Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Aussies aren't into meat!
I like my Scotch Fillet well done.......in fact I like all my meat well cooked, blood free and dead before I eat it.........I'll give you my details for the $30 you are giving me ;)

Each to their own EB1.

My mum was the same, she was old world and grew up eating well done because that was the safest option. I suppose a lot of people who grew up in the war years also had a similar position. Not that you can't enjoy it for other reasons.

Got to be very careful about what you read, a lot of these stories are deliberately highlighted for political purposes.

I was in a location a while back that was being reported on Melbourne news as being in lock down due to rioting locals. My missus called worried by the news because she knew I was close to the site, in fact I could look out my hotel window right at the central park which was supposed to be a riot zone. I saw blue skies, green grass and people walking their dogs! ;)

I have no idea where the footage reported in Melbourne came from but it wasn't from where they reported. It's no accident those stories were being run at the same time the local media were pushing the anti-immigration angle.

Stop it. We have similar tastes LP. The salad I like best is simply tomatoes, chopped red onions and olive oil. If the rib eye is of extra good quality, a nice Brunello di Montalcino is warranted.

I wasn't a big fan of Italian red, but I had a few nice Barolo, Novello or Chianti on a recent trip to Novara. As long as the Barolo has been allowed to rest for a few years I find it as good as an equivalently priced Burgundy.

I like a thick cut Rib Eye cooked like this, pre-heat coals in a kamado style grill, allow the kamado to get very hot and for the coals to burn well down, take some room temperature rib eyes and flash cook them in the kamado. Rare might be as quick as 2 or 3 mins, medium-rare 4 - 5, buggered is pretty much anytime much longer than about 5 - 6 mins. Let them rest for 15-20 mins in a very low temp warm oven.

I have no idea way the kamado grills cook steak so well, there is a clear difference between them and any hooded barbecue whether charcoal or gas.

PS; If anybody asks for medium or well done give them $20 and directions to the nearest pizza shop, and another $10 to make up some goon juice!

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Another School Shooting in the US
One farmer found it very coincidental that he was robbed of his firearms shortly after a routine inspection. This is the type of stuff I am really concerned about.

I've heard that Vicpol is keeping the theft of firearms quiet as they search for the culprits.

I'd also heard a rumor a while back that there is a possibility that the licensing database had been hacked but that the claim is the data is/was encrypted. Maybe it has been hacked and the data is wide open! :o If true then the problem isn't some bunch of immigrant kids, it has to be organised.

There are some rumors floating around about "Eastern European" types, I'm reading this as Russian organised crime, recruiting drug addicted teenagers some of which will be African immigrants.

Not quite right LP; ammunition must be stored separately but there is no requirement to render firearms inoperable.  Inspections are conducted regularly and there is no discretion if the security requirements aren't followed; the shooter's licence is cancelled and firearms confiscated on the spot.

As for people arming themselves, there's never been a safer time to live in Victoria and, as my defence tactics instructor was fond of saying, if you arm yourself, it's likely that the baddies will take your weapon and use it against you.

Cheers DJC, it's a long long time since I looked into all this stuff, more than 20 years.

This unsafe perception is caused by the media and social media, it should be made accountable for reporting untruths or selective reporting. The statistics are pretty clear that crime in general is down despite the media sensationalism.

Ladies Lounge / Re: AFLW Votes - Round 4 vs Western Bulldogs
Which hosking LP?

I'm assuming Sarah as that is who everyone else voted for. Personally i didn't give either votes, but both would've been in the top 6.

Sorry, S. Hosking.

It's a big problem, you can see one of them in play but if you don't see the numbers you can easily attribute good segments to the other. I think this leaves viewers thinking one is better than the other, thankfully the shoulder tape and hairstyles are a giveaway if you have time to go back to a replay. I've noticed that callers have just started calling "Hosking"!

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Another School Shooting in the US
People will start arming themselves here with all the crime we have had in the last couple of years.

Really???

Are they going to buy them legitimately on the black-market, because it's not so easy to be a licensed shooter anymore?

Legitimately you have to have gun safes separating firing mechanisms and ammunition from the barrel. You also have to submit to regular inspections from the police, not that I've heard anyone getting inspected but once you have weapons on-site they are permitted to do so.

Illegitimately I've heard that the typical black-market price of a gun started beyond $50k, and you basically have to unambiguously identify yourself to very undesirable types who trade in such weapons! That's a very high price to pay, and I've also heard some of those recent home invasions are to get hold of weapons(legit or illegal) for use in crime! :o

So getting rid of guns might discourage some of those home invasions, and if they are robbers it would be cheaper just to get robbed!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: SpecialK the new Rowe!
Why would we mess with Kruezer who had a great season in the ruck and was in the AA squad......?
Going to be a very slow lineup with three ruckman in your starting 22, one of Lobbes problems at Port was he couldnt play other positions
and Trengove was preferred to him....

Really makes you wonder why we drafted Lobbe doesn't it, on top of De Koning and McKay, if Lobbe is not being set for the 1st ruck in the short term then what is he good for?

If we assume Lobbe is not a KPP of sorts, and he is being set for the 1st ruck, then Kreuzer..............?

Is all this SpecialK to push forward for more goals just a smokescreen, because it seems we've tried it all before!

Anyway, it's just an interesting rumor that seems worthwhile discussing.

PS; Could we find that experiences in the backline will eventually make Jones a much better KPF? What we had hoped for Weitering, or could we be again looking at Weitering spending more time forward. I see either as a potential Harry Taylor type, capable of pinch hitting up forward.

Robert Heatley Stand / SpecialK the new Rowe!
Interesting rumors floating around that we are looking at a starting line-up with Kreuzer, Lobbe and Casboult all playing.

Add Jones and McKay to that mix as all of a sudden we look like a basketball team, even with out the other KPPs.

Could the club be setting up to play SpecialK as the CHB alone side Jones?

We know SpecialK has the endurance and strength, does he still have the mobility and speed he needs to close in on marking contests?

Team E

3 Arnell
2 S. Hosking
1 Gay

I suppose a night like that highlights when the 3,2,1 doesn't work, although it's really the only option for the AFLW.

It probably would have been Arnell 15 in the AFL season.

Blah-Blah Bar / Aussies aren't into meat!
Interesting to read comments from Woolworths claiming Australian's are eating less red meat.

I'd gather pretty comprehensive research before an executive would make such a sweeping statement.

But I wonder how many other families are like my family, and have stopped buying cheap carbon monoxide, nitrogenated and water filled supermarket meats and fish because they are rubbish!

We've gone back to the local specialist for most of our protein needs, meat from the butcher and fish from the monger. We have taken a position of quality over quantity, the stuff is just too expensive to be served rubbish. The quality difference, flavour and texture improvement was immediately noticeable, I must admit to my embarrassment I had become accustomed to the flavourless meat coming from the supermarket!  :-[

The irony is, the local supermarkets have recently "heavily encourage" food standards Australia to give all the local competing butchers and fishmongers utter buggery!

I wonder who pays for the inspector's groceries? ;)

Anyway, we'll continue supporting the local traders, bacon that is smoked and not chemically cured, wrapped around scallops that are shucked and not cookie cut!

There is something incredibly satisfying about have a small quantity, just enough not too much, of something that is really good! ;D
