Not unexpected when the AFL let clubs like the filth poach our gun players and gave us NOTHING in return.   Thanks AFL
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

We've been on the decline since about yr 3. Anyone who's any good leaves, including 2 captains. Not sure what's happened but the recruits this year at least, look totally out of their depth.

I was looking through an article about leadership groups this year. A few teams haven't announced theirs yet (Inc. Pies, dons and us) it made for some depressing reading.

- Tilly lucas-rodd is hawks inaugural captain.
- Sarah Hosking is vice captain at the tigers
- Kate shierlaw and Bianca Jacobson are vice captains at the saints, with Nic Stevens the 4th member of the leadership group. Rhi watt was co-captain at one point, but she left.

 - Pies had co captains last year with Bri Davey (and former csc girl herself, Steph chiocci)
- bombers look to at least have prespakis in the leadership group as she is the face of the club from a marketing perspective thus far. Probably captain. Potentially Gee in the leadership group as well.

All former Carlton girls.
Ouch.

As much as our men have an injury problem, our women have a recruitment/ retention problem.

From early signs we look destined for a top draft pick. It's going to be painful to watch at times.

Hawthorn would have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel; Tilly couldn't command a regular game with us, let alone a leadership role.

I'm not sure whether other teams having former Carlton players in their leadership groups is a bad thing, particularly when many of those players clearly weren't natural leaders when they were at our club.
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

She wasn't too bad, would be quite useful to us in the absence of Gee.

It might be that the Dawks see giving Tilly the Captaincy puts them in the frame to snag Davey, as we have mentioned before many times, and as Carlton fans know after the Prespakis / Geee debacle, AFLW list management works very differently from the men!

Gee vs Lucas-Rodd are on opposite ends of the midfield spectrum.

Gee is Eddie Betts - Lucas Rodd is Ed Curnow.
Gee can run run run, do the impossible.
Lucas-Rodd will put her head over the ball and give it her all at every contest, but don't expect her to chase anyone down or kick long and accurately.
Both have their place, but not the same type of player.

FWIW, Lucas-Rodd was in the leadership group at the saints too and may have been one of the captains (They had 4 at once at one stage) She has leadership qualities.....just sooked it up when she was with us because of how we treated Davey (and vice versa).

I never claimed they were the same, just mentioned she would be useful in the midfield in Gee's absence.

The midfield is a continuum of players, you slot one in here or there and the others get the opportunity to reorganised.

At the moment we've got players with more than useful outside skills being sucked/trapped on the inside of the contest.

Why say Gee though?
Prespakis leaves a bigger hole and they are actually more similar players.
Gee was only a bit-part player in the midfield, more winger/half forward
Prespakis was pure mid.
The fact you said Gee instead of Prespakis implies they are similar.

Not really, having a Tilly inside will set someone like McKay, Hill, Guerin or Sherar free on the outside, it's a fixable problem.

Prepsakis is in a different class, those players are wasted inside because they aren't genuine replacements for Prespakis, but they can be an outside replacement for Gee. Hill and Sherar in particular.

It's all hypothetical, because we've lost those players and we do not have them, spilt milk.

Gees strength were her smarts, speed and skill.
Nobody else on our list can replicate that. Regardless of if they are inside or outside and have rockets strapped to their back.

Personally, I think Hill is a class above Gee, Sherar will give us closer to what Gee offered just without the experience yet.

Again, different players.

Put it this way.
If Hill is running towards goal 20m out and someone comes to tackle her, she'll probably run straight into them, Cripps style.
If it was Gee, she'd do a 360 pirouette around them without a hand being laid on her ala Fisher or Durdin and dribble it through.
Sherar has shown SFA so far, but fingers crossed.
Lucas-Rodd would run right into them too....but be tackled.
