Jim Park Voting: AFL Rd 5: Carlton vs St. Kilda

This Thursday night we play at Marvel, which means we'll be dry. We generally play worse than we do at the MCG.

Remember:
[1] 15 votes in total
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

We are on free to air, which is miraculous.

I can’t give any better for that effort. Too many players not getting the ball.
Votes:
[4]   Jack Martin
[4]   Liam Jones
[2]   Patrick Cripps
[1.5]   Sam Petrevski-Seton
[1]   Sam Docherty
[1]   Ed Curnow
[1]   Kade Simpson
[0.5]   Will Setterfield

Explanations:
[4]   Jack Martin:   Jack was probably our most dangerous player on the night, even though he was quieter after half time.
[4]   Liam Jones:   The best defender on the ground by lightyears. He took 11 marks and absolutely slaughtered his opponents.
[2]   Patrick Cripps:   Well down early, but superior after half time
[1.5]   Sam Petrevski-Seton:   Had the job on Butler and beat him. Butler got lucky twice.
[1]   Sam Docherty:   Not as his best, but he still ran hard and tried to provide the spark we needed.
[1]   Ed Curnow:   Good defensive job but struggled getting the ball tonight.
[1]   Kade Simpson:   Simmo deserved a mention.
[0.5]   Will Setterfield:   Setters had a good patch but couldn’t keep it going.

Honourable Mentions:
Michael Gibbons:   Tried hard but couldn’t get enough of the ball.
Jack Newnes:   Ordinary early, but he picked up well after half time.
Live Long and Prosper!

Team:   D+ Terrible display but even with so many players down we managed to scrape through with only a 3 goal deficit. How, I do not know.

Votes:
5 Martin - Clearly our best by a country mile
4 Jones - Bar 2 horrific cross goal passes was very solid and our best defender. At least with those passes he was trying to execute a switch attack to open up on the opposite side of the ground. Just can't execute. At least he went for his marks this week.
2 Cripps - Lowered his colours but still managed to do better than most of his team mates.
1 Docherty - Played OK considering the tag. If only he kicks that goal. That miss resulted in a 12 point turnaround. Deflating.
1 Curnow - Solid again. Just does his job.
1 Pittonet - Battled all night against a superior ruck, and I don't think he was as badly beaten as has been suggested
0.5 Setterfield - Cameo role and only gets a vote because he managed to kick 2 goals (our leading goal kicker). Just doesn't do enough
0.5 Newnes - Not nearly as bad as people suggest. If only he could improve on his disposal efficiency (no Robinson Crusoe there)

8: Martin....Fly was right, very good footballer
4: Jones....very solid marking after half time and did a fair job on Membrey.
1: Setterfield...for his two goals and he tried.
1: Gibbons...kept battling but needs to get more ball.
1: Weitering...King kicked a couple on him but he wasnt terrible like a few others.
Couldnt give Cripps a vote as his man was the most influential especially early and setup the win.
Not only did he beat Cripps he also got the footy and its an issue that Cripps doesnt mind a man.

I don't get the Simmo votes out of this game - I saw nothing but negatives. First major turnover/cough up of the game - set the tone.....

Zero tackles. Is he a defender or not?

Was he playing on anyone?

A great servant of our Club but would rather see a Stocker type get game time.
Finals, then 4 in a row!

Jones played very well but the two goals he gifted to St Kilda meant that I couldn’t give him a vote  :(
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball
