AFL 2025 Rd 14: Carlton vs West Coast/color] The first quarter and 3/4's was excellent. After that, it was a slog.
Trends: [1] There were 10 voters this round, which is worse than we usually get for a loss. A sign of things to come? Or just because the game was interstate. It took me a long time to see it all, as I was in hospital for the whole game. It sort of described my weekend! Please do voteplease do vote, win, lose or draw: it is something we appreciate and it makes our statistics a lot more reliable. And our statistics hold up pretty well when it comes to John Nicholls Medal night!
[2] The rating was a 7.77, which represents a C-, shows how disappointed the voters were even with a win. Considering how they felt in the next 2 weeks ...
[3]14 players managed a mention this week, which is a little low for modern wins. We often get 16 or more when we actually play 4 quarters.
[4] The average vote this week was 25, which is about as low as a win ever goes.
[5]3 players managed 100 votes or more this week. It might have been more if more people had voted, but it does show the malaise we've experienced this season.
[6] George Hewett was BOG again this round, for the 4th time this year, with 326 votes, followed by Adam Cerra with 186 and Ollie Hollands with 132. Ollie has 2 top 3 finishes so far this season.
[7]One player managed votes from everyone this week, George Hewett. Ollie missed from 1 voter, while the rest were all over the place.
[8] Again, our youngsters made some contribution this week, led by Ollie Hollands and Jaxon Binns.
[9] This was a round where our mids and defenders shone out. Our forwards, not so much. I much rather an even performance, but our forwards have struggled this year.

Anyone know where EH is at? I think his class is sorely missed in the team?
No official word, but rumour has it he's out for the year. Other rumours suggest he might not be wanted back next year.
Indeed, very difficult to know where Elijah Hollands is at. There have been rumours, some ugly, but no real data to grab hold of. There also seem to be those who think he won't be back.
We got to see more of Moir's footy IQ. Much better game. Put his hand up.
Frankie E was dangerous and also put his hand up, which probably means we'll promote Durdin.
Liked Charleson's game, coming along nicely. Not yet.
For mine, Lemmey still doesn't have enough 'authority' in his game... close, though. Nothing to lose giving him serious consideration - give him a taste. We already know what we're getting with Young (the obvious spot to be filled by Lemmey).
Evans is not fast enough, big enough or good enough for AFL - He is well suited to the VFL where he can tackle players who are standing still or who are slower than he is and not expecting to be run down.
Also like Charleson's poise and skills - might be a good player next year.
Also liked Moir's ability to take a contested mark (or two) - unlike Lemmey, a one-trick player with limited mobility who needs to be given the ball by way of an uncontested mark or a free kick. At least he can kick the ball effectively but I doubt we have the senior players who can kick it to his advantage.
I Finally saw something useful from Monahan - seemed to have some poise and an idea of what was required of him - handball skills also seemed quite good - might still make a player if he is persevered with
Rob Monahan: Indeed, Monahan seems to be learning. His skills are still a bit hit and miss, especially by foot. His handball can be quite good. He is gaining in game awareness. Matt Duffy: Further down the path than Monahan was last year, but you can tell he's still learning his craft. That said, while he isn't getting much ball, his opponents aren't either. He spent time on the Port resting rucks and did pretty well there, also on Jim Miller, the Port FF. Touched 2 kicks that would otherwise have been goals.
Harry Charleson: his best game so far, and he has definitely been on the improve. His kicking is deep and he isn't slow. Developing nicely.
As others have already noted, Ashton Moir was good last night. He is more engaged in the game and running out the game better. he isn't getting out-bodied so easily. His kicking is excellent and he is looking dangerous when he is in the centre square. His tackles count is up and he is holding onto more marks. He still has a fair way to go, but his development, even compared to earlier this season, is obvious.
I liked Cowan's game. Now, if only he plays with that dash in the seniors!
Flynn Riley: as others have mentioned, his last half was much better than his first. He started holding onto some very nice contested grabs and he tried to move the ball on quite well. Even his ruck craft was improved. I guess it had to be: he was very ordinary early.
I wouldn't have been promoting Ben Camporeale on his 1st quarter and a bit; he looked off the pace and not as desperate as the Port guys were. He ended up with 22 possessions, 4 clearances and 10 tackles, so he must have upped his game considerably.
Lucas Camporeale was awful early, playing like the seniors, dropping marks and miskicking the ball, unable to score. His 15 disposals was disappointing, as he has a good pair of hands and a good leap when he is confident.
Pitto: he was leaving much of the ruckwork to Riley early, and Riley was getting flogged, but for a nice clearance in the second quarter that ended up in a goal. The most unimpressive game I've seen from the youngster to that point. He ended up with 10 possessions and 9 taps. Pitto was ordinary early; he gave up the chase, which almost led to a Port goal. He had 1 tap in the first quarter and a bit, but ended up with 41 taps, 17 possessions, 4 clearances and 4 tackles. He really pulled the finger out!
Frankie Evans might get promoted on that effort: 24 possessions, 8 tackles, 7 marks, 3 goals 2. I don't know that he is good enough, to be honest, but our small forwards have been so ordinary it wouldn't be like he would be worse. If he does this for the seniors, he'll get more games.
Will White has really gone off the boil. 16 possessions, 1 goal 2, 3 tackles is an improvement, but he was doing much better than that last year.
It is so good to win. I couldn't watch the crap we were serving up earlier; Port just wanted it more. So glad to have the guys win, and Moir kicking 4 goals! I was sitting back, listening to Die Walküre on ABC Classic. Couldn't get upset at our crappy play that way!

Not taking the opposition seriously enough is lethal. I thought we worked that out when they were here last. However, it looks otherwise. I've nothing against Green, but he doesn't have the runs on the board. He should NOT BE our #3 at the moment. For that matter, Konstas shouldn't be there either. He might have the talent to make it, but his present selection is pure speculation. You cannot afford that in a tight series. I also wonder what we've done for preparation for this series. It does NOT seem to have been doing our homework. We should have the bowlers worked out, their weaknesses knows and exploited. That hasn't happened either.
Not impressed at the moment. Batting might be hard on a dodgy pitch, but it isn't so hard as we've made it out to be. Time to show some mental hardness; we haven't seen any of it for quite a while.
I'm sorry, I'm all for the girls having an footy competition, but dal Pos as a senior mens Development coach, is someone taking the piss or is the club dead broke?
I have no idea if she has any coaching capability or not. But I'm hoping those who employed her do have some idea.
