100% spot on Brettie... and one of the worst offenders is supposedly the best kick in the side, Mr. Bryce Gibbs.. his kicking under pressure is deadest awful.  Every munted kick he scrubs away under pressure ends up going back the other way at light speed...

Skills wise and brains wise, SPS, Weeters, Cripps and Plowman are streets ahead of the rest of our team, and that's not saying much.

Port are very happy to let us take uncontested marks around the square and on the wing - meanwhile, they flood back, wait for the inevitable turnover in our F50, then wait for the complete lack of defensive pressure, missed tackles etc, and waltz in for a goal.

And I'm not convinced that Bolts has that much match day nous.

We won't turn the corner properly whilst Murphy is captain. I actually think we should trade him. He is completely unwilling to tackle. His sore shoulder obviously impact his capacity there but you can't have a half dip as a captain. You have to be uncompromising.

He is not that.

He takes half steps to avoid getting into a position to tackle and only puts in a token effort when he is asked to tackle. You can potentially cover that but not from your captain.

We need to move on.

7 of the softest and one plucked straight from the ass to Port.
Absolute sitters missed by us. Should be about square, 9 behinds (2 rushed) is terrible.
We dont do the simple, 1%ers well at all. Just before that Dixon goal, at the other end, Pickett didnt go hard enough to spoil a mark. He jogged in and watched. Result? Ball cleared and goal at the other end.

For starters, I would instruct the team to play on much faster. Create as much forward momentum on the ball as possible.

We got blown away in the 1st 10 min of the game but have held our nerve since. Good on ya boys.
We need to lower our eyes going fwd. They say we are a quick team but havnt been able to show it yet.
C Ciurmow playing his best game yet.
Kids doing well.
Murph and Gibbs NOTOCIBLY do not work hard emough going the other way.

Id like to see Williamson play off hf. Good long accirate kick. Leave Charlie on the wing.

Weters back as is useless tonight as a fwd.

Worst team kicking I've ever seen in my 46 years on this planet.

We move it so slowly that we're kicking to a F50 more crowded than a freeway in peak hour. In the end we have to bomb. We need to move the ball on so much more quickly so we can open it up in our F50. Much easier to hit a target when a forward can run into space. Currently the way we play drives me insane.

Despite all of that we have created enough scoring chances to be well in contention if they'd been converted. It's that final part we just cannot execute.

Post by: LoveNavy on April 21, 2017, 09:15:38 pm
Gee we started half asleep, then clawed our way back with i50's.
Just cannot kick goals.

Charlie's having a crack. Taken some nice grabs and getting into the thick of it.
Cripps, Sammo, soj, and Pickett are there going OK. Need Gibbs to step it up a bit and offer some decent entries. Fisher is putting his little body on the line, and copping a bit. He'll be sore.

Couple of incorrect umpiring decisions = 2 Port goals >:(
Pretty sure we don't need their help to be scored against.

Need to improve disposal and move the ball quicker.

Go new Blues

I don't mind the losing thing (actually I hate it ) but we needvto go down swinging and plying good footy.
Then and only then can you look back and say that was a good game.
Need to be happy with effort and skills.
Currently unhappy with both.

Yep, half time they take over from the fools commentating on 7 and actually analyse what's going on, I'm taking their positive comments on board, the alternative of of Sh.t canning everyone all the time is far less appealing ;)

The good teams kick long low flat kicks to their forwards advantage. We seem to just roost in vaguely in the direction of the goal.

Frustrating to watch our older experienced players butcher simple shots at goal.

Flyboy. FFS brother.
They're a bloody yoing team learning. Younger than most.
They are trying to keep possession of the ball. They have to learn that 1st and foremost. When they get that confidence, quicker ball movement will come.
Support the team brother.

My son has just asked to follow another team.
He has been a member since he was 2mths old.
He is 14 now.
He is over the garbage we have delivered over his lifetime.
We are crap and will be crap for another 15 years.

We all cry 'play the kids' and so we play all the kids at the hardest road trip of all and we want to spit the dummy because we can't keep pace!  And it's easy to blame Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson and the like but how can you make an impression when you are trying to take on a whole team by yourself.

