Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 16 : Blues Smack Saints (Aftermatch Review)
I don't get the negativity about last night's win. It was a good, solid win... one we had to and should have won. They threw everything at us and we had the answers. The twin talls up forward were both terrific. And when Eddie came on he showed some of his old dash.

Another big test is against a mob who like to beat us up... the Kangabies. Huge game.

Turns out we have nothing to worry about. Sticks announced yesterday that our list is very good and that we have all the right people in place. So, all is good at CFC land, phew...

Love the way Roosy thinks. Hard to argue with anything he wrote (that GOAT posted above).

And although Lyon is not in the same category as Roosy I still believe his comments re our 1st rounders deserves objective examination.

We do seem to not be as fit as other sides when the heat is on for the entire game, or, put another way, playing a top side.

We are too nice but when some of our blokes attempt to be tough, they do something dumb and get reported.

When top clubs lose a key player it doesn't seem to weaken them all that much... we lose someone important in a game and go to pieces.

Really seems that a good number of our supposed A graders just don't take the next step. When the chips are down it is still Juddy who attempts to pull us over the line... is there no other on-field leader at our club who can lift and inspire (in fact, the entire list should feel empowered enough to lead on the field!!!!!)?

With the exception of Casboult, our other ruckmen must be amongst the nicest in the competition.

IMHO, it comes down to on-field culture (or lack thereof) and too much ($$$$) comfort behind the scenes, ie Assistant coaches not knowledgeable enough; not hungry enough; not communicating well enough and so on. Development staff... see Assistant coaches.

I do not believe we need a rebuild and to start from scratch etc. But we do need a vigorous, wire-headed broom to sweep through the place... on and off the field. Mostly off. I reckon some very strong trading at year's end to get in some hard it types; extroverted, could help some of the A graders take the next step... along with 2 tall forwards who can actually lead hard and catch the damn thing!!

People have short memories. Malthouse has conned everyone - two weeks ago Walker was AA now we have no one. Murphy is an A grader, he's had injury issues but he'll come good. As Kreuzer said himself, the start of his career was excellent, he's struggling to deal with knees and hips. Waite kicked 7 goals less than a month ago. Carrots is the best one on one mid in the game but again injury worries. Opposition teams have stated they put lots of time thinking about how to stop Yarran.

screw me, we went from a team missing a key forward and a poor bottom six to nothing decent in no time.

So what are your thoughts on our development & recruiting? :)

This articcle in today's Age does give good comments in relation to our on-field plight in many ways... and wholeheartedly supports Ye Sheikness in declaring in one of his summaries that we have no A graders ...yet we should have loads.

Before we venture to the draft again, we really need to examine our development and recruiting and address why our 1st rounders aren't delivering on potential and our propensity to recruit nuffs.

(Yes, I realise on the old website we covered a lot of this and there are have been threads dealing with this huge issue, but maybe now lets really hone in and focus on this... as is the media)

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 16 : Carlton v St Kilda (Pre-game Chatter)
From match reports i've read it's not so much how much Graham is doing but how he's doing it.

Descriptions seem to include, neat, skilful, good awareness, knows how to find it and use it.

Tom Bells seem to include, got plenty of it, good attack on the ball but butchered it a bit.

Graham thinks like a footballer; looks right at home with the aggot in his hands and is a ball magnet. Thank you, Nick Stevens, for putting this bloke under the nose of recruiting... they probably wouldn't have noticed him without your efforts ::)

This is the perfect game for us at this stage... followed by the Kangabies. I am really looking forward to Saturday night and how we respond, over 4 quarters. A loss and it would be time to get games into the young ones. A win and there's a pulse and a sniff.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 'Cue In The Rack' or 'Soldier On'
There's no way I want to see us even consider giving up on this season, no matter how many games we lose or how unlikely it is that we'll play finals.

It simply sends the wrong message to the players and instills a losing mentality. Given we already have so many mental frailties to contend with, the last thing I want to see is us creating more of our own.

We need to be trying to win every game we can regardless of ladder position and we need to finish where we finish in order to get an accurate reflection of where the list is at. If we lose all of those games we'll probably finish about 15th but at least we'll know that we're a bottom four side and rebuild accordingly. If we somehow win all of them, we'll play finals and we'll know that we're not all that far away.

That's the only way we answer the question of whether we need wholesale changes to the list or just some more positional tweaking.

You can't answer that by artificially creating a false environment.

True comment that. Every game should be treated as winnable. No tanking.
There are many candidates who played well below their "potential" last week. I suggest it is not just fair but the Coaches and MC's responsibility to drop any under performing players, including the "specials" and let a hungry kid play who will throw his heart and soul into the next game. And yes, I am saying drop players like Gibbs. 150+ games and saunters around the pitch like an aristocrat. if only he showed a fraction of the endeavour and heart of Judd. F$ucking unbelievable waste of talent. I say drop him and scare the crape out of him.

EXACTAMONDO. Regardless of ladder position we MUST set out, in every game from now until year's end (just in relation to this year), give our very best in every way. We must develop a mongrel determination to ruthlessly deliver what the coaches demand... anything short of this commitment from everyone should be viewed as totally and absolutely inadequate and the perpetrator(s) shown the door with great swiftness. (interesting that the word 'perpetrator' has the word 'trator' in it).
