AFLW silly season - trade period starts 7/12/23

Seems we are linked with every (wo)man and their dog.

My request for a clone of bri moody is likely to come true with us trying to get her twin sister Celine accross from the dogs.

Pies Father/daughter Tarni Brown is another recruit likely to come over.

Duursma sister wants to come over.

Pritchard and Arehns also possibilities.

Unfortunately, Mua Laloifi is set to leave. For whatever reason her performances last season were not up to scratch. Add that to her multiple concussions and perhaps thats why the club are not offering her another contract? Will be hard seeing her in another uniform as she was universally loved.

Former Carlton players Maddi Gay and Charlotte Wilson are both looking to get out of the demons as well.

Jess Hosking has been given the flick by the tigers. We could do worse with targetting her back, but dont think shes on our radar.

Thankfully Abbie McKay has signed up for another few years today.

Charlotte Wilson was pretty good for Melbourne this season; she had finally returned to something of the form she showed with us early in her career. I think Melbourne will miss her.
Melbourne, after years of keeping the list more or less intact, is suffering hugely, with a lot of players looking to play elsewhere. Money? Possibly. Maybe they think Melbourne has peaked and is on a downwards trend?

I am disappointed to see Mua go, but her form this year was ... ordinary, to say the least.

I don't quite see the need for Celine Moody, who has never reached the heights her sister has. We have quite a good second ruck in Jess Good. However, it does give us some marking power.

I understand the need to improve our list, but what are we going to lose to get these potential ins?

On the AFLW website a 'staff writer' has made a few mistakes in the Hosking article.

Both Hosking sisters were inaugural AFLW players with Carlton before moving to the Tigers when they entered the competition ahead of the 2020 season.

Sarah faces the prospect of a first AFLW season without her sister in the same side and said on this week's episode of Tagged that she was firmly focused on supporting Jess as she seeks a place on another AFLW list.

It reflects really poorly on the legitimacy of this competition when their own website makes basic mistakes.

I think that’s symptomatic of the “close enough is good enough” attitude that seems to prevail in most media formats.

First trade done and dusted for us.

Carlton receive:
Yasmin Duursma and round two pick (currently Pick 25)

Port Adelaide receive:
Round one pick (currently Pick 21)

Not bad taking a former pick 5, while only moving back 4 spots in the 20's.

Libby Birch has requested a trade to North Melbourne, instead of the Bulldogs: a last minute coup.

A few new deals:

[1] 4 club swap where we get Tarni Brown from Collingwood.

Carlton receives: Tarni Brown and round three pick (currently No.48)

Carlton gives: Paige Trudgeon, Annie Lee, round three pick (currently No.47)

Collingwood receives: Annie Lee, round two pick (currently No.31) and round three pick (currently No.59)

Collingwood gives:  Tarni Brown and round three pick (No.48)

North Melbourne receives:  Round three pick (currently No.47)

North Melbourne gives:  Round three pick (currently No.52) and round three pick (currently No.59)

St Kilda receives:  Paige Trudgeon and round three pick (currently No.52)

St Kilda gives:  Round two pick (currently No.31)

I reckon we've given up more than most in this deal, although both Trudgeon and Lee struggled for games this season.

[2] Sydney & Brisbane:
Sydney Swans receive: Kiara Hillier

Brisbane Lions receive: Round four pick (currently No.73)

[3] Birch leaving Melbourne is news.
North Melbourne receive: Libby Birch and round two pick (currently No.35)

Melbourne receive: Round one pick (currently No.19)

[4] Pick Swap
Collingwood receive: Round one pick (currently No.9)

Richmond receive: Round one pick (currently No.11) and round two pick (currently No.29)
Collingwood must have someone in mind.

Mua has asked to go the Dogs, which is almost certain to happen. A big pickup for the Dogs.
Celine Moody has requested a trade to us. Shouldn't be a problem, given her injury issues.

I think Pies won the 4-way deal.

Got Lee + 2nd round pick
Lost Brown and moved 3rd round pick back 9 spots.

I reckon we gave up too much compared to the other clubs.

But since we chose to not give Mua a contract at all, perhaps using her value was a bonus.

That seems expensive.

But it's a potential type deal.

Celine was thought of by many to be the better prospect when the sisters were younger but sport wasn't her priority. Injuries and career interruptions have curtailed her progress, but maybe time is right and the reunion with her sister will be the trigger for bigger and better.
