Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 16 Pre Game Thread - Blues V Dockers
I wholeheartedly agree with you. When I suggested the above it was to 'balance' a learning experience and giving it our best against great opposition. They're two sides we won't beat but I give us a chance against any other sides bar the top 4.

Tanking is a cancer to culture. Should never even be contemplated. Losing to get a higher pick is not only what you accurately point out (player x is going to change everything for us - Messiah Complex continues) but is foolish beyond belief. The draft is not about our first pick only, it is much, much more than that.

Fine then.  Let's win 3 more and miss out on a 10 year Forward / Key Defender.  Let's trade out Hendo too while we're at it.  That way, we'll have a plethora of goal kickers in Casboult and Wood etc.

Personally despise tanking. We've tried it in the past, and it hasn't worked. Melbourne has tried it, and it doesn't work. I've said it before, it's just a variation of the Messiah complex. Instead of waiting for gun trades to save us, instead of waiting successful coaches to save us, now we turn to elite pimply faced adolescents to save us.

We need to build a culture that despises losing, that despises giving less than 100% every game, that can really develop kids the way other clubs do. Into such a system, you then trade, draft, recruit players who have a framework in place, and something to actually aspire to. Not, "you're barely out of nappies, you need to save us."

Sorry, but that's my 2 bob's worth.

Franklin, Lewis and Roughy were all once 'pimply faced adolescents'.

When you're watching from the sidelines it's easy to make some rather odd suggestions. So here's one.

Over the next two weeks we play probably the best two sides (being nudged strongly by Sydney and WC) so why not use this as an opportunity to play any young bloke you're wondering about to firstly see how he responds and secondly so he gets to experience first hand how the best go about it. Then perhaps rest any of our front line older blokes carrying a nasty niggle or two. Treat it as an education.

Specifically you'd play Whiley, Smith, Dick, Fields, Jaksch and Walsh... not sure if we're allowed to play Russell. Perhaps even Foster.

Give each of Murph, Jamison and Carrazzo a rest for one of those two games. Use these two upcoming games to expose, teach and to rest. Then for the remainder of the season set out to win. After these two upcoming games I believe we could win 4 or so games and finish around 14th and have a much better 2nd half to the year (perhaps even 5-6 from our second 11 games as opposed to 2-9 from our first 11). Or maybe I'm just bored and should get back to work!  ;D

We need to start TANKING now.  Don't discuss it in the media, or at the club...like NIKE... Just DO IT!    I think we could win 3 more for the year, Collingwood, Melbourne and Brisbane.  Let's tank the Brissy game.  If we do, I've calculated we'll finish LAST.   Might sound awful, but in reality it isn't.  We get a gun tall forward (Pick 1) and Pick 19 which we could package up with Yarran/Henderson for another top tenner.  All of a sudden, we're BACK.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2015 Rd2 Carlton vs West Coast Post Match Pain & Suffering
i d like to turn the spotlight on Andrew Mckay for the minute.
He's the head of football at this club.
should he be or is he the head of recruitment for external skills coaches?

What the FK does Andrew Mckay do?

I totally agree with this post.  Andrew McKay is a pussy.  He thinks he shhite don't stink because he's a vet etc.  Truth is, he is a man without spine and without a clue.  We are now officially the worst club in the AFL.  Yes, worse than the saints.  The cronies that brought in Malthouse and got rid of any goal kickers we have- e.g Betts etc. need to be spilled.  Our president would not be out of place on Underbelly 5 and should go immediately. Murphy needs to be left to play a midfield role- not hide him in the forward pocket- Gibbs should be dropped to the reserves to teach him how to go hard at the ball- and anyone (including him) who decide they want to wear those stupid girly buns in their hair need to change this or not play senior footy.  Menzel included.  We are an awful, sad looking, boring, crapola side.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Blues v Pies - Post match analysis
I said alot of years ago we were awful.  People on here said I was negative- hell, I was even banned.  I said our list was crape.  I said we had big issues at the top.  We are a club in turmoil.  Don't give me this 'oh we'll be okay if we play the kids'... truth is, we've recuited absolute crapola...we don't have any good kids! (with the exception of Menzle and Possibly Casboult).   We need a total clean out starting from the board down.  Seriously, we will finish 17th or 18th this year and that is a disaster for a side with 17 first round draft picks in it!    Murphy was an awful choice as captain.  Should have gone to Gibbs.  The other issue is we have people like Simpson and Carrots who are reminants of the Pagan era who people think are guns.  Mate they are crapola.  We should keep Murphy, Gibbs, Rowe, Jammo, Warnock, Daisy (even though he is crap but he might get better), Yarran, Hendo, Touhy, Menzle, Casboult and Judd.  The rest,  Goodbye and NEVER to return.  We are that far behind the competition at the moment it's not funny.  It's ridiculous that we kept our recruiter... he is a spud.  We need to get rid of Johhny Barker and Green and Co.  They are spuds.  Malthouse is a joke.  Flick him.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: R1 Carlton vs Power After-match Aftermath
We are the worst field kicking side in the AFL bar none, it wouldn't matter who coached us because we just don't have the skill.
The endeavour is fine, but we don't have the cattle.

