Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 1 2023 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Richmond
This is a bit like the injury debate.
I mentioned it doesn't concern me anymore that the club is vague with injury information.
The vagueness isn't meant to trick or decieve an opposition club.
It's worth is to create uncertainty and have the opposition thinking multiple scenarios and planning for "what Ifs"
We've moved well past the shock of seeing a supposedly injured player lining up.
Clubs plan for a range of situations.

So Ed plays despite a long lay off and indifferent pre-season form.
Over at Richmond they're thinking 'why is he playing' and what will be his role.
Small forward, tagging mid fielder, small defender.
Ed's been around for long enough that he knows he doesn't have to bust a gut pre-season.
The young un's like Holland and Cowan need this time to show they're ready.
Ed doesn't.

On Ch 7, Ross Lyon gloated that they signed up Camonetti from Carlton’s VFL after JSOS told SOS that he did really well playing on Weitering. Flog.

Yep he's a flog, but he's probably thinking ....it's a good way to cause a bit of friction in an opposition club.
Jack won't be happy, he'll probably get some 'advice' from management.
Not sure his dad will be happy with him being thrown under the bus, so it may backfire on 'Ross the flog'

I couldn't care less about the info from the club, nor preseason form, which players have PBs lifting weights or running time trials.   I just want the 23 that run out on Thurs night to give me a "W" because Im going and I can't remember the last time I saw one. I didn't go to any wins last year as I was too gun-shy early in the year then all I saw live was losses (call me superstitious).
I hoping to break the curse I seem to have on this club this Thurs night.
Bounce the darken ball
Go Blues.

I'm not superstitious but ....don't go! :(  :))

I guess one of the problems with the 'after judgement' is always going to be this...

If measures taken prove effective in minimising the damage...the real potential for damage is never realised.

It could raise an interesting situation down the track.

I think it's probably a fair bet that there will be no new expansion teams in Victoria.
If anything there may be a reduction of Victorian sides.
There may possibly be expansion sides in other states.

We may have a situation where an AFL team (club) goes to the wall....yet the AFLW side is extremely successful.
Does the AFLW side fold as well?

The comp has become a joke.

The biggest problem with the AFL is too many Melbourne clubs yet we created a women's comp with the same teams.

That's actually a pretty good point.
It's going to create the same problems of relocation and retention that the mens competition experiences.

The problem is there probably needs to be that overall club structure to support the women's comp in these early years rather than esatablishing new entities.
Which teams would miss out.

There may have been lots of reasons for her leaving but don't quickly dismiss instability and uncertainty as one of them.

We're a bit like a sieve, leaking players each year.
We probably wouldn't be an attractive destination club, and perhaps not one where you're confident, as a player, about the future.

It's hard to be a supporter of that when the players themselves seem a bit mercenary.