We are GWS in their first years.....sh1tload of kids and some older heads who are just outnumbered.

Well, this is what you get if and when you want to play and keep playing the kids!

Too many kids, no mature bodies, this week we have 11 players making Daisy look proficient.

I keep hearing about these fast kids, but they all seem second to the ball!

These kids will end up so mentally damaged they'll be worthless to Carlton. This "Play the kids" mentality is just a joke the "Expert Supporters" of other clubs like to play on the rudderless weathervane that is the Carlton media driven football club! They'll harvest the remnants of our list after we've dumped or written them off as 3rd or 4th year players, and well all marvel at how they've improved after they left our club!

Why do we only chase and follow the guy with the ball and not also run and chase oppo plyers running with that player with the ball.
Seems such a junior footy tactic we don't do.

Firstly, this is our second game after a 6 day break.

We are too young, to weak physically and mentally to cope with this.

Secondly, since the opening bounce, we have been intimidated, tentative, and generally weak in every aspect of the game.

We still can't stick a tackle. We still can't hit a target with a 30 metre field kick to a bloke who is not under pressure to receive.
We are as slow as a snail with our decision making.

Now for my pet peeve. Jack Silvagni. I am sick and tired of watching him not take responsibility when he has a chance to goal. He did last week, he did it last year, and tonight in the first quarter, he was about 15 out after receiving the ball, could have thrown it on the boot and taken the shot,  but instead went for a hospital hand pass to another player in a worse off situation than him resulting in a turnover. I'm all for unselfish play, but there is a time and place, and he is totally unaware of either.  If he doesn't get rid of this idiocy that he's obviously had since his junior days, and keeps making stupid decisions like he is, he will never reach the hights as a player that he MAY, and I say May, have the capacity to reach.

Comes in because we didn't have anyone else available when Kreuzer couldn't come up.
Comes up against an athletic beast in Ryder who has come back off a weeks rest.

Cripps is a great player, but I'd be trading him sooner rather than later.

In our team he is no value, he is surrounded by players that are too slow, and opposition clubs use his opponent to sprint forward at every opportunity. He's too slow to make up for lost ground once the opposition get hold of the ball. They do this because they do not need to respect him as a forward target they are able to roll the dice.

He's got 40 or 50 games up now, if he can't make himself a viable forward target he's in for a long career full of pain.

Cripps is a great player, but I'd be trading him sooner rather than later.
All due respect, turn the TV off, go to bed.

That's what I mean about Jack. 40 out, almost directly in front, go back, line it up and hopefully kick a goal. but, no, he had to play on.

Didn't have a pre-season as he was on the LTI list.

Comes in because we didn't have anyone else available when Kreuzer couldn't come up.
Comes up against an athletic beast in Ryder who has come back off a weeks rest.

Not sure what you were expecting from him, but we were asking a lot of him given the above.

X2.  Totally underdone, but there was no one else.

Our tackling has been very poor and just checked, Murphy has not laid one!  He had been going OK in previous games.

Certainly a big ask. Ruck cupboard was bare. He'll be better for the run and reminder of the standard.

Gonna be hard for Brendan to sell this to our supporters, just ask Wayne Brittain.

After a FULL preseason? Why can't he last more than 4 games? Not conditioned enough?

FWIW, if you look at the AFL fantasy rankings.

Murphy is #1 in the entire league after 4 games!
Yes, better than Danger, Selwood, Kennedy.....

Agree. If there was a mercy rule in AFL footy to call off the game earlier, it would've been invoked.

That's when you realize even supercoach and fantasy points have their faults.

For a couple of blokes who look injured Murphy and Gibbs look OK to me.

Cripps actually kicked the ball tonight, but he showed us why he doesn't do it more often, he needs to keep trying or it'll never get better!

Cripps is a contested beast, but his kicking is average and he's very slow. A real Lion Heart, but if we're going to keep him, we must build a midfield around his assets, that also mitigate his limitations. No 1 on the list is mids with express pace.