I don't think our recruiting department has done a very good job over the years and we are suffering because of this.  Our 3 number 1 draft picks AT BEST are good players, and I wouldn't put Kreuzer in that category as I feel he struggles as a ruckman and certainly isn't a forward.  Gibbs is classy but doesn't run back hard enough the other way, and Murph is simply a very good player, but not a superstar.  Our biggest problem is our lack of decent kickers in the team.  We have Bell, Robinson, Carazzo, Macinness, Armfield, Walker, mclean. etc.etc... most of which can not kick properly.  The hawthorn model is 'use the damn ball effectively' and to do that you have to be able to kick.    Ratten built this team, so I blame him more than Malthouse, but i do think Malthouse and the club missed a trick by again failing to realise that what we need is a decent key forward and another key back, rather than more mids.     I think we'll win about 6 games this year only.  It will be the end of the Sticks board, possibly Mick and probably a number of senior players including Judd.  I think this will be a good thing.  We need to strip the club right back, and get new people in that are not 'carlton people'.  We need to put an end to the boys club.  We are a disgrace at the moment, and quite honestly, I can't see us getting any better any time soon.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Parenting & Discipline
Wow, what a loaded topic. I don't know what is actually right and neither does anyone here, because there isn't a definitive guide that proves what is right, so we go on what we believe. I will state though that somethings are clearly wrong and parents 'belting' kids is clearly wrong, parents calling kids words like b****, c***, a***hole etc is wrong.

My children are 12 and 13 year old boys and like a lot of children, yes they are not perfect and yes they are a bit lazy around the house and yes they love to wrestle and fight with each other if left to do that, but overall they are well behaved.

They live with me full time with some weekends with their mother, for the majority of their life they lived primarily with her until a few years ago. She cannot discipline the boys at all and they simply do not listen, to the degree that she has to regularly call me when they aroe there and I talk to them and they behave.
I have smacked by boys on the backside during their life, maybe 4-5 times each, for very serious infractions and never hard or with the intent to hurt, their mother however does. Personally I don't like when I do smack them, but it is not done in anger on the times it has been, it has been calculating and done because I believed that a sterner message was needed and the smack was symbolic.

However, what I personally find is that I don't make empty threats ever, for all of our life if I said there was a punishment for an action, there was a punishment, be that 1 month without electronics, 1 week of writing lines after school or off to bed early. If they were warned and subsequently misbehaved, the consequence was enforced.
They know this and when I say to do something it is almost always done immediately, they have hardly ever talked back and they are always complimented on their behaviour in public.
The other thing is that up to this age still, the favorite thing for them to do is something with a parent, be it play basketball, watch a movie, go for a ride or a swim... basically anything.
I think with that being the case, they generally don't want to lose those times and that is far more powerful than a smack could ever be.

I don't judge a parent who thinks a smack on the bottom is the appropriate punishment as often as they reasonably see fit, nor one who has never smacked their child... I think as long as it is not abusive, it is a parental choice.

I think you've got it pretty right.  I don't agree with physical punishment though.  No human has the right to damage anothers body or cause them pain in my view.  Smacking or hitting a kid just brings either resentment or fear.  Two things you don't want.  Having said this, I've seen your kids and you are a terrific dad.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 22 : Blues Choke Against Injectors (Anti-Losing Rage)
Funny how people have ridiculed me for a couple of years when I post negative comments about the club.  Tonight demonstrated why I have done so.   I knew about 5 years ago that we were heading in the wrong direction.  1995 is so far away now it's not funny.  We need a complete clean out- starting with Sticks Kernahan, O'sullivan, Barker and that useless hack Green.  Malthouse needs to reassess that stupid boundary line game plan, or we need to pay him out... immediately.

The following players have to go:

The 3 amigos.  Armfield, Casboult, Joeseph (can you believe he got a game tonight!),  Waite, Scotland, Catchia, Duygan, Warnock and Robinson, Gibbs and Judd.

Hopefully the rebuild will start next year with players like Menzel, Henderson, Touhey and Kruzer.   Graham and Bootsma don't look up to it either IMO.. but they are just kids so maybe they could be given 1 more year.

We are fooked.
