Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2024 Rd 4 Carlton vs Port Melbourne at Carlton
Like seeing Monahan named on the half back... he'll learn more there.

You can’t give much credence to that line up; Jaxon Binns FB, Alex Mirkov CHB, Hudson O’Keeffe C, etc.  I suspect it’s just the team list assigned positions at random.

I don’t mind Monahan deviating from the Irishmen are HBFers model.  He shows a bit of flair as a forward and I’d persist with him there.  An occasional run in the midfield and a defensive role at the end of quarters should round out his development.

I like how we can cobble together a decent side still.

Just for comparison the ins and outs for this week's game compared to when we knocked off the Pies last year in Round 20:
OUT
Cerra
Docherty
McGovern
Saad
Dow
Marchbank
Martin
Motlop
Cunningham
Cincotta
Fogarty
In
Walsh
E.Hollands
Z.Williams
H.McKay
L.Cowan
L.Young
Fantasia
Boyd
Carroll
Durdin
Kennedy

Yes, it seems that we have finally built up some decent depth ... but is it enough to knock off the best team in the comp?

Quietly confident  :)

Being named an emergency is sometimes a bit like a 'participation certificate'. :D
It's a reward for effort and it sends the message that "you're not too far away"
If we have to make a late change it's a pretty fair bet it won't be O'Keefe coming in....most likely it will be Cincotta, if he's fit.

O’Keeffe may have been named because Pitto or De Koning has a niggle.

Cincotta was “managed” last round but the Magoos are playing on Sunday and he won’t miss two games if he is the emergency.

The sub may get to back up on Sunday too.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Where is Sam Durdin ?
Lemmey's a project.
A work in progress...He was OK last week in defence, but there is a big jump from a 'try' in defence and a full game at AFL level.
If Young's not selected that will set the rumour mill off again ::)

Sam is on the list to provide injury cover.  Harry is on the list because he has potential.  The club has decided that Harry should play as a defender if he is going to realise that potential.  That puts him ahead of Sam.

Of course, that's just speculation on my part ... Sam could have tweaked a hammy  ::)

Telehealth consultation and an e-script for anti-viral drugs.  Old farts are a high risk category!

The doc said that it’s quite common for COVID sufferers to get significantly worse after five days, even with mild symptoms. 😳

Ms DJC's surgery has been postponed for a couple of weeks.

We have to condition ourselves to there being less contact in the sport. Crouch didn't have to do that.

That's the way Crouch was taught to go for a ground ball.  If Carroll had learnt the same technique, there would have been no head contact.

I agree that the game has to evolve to minimise head knocks but part of that evolution is a return to good technique and the elimination of foolhardy play encouraged by the rules as they are interpreted now.  If two players went for the ball as Carroll did, it would have resulted in a head clash.

I just watched the footage of Crouch cleaning up Carroll.  Crouch’s attack on the footy was perfect with his body turned to protect his head while gathering the ball.  Carroll, on the other hand, led with his head and was always going to get collected.

The free was there but there is an argument that Carroll ducked into it.

Bot should study that footage and learn how to protect himself in that situation.

Thanks for the positive wishes!

Ms DJC is having her second knee replacement, provided she doesn't test positive tomorrow.

So far my symptoms are like a mild cold ...

They kicked 16-4 which is crazy accurate.
The 2 weeks prior they scored 8-15 and 4-10.

Yes, but as other posters have mentioned, they had nine shots from directly in front and within 40 metres.  That accounted for eight goals and one behind.  The ease with which they hit targets and were paid frees directly in front or on slight angles is damning.

At the other end, we scored two behinds from shots taken within 10 metres 🙄
