Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Melbourne CBD Incident
I agree with your original theory about a bullet...the world is a sad place, these nutters dont deserve to be kept at the tax payers expense....
Lives, families ruined today by one man who will probably live out his life in some institution oblivious to the pain he has caused and then want parole....

I'm not up to date on the latest, but if he did indeed kill some kids on his rampage, i doubt his inmates will let him live out his life.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Murphy to lead again in 2017
Even with the retirement of Walker and Simpson coming to the end of his illustrious career, I'd be very surprised if Cripps and Weitering get the top jobs so soon.  I reckon Docherty will be vice-captain or captain before Cripps or Weitering get the nod and I suspect Ed Curnow is ahead of them too.

It will be interesting to see whether Weitering makes the leadership group this season ... and whether Gibbs is returned  ???

Rowe and Kreuzer could be leadership group candidates.

I reckon even Army could be a smokie for the leadership group. Won some community awards...

I would guarantee you 100% if someone pulled that on my girls when they were little, they would not have even touched the footy. As a wise old man once said to me as a little kid who was thinking of changing allegiance (only for a second or two ;D), "you can barrack for whoever you like...as long as its Carlton". Very much like the Godfathers "I'm gonna make him an offer he cant refuse" line. They leave an indelible impression.

For every story of someone defying their Carlton barracking parents to barrack for someone else, there is a story of someone defecting to Carlton from non-carlton barracking parents.

I fall into the latter category. My parents are mad Geelong fans.
Thankfully, my cousins who i used to play with when i was little used took me to Carlton games when i would visit them on weekends.

I passed on that Carlton want to a seperate cousin of mine who was came from a family of mad 'bloods' (Sydney) supporters.

My wife also defected from her dad who was a kangas supporter, now a saint.

I am worried that with so much defection in my family that my son will follow suit.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Membership 2017
Cue kruddlers 'membership numbers mean nothing' rant...

Firstly....interstate clubs are on a different level to vic clubs. 2 teams to choose from, easy to split a city in half and get more members that way. Even easier with smaller stadiums that pack out from members alone. Thus, you need to be a member to get a seat.

Secondly...membership numbers are NOT a true reflection of a clubs strength. Revenue from membership is a better example. Again, interstate clubs need to be treated a little different to Vic based ones as the demand is higher - spread across fewer teams. However, for Vic teams, clubs get inflated numbers from selling cheaper memberships.

Overall you are comparing apples with oranges. Stress less.

I wouldn't mind seeing the clubs financial reports for this season to see how well/poor we really did in this regard. As mentioned previously, i think we inflated our membership figure this season but didn't make a relative amount of money to support the inflation.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: A List with Real Potential
Thanks for the bucket.

Too many labels and numbers, Charlie is a forward there is no need to put a number on it. A half forward line of C.Curnow McKay and J.Silvagni is great, have the two flanks push up to the wing then run back to forward 50, Jack is more of a set it up forward, Charlie is a target forward and buckets McKay is a massive target forward. Add to that Pickett, SPS, Murphy, Wright etc and we have a solid makings of a forward line. Add a Kerr and or Ben Silvagni and we have depth, versatility and potential to be anything.

You mentioned 9 names.
One of them was our captain and premium midfielder. Yes, spend some time forward, but 90% of it in the guts.

Of the other actual 8 we have...
Wright - delisted by adelaide, won our goalkicking with a meager 22 goals. Played 116 games and a known quantity who will be solid without being outstanding. Lock him in.

From the other 7, we have
- 2 players who have played a total of 14 games between them Curnow (6) Silvagni (8)
- 4 players who have yet to actually play a game Pickett, McKay, SPS, Kerr
- 1 player who isn't even on our list yet.

So 7 players with an average of 2 games between them.

Now, plenty of potential amongst them.....but guaranteed nothing.

Don't you think all this talk of depth is a bit premature??

We counted our chickens with KP stock when we recruited Watson, McCarthy, Mitchell etc too  :-[

My little bot was about 6hrs old when I signed him up  ;D
His membership certificate showed up before he left the hospital, have a picture of him as a 1 week old, in the hospital crib with his CFC beanie on and membership cert where the name tag usually sits.

I signed mine up within hours of being home. I just didn't get home until he was 2 days old!

FWIW, my membership turned up today. Neat little package. I forgot that you had the option of 2GA tix this year instead of your beanie/hat/scarf option. I chose the tix, and they arrived with it - a plastic guard with 'admit 1 GA' on them. Pretty cool.

Again I don't understand the negative posts here. For the posts complaining about a lack of forward drafting, we took three tall forwards last season. If one more person say Charlie Curnow is a midfielder i'll lose my sh1t. He moves like a forward, marks and kicks like a forward and has never played midfield in his footy career. He was going to play midfield in his last season at U18's but got injured.

*Hands raydan a bucket*

Curnowfides, is a curnow. Curnows run. Both Ed, and their sister (whose name escapes me at present) are freak athletes who run.

N. Riewoldt can outdo most mids with his running ability. He has rarely been played as a FF because to do so would waste his running ability.

Putting Curnowfides at FF is a waste.
Having him at CHF is a better option. However, i prefer him to play on a wing. N. Riewoldt has moved to a wing in the twilight of his career and is causing headaches. Richo moved to the wing in the twilight of his career and caused havoc too. One of the best games Jarrad Waite played in navy blue was when we moved him onto the wing to try and quell a rampaging Richo. He matched and beat him kicking 3 goals IIRC and the tigers had no answer for him....like most didn't with Richo.

I see Charlie more like an Everitt type. Plays better as a running player rather than a key target.

If we choose to play him forward, i don't want it to be as a key forward. SOSOS has limited options as to where he plays, but has 3rd forward nailed. Do we want Curnow to be a 4th? I'd prefer him on a wing.

Hamilton again proves himself to be an ar5ewipe!

Thankfully he didn't cause an incident in trying to back up Rosberg into the field.

Not sure why you chose to bring up that quote in isolation.

FWIW, i don't like Lewis. But in that instance, (whatever it was i can't recall now) i didn't think he was at fault.

I don't agree with what Lewis did, but i can understand why he did it.

Either...
a) Help your teammate and take out all hope of winning the championship for yourself.
b) Force your teammate to work for the championship by backing him up. If he's good enough, he wins. If not, you win.

Not a good position to be in.
