After we roll Norf tonight the saloon scene from "Unforgiven" springs to mind...

..."whos the owner of this establishment?"....

I think the scene is called "Gunfight at Greeney's crap hole" if you want to check it out".

Norf are treacle-like in defence but we haven't picked a side to exploit it.  Theya re not a great kicking side under pressure either.  So let's apply some!

Petrie marked well against Lake but other than that I thought it was close to Lake's worse game in many years... he lost concentration for periods of the game and let Petrie get position on him - something he rarely lets happen.

Rowe will go ok.  I'm more concerned about Goldstein and their inside mids.

Everybody nearly gets run over in Paris...and Roma,  but they stopped for the missus in Roma...

Petrie won't be a factor...  Rowe will be impassable at CHB, standing like a beacon in a storm.....  clunking one grabbers while the packs collapse around him, keeping his feet and dishing off by hand to Touhy, Simmo and Yazz who zip it straight down the guts to Menzel and Henderson who get lacksadaisical after 3 quarter time as we're so far up....

Sorry, the only French I know is not fit to print so I went with that.   If it makes you feel better, I rate Florence or Rome over Paris but they are all great places to spend time in.

Bruce Doulls first 10 games were average.

SOS' first two season included some deadest floggings but you could see that he was going to be good... real good.

Kouta took  a long time to get established... because they didn't know what to do with him.

I'll play.

In an ideal world I hope we play a heap of kids who contribute well, and fight it right out to the finish    line, but it won't happen like that.  We won't win, and you guys know we won't, which is a shame because if we were serious we could roll this mob.

Although I decided to cut back on my AFL content this year I have had the misfortune through chance to see a bit of a club  I despise in the kangas.  Those of us who sat through the 24 goal loss back in the days will understand.

Expect rotten treatment from officialdom this week, its a given for every Friday night game we have against this mob.  It's normally worth about 4 goals.

There are two North Melbournes... a lazy, slow, skill deficient, one way running side that uses the ball worse than we do, and another version that rips you to pieces through the middle.

If the first side fronts up we will be more than competitive.  If the second fronts up we will lose by 20 goals.

Frankly I don't see a lot of difference between North and us... we both have patchy work rates and can be scintillating or awful within short periods.  They also have a lot of slow players but unlike us they seem to get away with them.

There are a number of players that constantly give us trouble and I don't understand why.

1.  Petrie is one.  In the past I have watched tall backs, including Henderson, take this bloke to the cleaners.  One was Henderson and he flogged him with his mobility... yet I have seen Petrie kick bags on Henderson...   I reckon Rowe can match this bloke in the air but when it hits the ground will be a concern.
2.  Boomer Harvey is still a critical component to that mob winning games. Wake up Mick.   He is fast, rat cunning, sly and suckers cheap frees. I think he leads the AFL in score assists?   He needs to be watched like a hawk by somebody who is prepared to sit on him and run with him all day.  He also gets frustrated with close attention and can get a bit err, distracted.  I would be tempted to sit maybe Robinson on him in a defensive role, yet tell him to run forward an attempt to hurt the other way at any opportunity.  It is critical to shut this bloke down.
3.  Lindsay Thomas.  I have no idea who we have to sit on this bloke but they need to play him close and smart and be aware of what this guy does.  If he gets of the chain it will get ugly.

I'll be watching you Mick and await with interest what strategies you will put in place against this mob.  I know we are light on for personnel but how's about something innovative for once?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Carlton vs Sydney: Post match Pain
Many would play decent footy at the better clubs because they have better support around them (on and off field) and would be fitter.  Laidler is proof of that.  Other clubs would play them in more suitable roles and positions.

Leaving aside the straight out spuds, I think it is a misnomer to say that much of our list "wouldn't get a game at club X"... maybe not in current form but I reckon many would.  For example; Garlett, going at 40 goals a year would, right now, no.

The question going through my mind is WHY ARE THESE BLOKES NOT PLAYING TO THEIR POTENTIAL because many clearly can play?  Why do blokes have to leave to play to their potential elsewhere???   Why are there deficiencies not being addressed???

Carrots, what you and I think of Graham is irrelevant, but what you are correct in is that he has no opportunity as the sub to impact the game.  He is not an impact player.  Blokes like Bell are better subs as Graham is more an accumulator.  Even a half fit Buckley would be a handy sub with his pace.  Maybe Garlett to add some zip.

But we keep picking sloooooooooooooooow guys and hope they'll become the next Ian Stewart.

The kid should be given game time to see if he is good enough.  Mick has no idea how to use the sub rule to any kind of advantage.  Watch who the other sides play as subs - pacy runners seem to be the norm, not one paced plodders.
