Stats can be so tricky. Looking at those you'd think that Palmer was dominant and yes, he got his hands on the aggott alot and was one of our better players but, like Buckley, if you look at effectiveness those two didn't hurt the opposition enough with their disposal whereas Jones, Smedts, Sheehan, Polson and White were all highly effective because their disposals were in a high % for effectiveness. Likewise Den Den with 2 goals, turned it over too much... how he got to be an emergency for the seniors on recent form is baffling. Many in front of him.
Polson showed us some glimpses with the terrific weaving through traffic... a couple of times were real gems.
The big picture is that the NBs have knocked off, impressively, the 4th placed side and did it coming from behind in fine, ruthless style. Great team effort... must also mention the terrific contribution from the Preston boys Wilson, OShea and Russell.
What about as a trade Baggers. Any value there? Swap him for a forward...No doubt other clubs would be monitoring his VFL performances. The inability to break into the Carlton backline at present shouldn't count against him because it compares quite favourably to other clubs.
You wouldn't accept anything less than a good 2nd rounder for him and yes he sure has 1. Resurrected his AFL career and 2. Improved his trade value immeasurably.
Can only add a little to what RR said re Jones. He was simply impassable. Hopefully the limping off late in the game is not too serious. Based on what I've seen from Jones this year we'd be crazy to delist him. If Rowe, Marchbank, Plowman, Willo or Weitering go down this bloke is ready... in fact with his closing speed and excellent reading of the play he's pressing too hard to resist. He's a defender. If we delist him another AFL club will swoop and he'll end up being a key defender and doing well some place else. The bloke could play on a quick 193 cm forward or a 200 cm key forward.
NBs 9 pts up at 3/4 time. 2 goals to 6 behinds that qtr. Jones, White and Sheehan great in defense. Buckley too many errors. Polson v good that qtr. Sumner smart. Billie Smedts v good. Gallucci good. Den Den good but too many errors. Palmer okay but average disposal...
Sandy 20 pts up at qtr tine. Phillips good. Den Den furious at team mates at qtr time. Sandy on and hard. This will be interesting to see how we fight back after starting so badly.
So much for selecting on form alone! Jones & Boekhorst have both been well ahead of Cuningham on form. Gee I hope Cuningham can do something at senior level that he hasn't been able to do in the seconds - be consistent and assert himself physically in the contest. Stranger things have happened.
Can anybody provide any evidence at all that Williamson missed a target this year by foot? I cannot remember him missing one. This kid is the steal of last years draft. Love him .
Was only discussing this with a few mates this week. What a ripper. And, nuh, can't think of an ill-directed kick from this kid.
I read it as are worried about the frockers' outside run... Walters, Hill x 2 etc.
No match up for White.
Wouldn't be surprised if we play Jones to back up K in the bounces and give Cripps et al. a hand around the contests. Mundy, Fyfe, Sandilands... that's a lot of weight and strength around ground zero.
Good points. You'd think that we're bringing in quick blokes to run with the Hills and Walters etc.

With the game being late on Sunday, all 3 emergencies will travel to Perth. That will be, and should be, seen for what it is: a reward for effort for some of these guys. I don't think Dennis will play, but any of the others could. I guess we'll find out on Saturday morning. But I really expect all 3 emergencies to miss the VFL.

Not sure Josh Fraser would be happy losing a couple of guys as backups to the backup, especially against a strong outfit like Sandy. I know the seniors must come first but Fraser really is building a ripper culture at the NBs and should be supported where practical.
