I'd love to give Cripps and SPS more votes, but watching defenders at both ends mark cleanly while mids play with a cake of soap puts a slide on my spirits.

I was very frustrated on the weekend, even though I knew we played poorly in the wet. True to form, when it rained, we were rubbish. Our ball handling was awful. We dropped marks. We fumbled the ball, instead of moving it on cleanly. In the circumstances, we did pretty well. Even better had the last 2 goals not been paid.

Votes:
Not easy to vote this week with our poor ball handling. Things layers would normally go without a second thought didn’t come off because of them. Nor did enough contribute, the way they had been.

I may have named 11 players, but few of these played 4 quarters of football and they al made mistakes. However, it was these guys who got us close.

Explanations:
[2]   Liam Jones:   Totally obliterated Riewoldt. Nor was he rewarded for his good work by the umpire. Otherwise he might not have a damaged throat.
[2]   Patrick Cripps:   The least effective 37 possession game that Cripps has ever played. He knocked up getting the ball, but the fumbling was lethal
[2]   Dale Thomas:   A really strong game in the conditions. Held his opponents and had a lot of the ball.
[2]   Kade Simpson:   Like Daisy, Simmo was a warrior out there and kept finding the ball. His opponents did not.
[2]   Ed Curnow:   Very strong effort from Ed. He got a lot of the ball.
[1]   Matthew Kreuzer:   Won the ruck comfortably for 3 quarters, but tired in the last. However, our fumbles ruined his huge number of taps to advantage.
[1]   Marc Murphy:   Tried hard and helped us get back into the game after a horrendous start.
[1]   Sam Petrevski-Seton:   SPS’s skills were excellent in comparison to his team mates.
[1]   Jacob Weitering:   Well beat his opponent, but for frees.
[0.5]   Lachie Plowman:   Pretty good game. Even his kicking was not as bad as some of his mates.
[0.5]   Jack Silvagni:   Solid effort but kept getting the ball too far from goal.

Honourable Mentions:
Nick Newman:   Solid and dependable even under the pressure.
Sam Walsh:   His quietest game for the year, but still a solid contributor.
