Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 21: Richmond v Carlton (Pre-game Prayers)
Nothing surer than a win this week.  They got their bogey win against us they have made finals and dont need the win.  We now have nothing to play for on saturday, and the tigers are going to crow early about their finals fortunes.  It all adds up to us winning this week.  No Chris Judd.  I can see the Tiggies getting ahead of themselves, and failing to rise to the occasion.  They are a bit mind stuffed when they face us, and if we get the jump on them early will go into their shells and fail to respond.
Thry me old mate, you are unfortunately describing what Carlton would do (ie steal defeat from the jaws of victory). Richmond will put us to the sword and will well.

Yep.  Looking squarely at us, and us alone we will win this game.  We are so predictable in when we pick and choose which games we rock up to play its not funny.  We still have the wood on these guys.  One coughing and spluttering almost win is not the panacea to a decade of dishing out losses to these bozos.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The Season Over Thread
Forgive me if this is inaccurate, but isnt Mclean and Sewell a similar type, and isnt Cachia and Curnow on that sort of level as well?

The only reason I like the idea of bringing in Sewell is the way he might be able to help prop us up, but even so, is he coming here to earn an easier game making him counter productive to what we want to achieve?

I think its important that we only bring in someone who will earn their spot which means a recycled retread from another side that is currently not getting a look in because the club culture is divisive and is not part of the in crowd.  So in essence, Shaun Grigg...

We would have to look at Melbourne, GWS, Gold Coast and perhaps Collingwood for those purposes, but until we fix our culture, even that will be a waste of time.  Its a right pickle to be in.  I think Richmond got it right when they chose the route they chose a few years ago.  Just went a big cull to the list, stuck with quality people and kept churning over the list until they got the right mix of players.

We had the prime example of player in Chris Judd to do this, and sat on our eggs...  Might have cost us in the end.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rnd 20- Carlton v Bulldogs -Post Match Autopsy
Where is the pride in themselves? I dont for one moment care whether or not they care about the club or jumper, but shouldnt they have a little more pride in themselves as a group?  Wayne Harms is an unabashed Tigers supporter and lost all connection with Carlton as soon as he stopped playing for us but he had the mental fortitude and pride in himself and his teamates to put it all on the line when he played for us.

Ill take that.

Patience guys.  One thing Mick is good at is making sure players are ready when they come in.

Andy Mac has proven that he is a useful addition, and will play more often than not.

Graham will get his chance eventually.  We are too eager to baptise players by fire, when you can easily burn them if not careful.  They need to earn their stripes in more ways that just wracking up touches for the Northern Blues.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Marc Murphy launches a defence of his season and vows to break free of tags
On a different tact, assuming that Murph is not fit enough to run out four quarters, but given he still wracked up 13 touches and was effectively minding Crowley, is that a bit of a win for us?

If a tagger is going to Murphy when he cant really contribute, lets assume for a moment, Murphy didnt come up.  Crowley sits on Judd instead (assumption) and we struggle even more, unless someone steps up in a big way (Lucas? Graham?).

It seems to me, that Murphy wearing the tag, without being able to beat his opponent might still have given us a valuable contribution.  I know Im happier with Juddy running around without an opponent.

If Lyon's intentions were to have Crowley get 30 touches, then I guess you can look at it that way but I doubt Lyon had any such delusions. Crowley's job would have been to stop Murphy getting the pill and that's exactly what happened.

I guess the other side of the coin is if MM wanted Murphy to stop Crowley getting the ball and sacrifice his own game. If that was the case, I'd wonder if the coach has lost the plot ;-)

Not exactly.  I think you missed what i meant.  If Murphy doesnt play, Crowley would shift to a different midfielder.  I chose Judd because he is the next logical choice.  So Judd gets the Crowley treatment instead, and might fare better in this battle due to his relative fitness, but we lose more elsewhere than we make up here.

Ok if he's Injured then be needs to sit out. But in saying that he must play this week and use it to finally show his taggers that he won't take any sh1t anymore.
So the first person that gives him a cheapy to the mid section, he should turn around and Barry hall them. Give himself 4-5 weeks suspension but show the footy world that he ain't gonna take sh1t anymore from anyone. Show everyone u can be a loose cannon if pushed too far and it might make them think twice about taking cheap shots at u throughout games. I know if it was me, id make an example of someone and land a good four or five on their chin and then take a holiday.
Make a stand Marc and then have a rest. Come back next year fit and fresh. This season is done.

