Good to see some of the younger brigade are becoming consistent contributors.  It is often said that a Premiership is not based on the top 6 in your side, but the bottom 6..... hopefully, that weakness in our 22 is diminishing

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 1 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Richmond
100% honest, I was very worried going into this game.  Between the inevitable let-down after last week's big win and Doc's knee, combined with a Richmond outfit who were always going to be fired up, there was a real chance we would turn up half-baked and get rolled.

Fortunately, we were 3/4 baked and did enough to win.  Had two chances (start of the second and start of the last) where we could have put the game to bed - if we had established a 20+ lead at any stage, I think the Tiges would have faded - but we stuffed up enough to keep them interested.

This is one of those 'ugly' wins that you need to have - still get the four points, but also (hopefully) learn several lessons.

Kudos to our tackling, it has improved out of sight (although Lewis Y needs to do some significant remedial work).

Best sight for the night - TDK has finally realised he can jump higher than the gorillas and is faster around the ground.  I think his season will only get better.  And Harry's 'ball on the ground, 10 steps, kick' routine is clearly a keeper.

Pinot....I thought Ollie Hollands was one of our best across the two practice games. Yep, he was pretty quiet against the Lions but I'd be backing him in.
Ollie looked like a boy among men out there this week, got rag-dolled on several occasions, or easily bumped out of contests.  He needs to use his greatest asset, run and carry, to greater effect.

Team : B (will get an A when I see 4 quarters of A grade stuff)

Cripps 2
Curnow 2
McKay 2
TDK 2
Hewitt 2
Saad 1
Boyd 1
McGovern 1
Acres 1
Cunningham 1

The most pleasing aspect of pondering these votes is how evenly the team spread the load.  Everyone had a part to play.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2024 Practice Match Carlton vs Melbourne
Don't forget, after the way they finished last season, and the very forgettable summer they have had, Melbourne had a bit to prove tonight.  When you're trying to show your members all is well so they'll sign up again, I am sure you go a bit harder.

It was clear they played with a much higher intensity than us, but I don't think that's a true reflection of where both sides are at.  A few of our players were in second gear (maybe 38 degrees was the main reason).

Having said that, I think our chances of rolling Brisbane next week are pretty limited.  If we can win 2 of our first three, I will be more than happy.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The forward line 2024 - who plays and how is it structured?
I have a feeling we are going to need to find a fwd-mid role for Elijah Hollands - and Motlop and Owies will have Cory Durdin and Orazio breathing down their necks.

The forward structure is the key to going the next step - in the last part of the 2023 season, our scoring dried up a bit .  We need to consistently kick 13+ goals a game to make sure we win the lion's share of games.

How is he scarier than the other republican candidates?
You only need to listen to his proclamations to realise he is a narcissistic liar who believes he is above all accountability.  If he is in the Oval Office again, he will make sure that things are done his way this time, and any political/business/legal opponents will find their proverbial heads on stakes and on display in Times Square.

Sadly, no-one in the GOP will have the guts to stop him.  His team will be a bunch of subservient sycophants who will be more than happy to compromise their ideals to stay in Donald's good books.

We can laugh at it, but the following is an example of how dangerous politics can be once the public is incited.

Apparently in the recent Iowa nominations Trump lost in one region and he's taken offence at it with quiet rumours of retribution to the voters of that region, and in the interim Trump's supporters are already claiming the result against him in that region was due to election tampering.

So if that's how they behave in a trivial pre-selection, bullying voters, what's going to happen in the real deal?

I've personally very little interest in either Democrat or Republican, but I've just watched a great series on the World War II from the Frontlines and the types of fanaticism back then draw an uncomfortable parallel to the current global political climate abroad and at home.
Donald is getting scarier with each 'victory' - I reckon they need to make sure he gets an orange jumpsuit to match his complexion.......

Don't mention the war(assassination).

Today, if you ever needed to know why the Orang and his team are dangerous, it should now be beyond doubt, this is basically the same style of vitriol that lead to the capitol riots in the first place.

In my opinion it's unequivocal proof this guy is prepared to burn down the house to get his way, they should rename him Nero!

Why the feck would anyone want to go into politics with this bloke stoking the fires, the extreme left and extreme right will meet in the chaotic middle and nobody will be safe!
Agree completely - the GOP have a lot to answer for, standing idly by while this guy trashes democracy.   And if he does win, heaven help those on the other side of the fence......

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Carlton 2024 Predictions / Expectations
One thing for sure, this team can enter the 2024 season KNOWING that they are good enough.  Prior to this, the hype at the start of every year was more about hope than belief.

Confidence and belief is what takes a talented team from middle-of-the-pack to top-of-the-tree.
