Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2019 AFL Rd 1: Carlton vs Richmond at the MCG: Post Game Passion
Weitering is the big liability. He is not up to 'holding' a KPF. His body language is dreadful, some say 'laconic',  I say defeatist and timid. Certainly slow off the mark and reactive. Needs to attack the ball as his body work is non-existent. He let the ball slip 'out the back' of the pack, which is as cardinal sin, the Tigers always convert these opportunities.

You'd think after 3 years Weits would be throwing his considerable size around  spitting a few packs open and charging out of defence. Nah...Not this bloke. Doesn't look hungry enough. I would move him up forward again, as he seems an OK mark....play Paddy Kerr at full back.

And I wonder why we never came out on the ground during the warm up, just to get a feel for the greasy conditions. Do we ever train at night with a slippery yellow ball ? It didn't seem like we had  with the fumbling and bumbling efforts last night.

As for Murphy, I don't think it set the right tone pre-match with the whole 'Love-in' for his milestone. For God sake they were playing Crowded House on the PA, hardly going to psych the players up for battle !

And the relevance of Whitnall presenting the match ball...what was that in aid of ? We need to move on from our disastrous recent  history , not glorify blokes who had to attend fat farms.

Focus on the here and now,...we have players that can write a new chapter and put us back in the finals picture.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 VFL Rd 18: Northern Blues vs Casey at Casey
DeKoning looks set for a promising future..he was really the only player at AFL standard for us yesterday. A good judge of a mark in gale force winds. Why don't we try to get Weideman to Ikon Park...will not get a game with McDonald and Hogan filling the forward posts. Kerr really should have bagged 5 or 6 goals in those conditions to be considered for a recall. Although it wasn't ideal for a leading forward he wasn't showing great mobility once the ball hit the deck.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 10: Pre Game Irritation: Carlton vs Geelong
I'm refusing to pay good money to see a backline of Plowman, O'Shea, Mullett. Honest VFL triers the lot of them. Putrid witches hats all year at AFL level. It was a shameful procession yesterday.

And why was Sav Rocca at the game yesterday ? Is Kerr another Casboult basket case ?  :-[

Get this year over and retire Simpson and Murphy. Bring on the future players Schumaker and TDK. Bulk them up starting now. Bulk up Cunningham and Polson.

On recruiting, it might be worth a dip at Peter Wright...he is battling a calf injury so he might be cheap this year. Would certainly give us some flexibility until TDK developed.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 1 Carlton vs Richmond - Pre-Game
I see Marchbank as a high quality rebounding 'playmaker' in our backline. It would only serve to dismantle our backline system to have him moved up forward in a stopping role. O'shea is more of an 'expendable' who could anticipate Rance's strategy. Weiters would make Astbury accountable and drag him deep into our forwardline...and provide McKay & others with some space to work into.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 1 Carlton vs Richmond - Pre-Game
I want O'Shea marking Rance tightly and Weiters or DeKoning to stand Astbury and told to block them & spoil at all costs. Make them earn their possessions. We can't take the Richmond backline lightly...it is their great strength.

I want a player with size & a fearful prescence ala 'Duke' Spalding to create some carnage in the Tigers backline. I will be filthy if McKay gets double-teamed in rnd.1 just because Bolton is still perfecting match-ups up the ground...or trialling a small forwardline which gets out-marked all night.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 17: Post Game Disinterested Dissections: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
T.Watson had a swipe at Carlton on 'Talking Footy' last night. We are apparently CLEARLY the main ringleaders for 'targeting' opposition star players when discussing off the ball niggling.  Bewildering !  I'm sure the Selwoods of the world don't lose sleep over the thought of a Bryce Gibbs nudge.

Never misses an opportunity to sink the boot into the old foe does old Timmy boy, no matter how misguided or hypocritical his accusations are. Essendon got away with 'negating' tactics during Sheedy/Hird era as Murphy & Greg Williams could attest. Don't worry Timmo...Woosha will be assembling his own squad of dirty snipers and nigglers for next year, once their current gameplan fizzles out. It's in their DNA !

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2017 Rd 9: Post Game Patter: Carlton vs Fremantle
Our spoiling efforts and smothering attempts were pathetic. Plowman the chief culprit. He and others barely made contact with the ball in pack situations, a cardinal sin which left us exposed on many occasions.