As much as this sounds like a good idea, its probably not.  Its a sure fire way to guarantee he gets extra attention because he might lose focus.  The only way to beat a tagger, is to run them into the ground, and put in a good performance despite the attention.

Anything else just gives them a win.  Unfortunately there is no easy way to beat a tagger except to reinforce that its going to be a very difficult time to be a tagger and run with me.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Marc Murphy launches a defence of his season and vows to break free of tags
so why isnt graham playing?

Its Malthouses way to protect the player from a baptism of fire so to speak.

Something that pretty much our entire list has had to do, except for our most recent couple of draft periods.

It will at least ensure that they are fit enough, durable, reliable and most importantly can play their role to a tee.  Its also why we look at some clubs, and we state, they have "found another one" pretty much every time they bring in a new player.

I have looked at Collingwood's "debutants" over the last few years, and unless they are drafted as "ready made" AFL players that acclimatise quickly, they always come in through the VFL with the Pies and play no more than about 10 games in their first couple of seasons at the club, and most of those are towards the end of those two years.

Its something that we stated we could only start doing about 1.5 years ago.

I think back to Jeffy and Mitch when they first started.  Played thier first 3 games at high level intensity and suffered a burnout of sorts and then got dropped.  This seems to have occurred with a few of our players, and in most cases they have come back a bit "fragile".  They will get their chances.

Im confident that guys wont just be given matches for the sake of getting games into them, but to ensure that the experience is a good one.  Something that we have not been able to do over the last little bit of the journey.

Just on this, it sort of contradicts what MM has had to say does it not? MM told him to toughen up and two days later he's come out saying he's got a bung knee?

Perhaps, but I have been to two of the open training sessions this season (the most recent one was less than four weeks ago) and that day I did not sight Marc Murphy, Andrew Carrazzo, nor Chris Judd training with the main group.  Most of the others were there.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Chris Yarran has gone backwards.
I have heard whispers from people who know family of Murph.  All is not right down at Carlton.  Thing is, the playing group is turning on itself because they are behaving as they always behave.  Misbehave and sack the coach.  The unfortunate thing they dont know?  Mick is there, and he is there to stay.  You dont walk the line, you can walk out the door.  Starting with the most talented one of all.

Murphy? Absolutely zero chance he is going anywhere.

No I dont believe he is going anywhere.

I have heard whispers from people who know his family.  About the playing group.  The starting with the most talented one of all, is me being a little bit facetious regarding people labelling Chris Yarran the most talented.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Chris Yarran has gone backwards.
It was wrong to make him sub, yes a mistake by Mick.  Mick has frrkd this one up as much as many wont accept it.

You missed it.   I will give you another chance.

Goat.    How do you think the top clubs would have dealt with Yarrans behaviour?

At Sydney he would have been dropped, and the playing group would have supported it in fact they may even have driven it.  The message gets in faster because everyone is saying the same thing.

At Carlton, he became a sub, and almost overnight we lost Jeff, and Eddie's form to go with it, and correct me if Im wrong, but Andrew Walker has not reach the lofty heights he set earlier on either.  Our club is run by the players.  The Carlton world urinates in their pockets, and they get away with what they like.

See I saw Yarran in the change rooms after the game, he could hardly walk and his lower leg was iced to the max. Does he qualify for some leeway as well? Pretty sure everyone just wrote it off and said stiff sht, you take the field it's bad luck.

With regards to murphy's supposed ankle problem from the Saints game, he had 4 weeks off I'm sure that would've healed it.

Fair enough, but what does me believing Murphy is not 100% have to do with Yarran?

For anyone else, if they are not ready to play, then dont play.  I couldnt care who your name is, if you declare yourself fit, and give me nothing, then there is hell to pay, and perhaps this is why Malthouse mentioned him post press conference in amongst Eddie, Jeff and Yarran.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 20: Carlton V Bulldogs (Pre-Game)
Sorry, in my opinion, Murphy is not fit, and shouldnt be playing.  I decided this whilst watching him "run" against Freo.

There is more than one reason why he had such a bad game, and Crowley is only part of the equation.  When a player like Murphy is limping around the field for more than half the game, there is a problem.  I suspect it has been one for him since before we played Port Adelaide too.
