Title: Rd 14: In Game Anxiety: Carlton vs GWS
Post by: crashlander on June 24, 2016, 08:24:06 pm
With the game in Sydney and only on Fox, I won't be seeing this week's game any time soon.
Pity, but it has happened quite a lot this year. I can't remember a year when I have not been able to see so many games while actually being in the country!
Those lucky enough to be there, shout loud for me!
At least I'll be able to see the Northern Blues on TV.  ;)

Anyway, I got this ready, as I have no idea how busy I'll be in the morning. I look forward to a much better performance than we showed against St Kilda.

Not a flash start, we have hardly had a touch, and we are 15 down. Very sloppy start, several dropped marks in defence hasn't helped.

Wow as much action here as there is on our forward line  :D

Jason Tutt ................. think first man !!

And learn your limitations too !!

Seems there are twice as many GWS players on the field than ours. First to the ball, clean & slick , that class we all saw coming is certainly evident these days. Must say our style of play might be making them look better as well.

Looking ominous, we could easily be 7 goals down at quarter time.

This will be ugly, we're completely outclassed.

And some, that style of play in our golden era early this year not happening today. Our only forward play is to have players running on to a long ball. Showing a real lack of genuine forward options, and not real go to person on our forward line.

We've done well to get this close.
We have no forwards...they've got a dozen :(

They are well drilled , the way they break , we can learn from them for sure. Evident again Philips takes a mark short of the centre has no where to go , slow rainmaker into the forward line , no real direction and they clear with ease.

Stat on Fox shows the dominance 9 out of the last 10 scores

Most of the ugliness in modern footy comes from the child like obsession with mass numbers at the stoppages - those teams that can get fast, clean takeaways from the congestion are at an enormous advantage - and at the moment, GWS and Geelong are the best at this.

To true PaulP they are certainly putting on a clinic today, difference in class & skills is on show for sure.

Our tackling looks very good to me. 12 points down. Tutt OOF.

Much better that quarter but apart from Walker who looks dangerous we have absolutely nothing in our forward 50.
Thomas barely sighted, Gibbs probably our best so far along with Docherty but it's getting monotonous naming those two every week.
The back six are holding up well but there's an awful lot coming their way.
We're really missing the skipper.

They are much slicker and more efficient than us. We are fighting hard but pretty much outclassed skill-wise - we'll always struggle against teams this good. Tutt unfortunately is not going to help us go forward to success. Hard to judge our forwards badly since we just can't give them good F50 ball delivery. I didn't see too much in the NBs to excite me either, apart from L. Jones possibly but he suffers the same starvation problems as our other forwards when he plays seniors.

Not sure two ruckmen works for us ???
Kreuzer seems to go better when he's our sole ruck.

Enjoyed Sumner's speed and slick little sliding trick.

It doesn't work when he's injured.

Then he shouldn't play.

It doesn't work when he is up against a mountain with legs....and is getting double teamed at stoppages.

Giants tall/ruck options give them creative license. That said, we're doing pretty well.

At least they are having a fair dinkum go at it.

That's the best thing about it, we're getting well beaten but playing like we still believe we can win.
It's been a long time since you could say that about the CFC.

Even though we are behind still a different feel, about the team than last season still desire about. But desperately need a small crumbling forward ala Betts Garlett when the ball goes to ground we don't have that style of player on our list, well not one that's showing anything.

It's more palatable losing when the other mob are simply better, as opposed to being beaten by not having a go.  I reckon our forwards will look better if we can improve our clearance work, our kids have been killed in that area this year.

When we come up against teams that process speed , clean skills , we really look second grade, all the endeavour in the world can't stop it if you can't catch them. Our list is not very versitle , many similar type players covering gaps

He has....but lets free him up from that stopping role and try him as full forward.
He can take  a good contested mark and his time as a backman has probably given him a few tips.

7 goals to the Giants in the last quarter. Not our best moment for the year.
Of all the games I haven't seen this year, we have won only one of them: against Geelong. It is not something I would like to see happen again.

He has kicked goals when he has gone forward many times , would give us effort up forward.  I like Everitt , but when he is not in the goals , doesn't give us much else , couldn't hurt to but him in the square for a few weeks.
Glad this non event is over
