It has been confirmed, Simpson will not be playing. Lang is in.
I consider that a huge out and a major disadvantage to us.

We are being beaten outside at the moment. They have over double the uncontested possessions, 10 to 23.

Sad thing , we are the worse scoring side in the league for years, we are playing the second bottom side and our 3 forward hopes Mackay, Kerr & Levi, all can't get a game, it's an indication of where we really are

Indeed.
This game is NOT high scoring one so far: 15 minutes and 1 goal each.

No, an indication of crape team selection. Hasn't been alot wrong with our key forwards, until Levi got injured and lost form. Lately, together with Charlie, they seem the only ones who can score. Pity we didn't pick any of them other than Charlie.

Local predict rain, so later it might not be a talls game, but if true why the two rucks?

Our MC is a mystery wrapped in an enigma!

Maybe not 'crap', but certainly questionable.

Jack Silvagni is the only one on either team not to have a possession yet. We lead by 3 points.

8 Possessions to Matthew Kennedy, 6 to Marchbank and 6 to Lang. Trying to make an early point? I don't know. But I wish I could see the SPS goal!  :)

Goal to them. 11 inside 50's to 6.

Too predictable going forward, often Charlie has two or three on him and yet we kick it on his head.

FFS Carlton, over coached bullcrap football as usual, not an independent thought among them!

We are 23 possessions behind, but lead the inside 50's 15 to 7. We won the contested football easily, but the uncontested ball has gone their way. 73% of the time the ball was in our forward half, yet we have 2 goals to show for it. Very frustrating.

Please Bolton, abandon the zone defence that pushes up the ground and leaves the opposition to run through it and break to goal faster than than we man up.

Keep it simple and just play tight accountable defence, maybe with a loose player back.

We cannot go on with defensive tactics that don't work.

Another embarrassing effort at every level - selection, game plan, and execution. We are non competitive against a bottom side. 11 scoring shots to 1 rushed behind for the quarter.

How long do we keep have to watching this tripe? It's just sickening to think how far away we are from even being competitive week to week. At what point does something have to change?????

We are 53 possessions behind and down in just about every stat. The players who were decent early have dropped out of the game.
If Phillips is done for the day, and probably the season it is embarrassing as he is not a smallest possessions getter! There are 6 players who are equal or less!
That is just not good enough! There are no excuses for this non-effort!

Lang had 2 possessions that quarter, for example. Pickett had NONE! Not a single touch!

Being intimidated by Brisbane, pushed around by their players and we appear to have given up running as we are now just being run off our feet, even Zorko who was out of the game is now back in it and Beams has just run around unopposed all game.
Can anyone play on Hodge?...just for 15 mins to stop him getting easy kicks...
Its not like Brisbane are any good either......

Graham, Polson and Obrien are VFL standard only.....Lang cant be bothered...

Agree.

This game was absolutely f’ing winnable!

Sick of watching this crap - we cannot possibly have too many crap players, something else stinks!

What the f does Lang give us? Lambs stupid dinky handball that then put his teammate under pressure and sure enough there’s a turnover and they get a shot on goal.

How the f does one team have so many players with crap skils!? What is going on?!

Don’t give me talk about the heat ffs

If we go heavy in the draft again why would Cripps stay, it'll be 3 or 4 years before he sees any benefit, his career will be half over?

SEN reporting for 2018 the Lions are +21pts  in 2nd halfs, we are -200 -213pts.

We dont have the talent...the 3 drafts of the rebuild hasnt given us what we need to be competitive......Cripps needs to see we have some better kids...you look at Obrien for example.....wrong choice the kid is a bust IMO.

It is simply embarrassing. Not even in the Pagan Days were we this ... spiritless, and we got pounded far too regularly. There is actual talent out there, but they are not performing. Not performing for themselves, not performing for their team mates, not even worrying about the club: this sort of non-effort is the sort that will destroy careers. And not just Andrew McKay.

I've been arguing this for some time.

Players don't recover from too much of this, they are damaged goods and need to leave our club before they can come good!

This accelerated smashing being good for players is bullcrap, ignore the spin!

What we did last year made sense, this year makes no sense at all! We've folded under AFL and membership pressure by trying to play a game plan that doesn't suit our situation.

When an opposition ruckmen runs circles around your small and medium mids in traffic you know you've got a problem.

