AFL 2024 Rd1:   Carlton vs Richmond

Rating:      B
We won, but we should have won by a lot more. We dominated large sections of the game, but failed t put in on the scoreboard.
Then again, Richmond did push us. They were highly motivated after their previous poor effort. But we didn’t just hold them off, we had a chance to really break them and we kept missing.

Votes:
[2.5]   Patrick Cripps
[2]   Mitch McGovern
[2]   Harry McKay
[1.5]   Adam Saad
[1.5]   Nic Newman
[1.5]   Tom de Koning
[1]   George Hewett
[0.5]   Jack Carroll
[0.5]   Brodie Kemp
[0.5]   Lewis Young
[0.5]   Blake Acres
[0.5]   Zac Williams
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow

Explanations:
[2.5]   Patrick Cripps:      A brilliant Captain’s game from Cripps, with 31 possessions, 7 tackles and 4 clearances.
[2]   Mitch McGovern:   An excellent game in defence from Mitch. He managed 26 possessions and 8 marks.
[2]   Harry McKay:      Dominated his position and kicked truly.
[1.5]   Adam Saad:      Another Saad game, getting a lot of the ball while his opponent does a lot of chasing.
[1.5]   Nic Newman:      24 possessions and 7 great tackles and kept his opponent on starvation rations.
[1.5]   Tom de Koning:   Held his own early, but got on top just before half time and through the last quarter. His work was high class when it was really necessary.
[1]   George Hewett:   Another solid game in the middle with 6 clearances.
[0.5]   Jack Carroll:      Another solid game in the middle, but he was caught out a few time for having no right foot.
[0.5]   Brodie Kemp:      A couple of errors, but an excellent game all up. Dominating in the air with 10 marks.
[0.5]   Lewis Young:      Kept his opponent to 2 goals, and they were dubious frees. 9 marks and showed more composure than he did last year.
[0.5]   Blake Acres:      Another solid game from Acres, in the right place at the right time.
[0.5]   Zac Williams:      A solid 2nd up effort from Williams.
[0.5]   Charlie Curnow:   `Charlie should have had 5 or 6, but he made a few terrible errors. Could have split the game open, he had his opponent beaten so often.

Honourable Mentions:
Matthew Owies:      Not a lot of the ball, but he made them count. Probably the most productive small forward on the ground.
Adam Cerra:         Not his best night, but he did good things at the right moments.
Matthew Kennedy:      Trying to do Jack Silvagni’s job, and doing it well enough.
Live Long and Prosper!
