Just watched BBs media conference, I know some might not agree but I reckon the bloke is a class act considering where we find ourselves... loved his gags about cliches, and why we relented and are playing H.
What else can he say other than what he said??!! The bloke is having to be the face for mass list turnover, unreasonable numbers of injured blokes, too many inexperienced blokes taking the field through necessity, flop recruits from other clubs and a marketing dept. Phew.
I think I feel better about the whole shemozzle we presently find ourselves in because I've dropped all expectation for 2018. Now all I want to see is effort. Fair dinkum pressure. Blooding, gradually, kids. Further improvement in recruits of the previous 2 years. And some anti-social ruthlessness which we showed in BBs first 2 years.
And Judge, McKay, SOS... about time you blokes took some of the heat as well rather than leaving it all to the coach and Juddy. How about you 3 showing some ticker and start speaking up (with conviction) re our situation and demonstrating some ridgy didge support for the senior coach/players. No time for wimps skulking around in the shadows... never was a strong, united and forceful message more needed than right fkn now from you three. So get off your flabby @rses and let the football world know how 'Bound By Blue' the club is, DEMONSTRATE it by confronting the media yourselves ...at least we'll then know that 'BBB' is more than a glib marketing slogan.
You’re right about it being time for the club heavyweights to step up. Juddy did his bit but it would be good to get some reinforcement from the Judge and co.
David Teague’s performance while miked up at training was interesting. It gave me the impression that everything is proceeding as expected. I particularly liked his banter with Harry about the contest with brother Ben.
Firstly, I'm no fan of basketball, as a professional sport it's a game designed around advertising.
I've heard some rumors about this seasons junior finals series that are outrageous, the refs seem to have lost the plot.
I think I posted about one such incident a few weeks back in which an Unders team ended up with just 2 players on the court before half-time after a series of crazy technical fouls being called by refs on children as young as 11. Some of the kids were asked to leave the stadium due to repeat technical fouls, fouls that most adult players would struggle to understand and you would need a video replay to analyse!
In one incident a coach was fouled/banned from the stadium because after having only two players left he pulled his U12 team off the court! The refs expected his team to continue a grand final with only two players, no bench and no coach!
I suspect someone high up has had their kid spurned by BV and is seeking technical revenge across the entire competition because it seems like a system wide fever has hit the referees!
That is fanciful LP.
In this case it wasn’t a final, there were no technical fouls, both teams finished with all their players and the officials, by virtue of their ages, have no children spurned by BV. In fact, BV has very little to do with junior basketball, apart from setting the rules framework that the officials were trying to implement.
It’s probably relevant that the officials were women - actually two women and a girl. I suspect that Honey would have been more circumspect if my 200cm son was reffing.
Agree Lods. The MC are human, and will stuff it up from time to time. But surely not week after week after week ? I'm sure they know enough about football to see what we see, plus a whole lot more.
And that, my friend, is why they are the match committee and we are restricted to expressing opinions on a footy forum
The CEO of Basketball Victoria has been punished for an altercation with at least one referee at his daughter’s under-12s game at Box Hill.
3AW’s Rumour File has confirmed a tribunal found Nick Honey guilty of bringing the game into disrepute, gross breach of code, and avoidable contact with an official.
He has been ordered to serve an eight-week ban for the incident in February and remains CEO while serving his suspensio
I know one of the officials who was abused and manhandled by Honey and his behaviour during the incident and at the tribunal hearing was unacceptable for anyone, let alone the CEO of BV.
It seems that information about the tribunal decision has not been published as normally happens with basketball tribunal matters but the faeces has now hit the fan.
I don't know what Cuningham did wrong. His first half last week wasn't bad at all. He offered nothing on the forward line, but it did have to get there.
I agree, Cuningham wasn’t our worst by a long shot.
I guess it’s an opportunity for Phillips and McKay ... and it’s interesting that Kerr is named as an emergency. I guess that reflects Fraser’s assessment of his efforts with the NBs.