Freo had too many nippy forwards who left us flat footed. Too many Blues defenders flying in the same pack played into Freo's rovers hands. It wasn't smart by us.

One can only hope Sheahan or Byrne can inject some pace out of the backline. Could Cunningham or Pickett play that role ?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2017 Rd 2 Pre Game Panic Carlton vs Melbourne
I want to see some toe-to-toe niggling on Sunday, with plenty of elbows into ribs. None of last week's "let's handball to Murph" who gets swamped and driven into the turf by 3 players. Stick a few tackles FFS.

Put Casboult out on a wing ironing a few mid-fielders out ala Collingwood game last year. Or maybe a CHB/HBF role where there was so much space for Griffith last week. He needs to throw his weight around, not just be an invisible 3rd banana in the forward line behind Wright and SOSOS. Kerridge on the small forwards might relieve Doc and Simpson. Much tighter checking required this week.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2017 Rd 1 Post Game Analysis: Carlton vs Richmond
Murphy was a bit underdone and got caught & brutally gang-tackled a few times..I reckon that inflated the Tigers tackle stats in my view.

We also lacked a 'road block' at CHB to stop and repel the constant Richmond leads into that area... yet another strategic failure of Boltons. It's unforgivable that Martin did not have a direct opponent for most of the night. Our midfield is just unaccountable and too light-weight for the modern game. You need a few wrecking-ball types !

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 12: Post Game Purgatory: Carlton vs St. Kilda
We played a man down with Walker on the ground. Bolts waited until 1/4 time to drag him (too late). Jogged around chasing the pack or lazily looking for a speccie in the goalsquare ..actually spoilt a Gorringe attempted mark which he had no right to. Unbelievable. The guy has no pace anymore and has lost his leap. If Silvagni can add 5kg of bulk/muscle to his frame surely he is a shoe-in for a leading forward role ?

Why did we play every slow short/stocky player on the list yesterday when St.Kilda had 2 tall forwards and 2 tall backmen out ? Richo must have been mightily relieved to see all our tall backup forwards playing at Box Hill on Saturday. Running us off our feet was always the plan for them...so why did we play our fatigued small & slowish forwards ?

Having Levi as a sole focal point in attack never works and needs sorting before next year. We need Harry, Jakcz & Silvagni in the team ASAP. Look for a specialist Membrey-like leading forward type in the draft as we can't play all the small forwards in the same team (Wright, Army, Lamb, Sumner). Playing our small forwards up on the wing was a recipe for disaster. No defensive angle to their game. We needed Byrne and Boekhurst..true wingmen and ball carriers.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: New Skipper?
Captain Docherty would be a smart move. Choosing a 'low-profile' player to ride the bumps over the next few years until Cripps is media-savvy for the spotlight in 2018. Docherty has just the sort of low profile 'workman-like' attitude that Bolton will be imparting on the group.

You'd have the captain marshalling and encouraging young Weitering, Glass-McCasker & SOS Jr., helping them 'walk taller' & generally reinforcing our new look backline. Docherty will be there in 5 years time which is better than a stop-gap option like Walker or Simmo.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Round 13: Northern Blues vs. Richmond on TV
What is our recruiting/scouting network like in Perth ? Surely the club doesn't make judgements based on 2nd-hand briefs & highlights packages ? If we don't have representatives watching the WAFL games & training week after week IN PERSON, then we will continue to fail (and WCoast will continue to pick the gems).

Problems such as a lack of size & strength with Bockhoerst shouldn't have surfaced mid-season. Why was this not picked up much earlier by Malthouse or Wiley ?!!

His application is hard to assess. I spent 2 years in Perth in my mid-20's and experienced a laid-back beer culture, and they don't endure winters like Melbourne. I'd only be considering WA players if they actually trained the house down and perhaps had spent time in Melbourne to reduce the 'culture & climate shock'.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 1/Best 22 2015
Wood 1st ruck in the seniors (Levi out?), at least until Kruezer can run out a game.

If Jones hasn't slotted 10 goals in the first 5-6 weeks than promote Watson or Johnson.

I would also like a small/athletic type forward coming off the bench...someone like Tutt or Sheehan to support Menzel. Menzel is crucial next year but expect some tight checking tactics from the opposition.
