Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion; AFL Rd 19: Carlton vs North Melbourne
As awful as that was i find it hard to be too hard on the team today. North aren't a wooden spoon team right now and we had way too many injuries and then we lost Harry.

Jack in the ruck, Owies / Eddie as the long marking target... its not sustainable.

No team in the comp can cover 15 or 16 injuries. The competition is too close.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd 19 Carlton vs North Melbourne at Marvel?
Regardless of their ladder position, the Kangabies are in good form... and that will be a greater challenge for us than some might realise. Possibly even a more difficult opponent than the inconsistent Dagpies.

Especially important game for - Kennedy, can he back it up? Consistency has been an issue for him. Similar for Dow, can he back it up and even improve? And can H put together 4 qtrs?

Really important, also, for Martin & Williams to back it up and improve.

Roos with Cunnington (who will be back this week) are a tough opponent. He takes care of the heavy lifting which makes life a lot easier for their youngsters.

PS, ah to dream... when I saw SOS applauding in the box I thought for a moment it might have been the coach's box... how good would it be to have SOS involved in coaching... he would sure command respect and demand a level of commitment that would be bloody terrific. Might not thrill Liddle, but most highly successful organisations still have senior individuals who might not get on so well... no gem stone was ever created without time in the tumbler.

Director of football on the Board... now that'll get some of us here polarized and leaping about! Be a helluva lot better than Judd whose head was mostly elsewhere planning how to make more loot. SOS would at least be focussed with his heart in the job, not hesitating to call others to account and setting a high bar re club success - on field!!!

SOS to the board? That would be a dream appointment. If he nominated and it went to a members vote he'd win by a landslide!

With potentially Cripps and Charlie to come in to the side in the next few weeks, and Honey, O'Brien, (I still have hope), Setterfield, Carrol and Kemp doing ok in the seconds, and maybe Murphy, McGovern, McDonald, Casboult and Pittonett being able to return, we might have a squad to take us into the finals if we happen to make it.

I would love to see O'Brien in particular given a go in the post-Barker era. I still rate him. Guys that can run like him with disposal skills that good need to be given as many chances as possible.

Great win today, loved H, JSoS, Weitering, Williams, Saad, Eddie, Walsh, Dow, Stocker and Kennedy, but I’m sorry Plowman and Newnes have to go now

Yes they work hard, but they’re both average-poor players and you’d be very hard pressed to find any non-Carlton supporter say otherwise.

I’d be playing McGovern in Plowmans spot once the former is available and I’d also be replacing Newnes with one of Carroll, Honey or Kemp, as soon as one of them is ready.

With those regards replacements we’ll be better again.

Tend to agree. There are a few guys playing like they're just holding a spot rather than really going out there to help win. Not that Newnes or Plow were terrible. Just limited players who are just hanging in there.

Loved Kennedy's game in particular. Collingwood's midfield steamrolled us earlier in the year but he went toe to toe with them and was brilliant. Walsh likewise but that goes without saying.

Dekoning was an absolute liability in the first half but gee he stepped up the desperation and effort in the second half. Just wanted it more than Grundy on so many occasions. Worked his butt off also.

Same here LP.  He is a vital part of our defensive structure.

As a matter of interest, how many goals were scored by his direct opponent(s) today and how many score assists did they have?  I can't think of any.

Wasn't he on the young guy that kicked 3?

Was on Elliott for most of the second half.

Just don't watch a replay of the last time we played Collingwood if you're a Plowman fan... horror show.

 Jordan Boyd
 Levi Casboult
 David Cuningham
 Charlie Curnow
 Sam Docherty
 Michael Gibbons
 Caleb Marchbank
 Oscar McDonald
 Mitch McGovern
 Alex Mirkov
 Marc Murphy
 Sam Philp
 Marc Pittonet
 Patrick Cripps

14 out. What an effort to win 3 of the last 4. Zero depth in the big men stakes. Dekoning too young to be playing first ruck and still bring home the 4 points.

SOS was immense today. Such a competitor!

He did a great job today, which allowed the likes of Saad, Williams and Williamson to get up the ground. Fans crucify Plowman because he makes the effort to get to unwinnable contests, and he will inevitably get caught out and cannot win them all, so they blame him and not the guys who left those players unmarked.

But if Plowman doesn't leave his man and make those contests the guys like Saad and Williams would be anchored in D50.

Fans (me anyway) criticise Plowman because he lopes when he should run, makes dumb decisions regularly and costs the team energy sapping goals. Not many say he never does anything good and that he deserves zero credit for anything but he needs to sort out what's going on between his ears because his panic attacks cost us goals and more importantly impact on all of the younger players around him.

Not to say he doesn't get some tough jobs and holds some good small forwards on occasion.

His good may or may not outweigh his bad but we need to set our sights higher as a club than blokes who get aren't ALWAYS bad. We need elite calm decision makers - especially in defence.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
There are rumours around that those players are being rushed back at Teague's insistence, because he desperately needs wins, going against Russell's advice.

Even if that's true (not that I'd want to question the impeccable track record of BF) but it's still on Russell. It's his responsibility to manage the players fitness - and not allow anyone else to influence his decisions on what is best for the players.

And yes McGovern has been massively mismanaged since he got to the club. To anyone who's been paying the slightest bit of attention that is fairly obvious.

But Gov is just one example - of many but who cares about trying to argue the point. Carlton's injury list has been as bad as anyone in the league since Russell arrived - that's just fact. And we can't run out games. Right now the injury list is sitting at 15 which is as bad as anyone yet again! Not saying they're ALL Russells fault - but if he left and we appointed a hyperactive Cocker Spaniel to the position I doubt we'd have worse than 15 injuries at this point. So hardly a devastating blow if he left.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
Too many people in the industry vouch for him being the best in the business. Remember he is dealing with humans, flesh and bones not machines made of a metal and the game is quicker than ever before. Injuries are on the increase across the industry, not just at our club. There is nothing in the world Russell could have done to prevent injuries to Cripps (on the weekend), Charlies knee, Docs knees, Govs ankles, SOS shoulders, every one of Chandelier Marchbanks injuries etc. You could argue some of the soft tissues could be related to training load management but if you look at the players they have happened to, most are players with questionable preparation and training standards. "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee". I'd be staggered if the review found issues with Russells credentials, methods or handling of our S&C and injuries.

Wow... you're a LOT more forgiving than me.

Rehab is on Russell. Whether its SoS shoulder or Gov's back/hammy issues. He is rushing them back and not rehabbing them properly. Whatever it is he's hardly going to be missed.

Barker froze out Dow and Kennedy. Barker (lovely bloke) but I am not sure he had the faintest clue what he was doing.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
Hard to find excuses for Russell regardless of reputation. A guy like McGovern - he has clearly been mismanaged. Curnow, Marchbank, Silvagni, Cunningham, Kreuzer, etc.

Its a long long list of players he hasn't been able to keep on the park.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
Is Russell any good anyway?
Can't  keep our players on the field. We consistently look out on our feet late in games. I can't say he'd be any great loss if he left.

I desperately hope we stick with Teague though. Getting rid of Barker was already a massive step in the right direction. We appointed DT - now let's give him a chance.
