Title: Baby Blues vs. Frankston at Frankston on Sunday
Post by: crashlander on August 01, 2013, 09:30:04 pm
Frankston vs. Northern Blues
Sunday 4th August
Frankston Oval at 2:00PM

Frankston
B: Jennings J. Irving Dermott
HB: Clark Simpson J. Newman*
C: Cass Hockey Buchan
HF: Alwan Haretuku C. Irving
F: Lloyd Lourey Pongracic
R: Gabriel Kitchin Potts
Int: Bosward Matheson Purcell A. Forato Giobbi Edwards Delahunty Boland Miller

Northern Blues
B: Davies Coulson* Joseph
HB: O'Keeffe Bootsma Posar
C: Menzel Lambert A. Gianfagna
HF: Thomas F. Dale Temay
F: Buckley Casboult Wilson
R: Warnock T. Bell Graham
Int: Lincoln Marcon McDonald Visser Dirago Meese Mitchell Dorman Bransgrove

Duigan is missing: he got a 2 week suspension at the VFL tribunal during the week. I didn't see the incident, so I have no idea how justified it was. Maybe RR can shed some light on it?

Our team this weekend is quite small, especially as Bootsma is CHB and Dale is CHF. I don't know who is going to play on Haratuku yet: he beat Watson last time we played a few weeks ago.

Mitchell is named on the bench. I am not sure what that means, but he had only 1 possession last weekend, a handball.

If Haratuku does well again he may put himself into calculations again for a  rookie/senior spot.....only problem I have with him is he can look a bit laconic much like our own Watson....
Essendon dont mind drafting Frankston players with Goosey on the payroll and i reckon they are going to have to look to the VFL for some talent when they lose all their early picks... ;)

When we played them only a few weeks back we had a much taller, stronger defence. Very interesting to see how our defenders handle Haratuku and co this time around. However, our midfield is better.

No worries, mate. I just merged them. Much easier than it used to be, thank God!

Weather is not looking brilliant, but the game is becoming really important.

Dodgy looking KP 's in the backline...Lourey and Haratuku will be happy to see Bootsma and the unknown Coulson named in those positions.....I'd play Micthell down back and see if he can show something.

Be a few blokes who'd be up for senior selection after last night's (lack of) effort.

Goal to them on the siren.
Not a good start.

GOALS: Wilson
STATS: Gianfagna 10, Graham 8, Warnock 8, O'Keeffe 7

Not doing what we need to do, as we dominated possession for the last half of the quarter for no reward.

Today's loss at Frankston is a symptom of our clubs greater problems.

The better players most often listed in the VFL are not Carlton listed!

"All over at Frankston. The Blues kicked 8 goals to 2 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late. Frankston win by 13" from Matt Lodge. Sounds like the last quarter was worth the effort. The first 3 couldn't have been much good.

Some statistics:
Lambert 29, Marcon 23, Graham 23, Buckley 21, Gianfagna 21, O'Keeffe 21, Dale 20
As LP noted, it would have been much better of the better players were Carlton listed, but...
Nick Graham and Dylan Buckley can hold up their heads. O'Keefe can also feel pretty good, especially as it is only his 2nd game for the year.

Goal scorers: Buckley 2, Temay 2, Graham 2, Lambert 2, Wilson 2, Bell, Bransgrove, Mitchell

Frankston 16. 8. (104) defeated Northern Blues 13. 13. (91).
Bad kicking is bad football and we have ourselves to blame.

Colder than a politician's promise at Frangerland this arvo. Worst grandstand, in terms of visibility, in the known universe.

Franger won 16-8 to NBs 13-13.

We lost this game in the first half with what could only be described as woeful disposal and decision making... handed them goals, easy goals, silly goals.

We really didn't look likely until Buckley copped an elbow to the head which fired up the side. We should have won as we really did dominate the game in most respects just way too many terrible errors in the first half. Our tackling and pressure on the opponent from late in the 2nd qtr onward was really good... forced them into plenty of errors.

Buckley - in everything. Showed his class with some good run and great snap goal. The boy is quick and I amazed that his skinny legs can kick a footy so far!
Levi - presented well and clunked a few. Worked hard in the ruck but made some really dumb decisions in front of goal trying to snap across his body. Like most of his mates, got better as the game progressed.
Casper - busy and worked hard on the ball.
Boots - really good. If not for his defensive work it could have been very ugly. Wish he'd back his judgment at times and mark rather than spoil.
Graham - got caught a few times today as Franger seemed to really sit on him... still got lots of the aggot and seldom wasted a disposal.
Marcon, Gianfagna, Lambert, Bransgrove and Wilson - these Preston boys really did work hard and showed some of the CFC boys -- especially early -- how to work hard. Wilson almost single handedly kept us in the game early on.
ROK worked hard but hasn't got his touch back yet... just good to see him get another game under his belt. At least, especially early, his kicks to position hit a team mate on the chest.
Warnock - did some good things but failed to deliver what he should. Visser replaced him in the last quarter and did better!
Bell - reminds me a little of Robbo in terms of disposal... just blazes away at times and even when he intends to kick it to a team mate it can go anywhere. Still too rough around the edges for mine.
Mitchell - took a couple of marks but was generally a waste of space. Could see him working harder but just fails to impose himself on the contest and does not take marks he should. As RR has mentioned, he just fails to get off the ground when contesting for a mark. He got some good delivery but failed to capitalise.
Davies - solid in defence.
Temay - did some very good things later in the game ...starting to show what folks have talked about. His size worries me though, just too small.
Menzel - has that freakish edge and has a defensive game! Flashed in and out of the game but what he did had class (except for one horrible shot on goal).
Joseph - liked his game and along with Bootsma, was one of our much better defenders.

Duigan (susp) and Laidler did not play.

Good report Baggers

Had no idea we would lose when I decided not to go - just thought it would be a boring game and I felt like watching something more interesting - very disappointing

Good to see the two's playing exactly like the one's.

Well at least we've got some consistency.
