McKay didn't play last season and McGovern did a hammy early we should too much class for them.

As there are no spectators, does the roof at Darklands still have to stay open?  It may be to our advantage if it does.

They were missing Ziebell and Cunnington last time we played, like Zurhaar on Jones Ziebell takes particular delight in ironing out Carlton opponents.

I hope Ed does a good lock down job on Cunnington, that might just about be enough to swing it in our favour. But I wouldn't be surprised to find Ed doing a defensive forward role on Ziebell, Ziebell is usually far more damaging against us than Cunnington or Uniacke.

They're in very good form, MBB. Their ladder position is not an accurate reflection of their recent form.
Agree with MBB, they dont really have many guns to fire....no Brown anymore, Tarrant also out.
Only problem is their midfield where they have some hard bodied players supported by one of the better rucks in the comp.
If the intensity and attack on the ball is there we shouldnt have any problems, if we have players not wanting to contest properly or thinking Walsh and Cripps will save the day again we will get knocked over.

Tarrant out won't hurt them. He doesn't have a matchup this week anyway.

You are not worried about where our goals will come from?

Lets try this....
TDK / Silvagni
Cripps
Kennedy
xxxxxx

That is most likely our go to midfield setup. Obviously with others filling the 4th spot and rotating through...Dow, Curnow, Walsh, etc.

That also happens to be our best KPF options available on our list.....all 4 of them.

So how do we get them playing midfield AND forward at the same time? We will be robbing Peter to pay Paul and vice versa.

It is quite possible that we win the midfield battle, but lose up forward. Then we could swing some changes to win up forward, but then not get the ball down there after losing the midfield battle.

Would have thought Martin and Betts would be too classy for their opponents and kick a few goals this week..

Id think about playing Liam Jones at full forward and line up like we did against the cats.  Or this might be plan b if owies, cripps, betts, Martin and co aren't getting the job done.

and how do we get the ball to them? Dribble it inside 50?

With no big marking forwards to worry about, they just need to defend the corridor and guard space there.
Small forwards pushed to the boundary to get marks inside 50, where conversion chances are low. You need key forwards leading to create space and or create crumbs.

We better hope we get a lot of turnovers in the middle and/or free kicks to get the ball forward in a hurry. If they have time to setup we are going to struggle to score.

I think this is a better plan than relying solely on small forwards.

Keep our midfield strong and limit the ball going inside D50.
Use Jones forward to create crumbs and let the small forwards go from there.

Cripps at CHF and play Betts out of the goalsquare. Reads it very well and might sneak a couple on the lead. Might throw the opposition off.

I dont think Jones will move outside the def half (mostly) for the rest of his career at Carlton.

Turner, Hall, Atley, Walker, and a young L plater in Ben McKay isnt exactly the next AA defense, if we cant get contributors to kick a few goals vs those blokes we might as well give it away....
Williams and Martin should both be big contributors today and pay back some of the faith shown in them..

Richmond won a flag with one key forward and five little blokes, must have been a lot of dribbling....Nth are on the bottom for a reason, they are 5 years behind us in a rebuild with a novice coach.
Time for our coach to show why he should be there next year and some big money players to deliver......

I can't help but think "Why didn't we play Charlie?" as being the #1 question asked by one and all after this game.
