I have been a lifelong ardent republican but in recent years I've had second thoughts based on the poor quality of self-serving publicly elected officials we have been seeing. The People's Republic of China also does little to inspire, for example.  Power corrupts, total power corrupts totally. Not sure where all that leaves me?

I think that's the point though....
I'm around Charles' vintage.
I'd take my life over his in a heartbeat.

Agree.. I didn't watch the game last night, it was my sons wedding and reception, we had a great time, no royals, no fox hunts, just 100 commoners hanging out together. Think the bride and groom were of equal or better quality than some of their Royal counterparts too.. But hey I'm biased..

Spent a couple of months working in the former Soviet Union including the breakaway States. The breakaway countries are all a mess, nothing works, the people are hungry and the Governments more corrupt than the old Soviet regime. The old locals want the Soviet lifestyle back where at least they were looked after better. George Orwell when he wrote Animal Farm knew his stuff..

Too right! Animal Farm and 1984 very uncomfortably prophetic.

Thanks Cookie it was, was held in Mt Evelyn, wasn't Buckingham Palace but we all staggered out happy. The brides family are keen Hawks supporters so it could be commoner vs commoner..
My Daughter is getting married later in the year.. Inlaws to be are feral Saints supporters so Im unsure we can continue the Navy Blue bloodline in our family, that's the only Royal blood lm interested in..  ;)

I am always 'twixt and 'tween over the republican debate.  I despise discarding our history although I agreed though with changing the Anthem from GSTQ, just not the replacement.

But if Turnbull likes the idea, it guarantees I'll hate it.

Since Thatcher worked diligently to transform England into a very tatty, 3rd world country, I suggest we give them as wide a berth as possible. Brexit was the final nail in the coffin.
