Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 11 2024 Post Game Postulations Carlton vs Gold Coast
Some free kick numbers.
At 3/4 time it was 4-14 (I screenshotted to a friend)
It was then 5-15, 6-16 and then we got the last 5 jn a row to 'even it up' to 11-16....and some of them were definitely not there.

I've never heard the crowd chant "bull-$h!t" so many times in a game. At least 3 times it was loud and clear and directed at the umps. There was also the 'umpire is a wanker' chant that was brought out of retirement too.
When you have 40k at the game and a coach talking about the umps you know something needs to be looked at.

Thankfully, we managed to come out of it with a win anyway.

Yep
Voss in his press conference was pretty clear.
Umpire decisions are something that he doesn't normally dwell on...at least not publicly.
For him to mention it, meant he found some of the decisions a bit baffling.
He trod a fine line, stating that it's something we need 'clarification' on because the umpires are obviously interpeting things a little different to us and the way we're instructing players.

In other words....he thought they were "bullsh**t " decisions too.

Voss a bit unsure with some of the umpiring decisions... so is going to seek clarification. :D  :D

Kind of suggested that while he's happy with the Pitto/TDK combination and that they are developing well, TDK's efforts "have given us a lot to think about" which may suggest...."they have a lot to think about" going forward.
I don't think anything is set in stone.

The thing is that the rucks are just one 'variable' in a host of 'variables' that have to be considered, including players, in, players out, opposition, weather conditions even venues.

In the GWS game Tom kicked three and Pittonet gave the midfield an armchair ride.

If we look at the teams we played with two rucks, vs the teams we played with one at the start of the year...how were they all going at the time.

It's impossible to be definite.
We can have a view, but it will probably sort itself out as the season progresses.
Having both is a handy backup position if we do decide to go with just one, because odds are they won't both be available for all games.

Let's not get buried down in the ruck debate.

How would we have gone with one ruck against Sydney?
How would we have gone with 2 rucks today?
We actually have no idea.

Different games.
Different venues.
Different opposition.

A good win today, still lots to work on.
But good to see signs of a bit of versatility in the side.
Williams much more impactful as a forward and not really needed as a backman.

Boyd's kicking when he has time is excellent.
He goes at 82% efficiency.

He gets in trouble at times when-
-He tends to rush the hack kick out, which often comes straight back.
-He takes risks, which in itself isn't a bad thing (I think we play too cautious a lot of the time, especially when we build a lead.) These risks have proved costly when he kicks to situations which aren't really advantageous.

A lot of these things improve with game time and he's still only played 26.
He has courage, and a bit of mongrel.
He's going OK and doing his job.

We miss Fogarty.

We do.
But what's also missing across the board is that defensive attack on the ball and the player in possession  that saw us with two players in  just about every tackle after the turn around last year. Fogarty was a big part of that.  Effort and pressure have slackened off.
Maybe the players subconsciously thought that once they found that intensity it would just remain without having to work for it.
They need to re-find it or the season will be gone.

Many found wanting tonight, but the main concerns will be Weitering....
and Walsh

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he's hurt that back again.
There was definitely something wrong, and it wasn't just after that heavy bump near the end

Walsh says it's fine...

Why is Ukraine anyone else's problem?

Without being overly dramatic...Folks probably said the same thing about Czechoslovakia and Poland in the late 1930s.
Once Ukraine is 'annexed' where to next for a Russian president who seems intent on 'returning' Russian borders to something resembling the USSR

There is a pretty good reason why we should be concerned.
There's a good reason why the American response is important...because there may come a time when we need to be concerned about the strength of our own relationship with the USA.

Im no fan of Trump and consider him dangerous but I think its Biden who faces the uphill battle, he is also being blamed for the turn of fortunes in the Ukraine conflict with his slow supply of arms/munitions to the Zelensky Govt allowing Putin to resupply and turn the war into a economic contest.

But it wasn't Biden (or rather the folks looking after him) who held up the aid to Ukraine. It was the Republicans, probably at the behest of Trump who held up that aid by tying it to extracting extra concessions on other issues like the border security.

Mav warned about this when the war was in its infancy. If Trump wins you can probably kiss Ukraine goodbye. NATO wouldn't be able to rely on the USA. We'd probably need to worry about the strength of our own alliances. MAGA is an American first, isolationist movement. The security and well being of other countries doesn't really rate.

The Democrats don't get a free pass though.
If Biden's their candidate then Trump's a real chance....and that's on them.
Apart from the issues with economy, the other big issues in this election are border security and American jobs being lost to other countries. These are resonating when you hear American voters asked about the issues thaty concern them.

In the end the contest will boil down to whether the Americans would prefer a president largely controlled by his 'carers' or a president no-one is really capable of controlling.
That would seem an easy choice for us.
Apparently not so for the USA.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Trumpled (Alternative Leading)
The problem as I see it though  is that by their choice of candidate the Democrats are actually putting Trump in with a chance.

He should have no chance in a 'thinking' nation.
It's just illogical to me.
It makes no sense at all.
But then it is America...and that stopped making sense long ago.