I really don’t understand how umpires determine free kicks. What happens at one end of the ground is a free and the same thing at the other end is play on or a ball up.
Not that it would make a huge difference to the result but it would be a closer contest.
Kerr was 194cm last time I looked and with sufficient leap to ruck in the VFL, he is also the most powerful player for his size we have at VFL level.
Yes, and from what I’ve seen of him, young Patrick is a natural footballer who seems to instinctively get to the right spots. A match up between him and Ben would be interesting ... but perhaps not as entertaining as Harry vs Ben. I can envisage those two resorting to fisticuffs ?
Personally, I think it would have been better for us if SoJ played VFL and Ben went to SoJ, that would tell us more about the future than the other match ups.
Do you really think that a 200cm CHB would play on a 190cm medium forward?
I guess that would tell us that Ben is better in the air and SOJ is better when the ball hits the ground
Ben vs Harry/Kerr should be informative, provided there’s good supply into the forward 50.
Height is only a variable. My 'argument' has been simplified to too many talls.
In reality, the argument is generally that the opposition have too many quick smalls. A subtle difference. One that highlights the fact that some of our talls, specifically Weitering, cannot mind one of the many smalls that we often come up against....and even some of the quicker talls. Basically, we usually need more 'small forward minders' in our side.
Weiterings lack of acceleration, speed and agility is more of a factor than his height and i have stressed that previously.
FWIW, this week i think the matchups work a bit better for Weitering. Would still have preferred Marchbank in the side instead of Oshea. Which BTW is listed as 197, not 193 as quoted earlier. Meaning his matchup with Atley has 8cm difference, which in itself isn't a huge issue, but almost always means that Atley will be quicker and more agile as a result. I know Oshea can play smaller than his size suggests, but have not had a look at that under the microscope of AFL footy much as yet.
O’Shea’s height is listed as 193cm on the club website, FootyWire, Wikipedia and in an article about his delisting by Port. However, I have seen the erroneous 197cm height mentioned from time to time.
Oppositions having too many quick smalls isn’t a problem for the defence, it’s all over the ground. Perhaps one of our most telling problems is the lack of a small forward able to run down defenders and win free kicks inside 50. Our lack of pace in the midfield enables opposition players to run through the corridor and deliver to their forwards’ advantage. The height/speed of our defenders is largely irrelevant when the ball comes in so quickly ... and it usually happens as a result of a shallow, misdirected forward 50 entry.
I’m not convinced that our defence is too tall/slow but there are other issues, such as lack of experienced midfielders (I didn’t think we’d miss Gibbs as much), that are more critical.
WTF are you on LP? Perhaps you'd like to suggest that to Levi in person. Of course, he is a very well balanced young man and would probably excuse your comments as the ravings of a troubled soul.
Two of my work colleagues underwent gender re-assignment and, based on their experiences, it's not something you would undergo just to have a more successful sporting career.
The fact of the matter is that gender is not binary but, like most things, is a gradation from one extreme to the other. Those folk who fall in the middle, and who are wrongly categorised by doctors, family and/or physical appearance have every right to take whatever steps are necessary to correct nature's errors.
It's interesting that Caster Semenya is embraced by South Africans who can see beyond the physical manifestations of hyperandrogenism. As Semenya explains, they call their approach "humanity".
We need to get a grip, Collingwood played well and kicked as straight as it's possible to kick and we lost by 4 goals, Matty Wright played his worst game for the club, we had a couple of kids playing their first few games and we lost Marchbank before half time. Losing sucks but it's only round three, we'll come good sooner rather than later. I haven't seen any signs of disharmony in the playing group and I take no notice of rumours.
Can you remind me who took the F50 rucks while Levi was struggling without backup on the last line of defence with Lynch?
I really don't know what you're on about LP
Blokes who nominated to contest ruck contests (absolutely stupid rule) included Thomas, Charlie Curnow, O'Shea and (I think) Samo when Levi was having a spell. And of course, Jones had a go in the ruck in the last quarter but didn't manage to get his hand near the ball.