Our mids and forwards do feck all, the defence are being swamped and there is no effort to press into defence by 2/3rds of our team! Compare that to Beams or Zorko saving goals on the last line!

Of our defenders only Weitering and Thomas are actually making an effort to get to the football, the rest are just spectators and finger pointers guarding turf!

Jones takes a thousand intercepts marks but does feck all else, he offers no support for team-mates, he is taking his craphouse F50 efforts and recreating them in D50!

Marchbank, first game back looks soft and unwilling to do the hard stuff.

Rowe is having a bad day, but he's being used like Inspector Gadget!

To all our players, but more specifically our mids, defenders and coaches; see the guys in that funny maroon uniform running past you towards goal? STAND NEXT TO ONE OF THEM!!!! Run with them, tackle them and above all DON’T LET THEM HAVE SPACE ALL ALONE IN FRONT OF GOAL!!!!!

That's coaching! Whan you decide to plan that zoning game plan in winnable game the players have no idea about then you get this results. Confusion and crap. coaching! Injuries or not, one win tells the story. down from 7 and 6.

We insist on standing 10m off our opponents at all times no matter what. Brisbane have kicked the ball well and simply cut us to pieces as a result.

Coach issue. Our drafting has been way better than it used to be. Every player we've picked in the last 3 years has shown ability. Just poorly drilled.

Spotlights on the drafting Jim...we lack talent, we cant compete with VFL standard players with poor skill levels....
Coaching is poor but SOS is under the pump IMO...GWS list hasnt lived up to the hype and our list rebuild looks like it either stalled or failed.....
The buck stops somewhere....I know we have injuries but we have no depth and a over reliance on two players....

We've no leg speed Jeza.

Our smalls and mids cannot keep up with play and cannot apply pressure to the ball carrier.  It leaves our tall defenders guessing about which way to go, so they have no choice but to stand in no-mans land between opposition forwards and hope the kick is not accurate! But with a lack of pressure on the ball carrier the kicks rarely miss the target!

When you see the Lions ball carrier pick off a target inside F50, and the tall defender arrive late, you need to look at who was applying pressure to the kicker! You won't see it on TV though as the camera follows the footy, and our mids and forwards aren't near the ball carrier! But their absence from the picture is the real tell!

Some blokes can do no wrong!

Lang lies on the ground while Rayner sprints away from our mids unhindered into F50 and hits a target!

Drafting I haven't minded. Most have sown something. You can go through them all and see that. SOS can only draft the talent. It's very much up to the coaches to get the most out of them and that is where we are failing. Bet if other clubs drafted those players they'd be doing alot better. Weitering just looks totally confused by what role he has to do, as would happen when you pick 4 key defenders. We're managing to stuff him right up. Like I said, if we had Dusty we could make him look a dud too.

Trading, that's another matter. Suppose our main targets Plowman, Marchbank and Kennedy now have been good, Phillips a nice pick up but we've had to take their rubbish as well to get those players cheap that has clogged up our list.

1st quarter tight and tough. Looked good.

Second quarter capitulated, one rushed behind scored only.  Obliterated.  Commentators kept crapping on about heat - it’s 23 degrees. They said it’s hunid. It’s less humid than normal.

No hard running or hard team work.  Stupid errors - I counted 5 kicks going into the man on the mark! 5!!!! That’s when I was playing proper attention to this crap show.

A lot of stupid turnovers from dinky handballs.

Cripps invisible.  Charlie doing ok.  Not noticing anyone else in even a semi positive light.

Disgraceful effort - Darcy Lang can f*ck right off right now. Pointless pick up. Another one.

We've picked better in the lower regions than we have for years. First 4 we picked last year I liked. Year before SPS, good first year, what is happening, maybe leave him forward as midfield isn't his go, Zac Fisher, Tom Williamson, pretty good, Kerr looks a forward, Macreadie has shown something but haven't seen enough of him, Polson, not so good. 2105, Weitering, same as SPS, why has he struggled after a great first year, maybe give him a proper role would help, Harry McKay has been ok, 2 goals a game, Charlie Curnow a superstar, Cunningham, ok i suppose but not sure, still waiting, SOS ok seeing he was cheap but another that wouldn't know his role

Hasn't been too bad considering. If a coach can't make something out of those lot though they shouldn't be coaching. Bet if they played up in Sydney they'd near all be good. That's the difference.
