring to senior players. As Professor noted, it's our senior blokes who are setting poor examples - poor leadership = demoralising.
Cmon mate, we made 6 changes this week. How many more can we make? You can only pick the soldiers that are fit and if we dropped everyone you and others wanted, we'd have to forfeit because we wouldn't have enough left to fill a side.
That can't fall on Voss.
You're being a bit extremist and emotional there.
It's not about the number of the changes but the quality of the changes.

Time to not making excuses, K. Yes, it can fall on Voss/coaching/MC & development. The kids are putting in, the senior players are sh1tting themselves. Except for Haynes.
It doesn't matter how good of a coach Voss is. Our (in)ability to find a teammate by hand and foot means that every game plan will fall over.
