Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Radio Memories
FM killed AM radio. The sound quality is not even a close comparison. AM is really only for the loyal folk who listened to these stations years ago. There are FM stations flogging some of the old bands, so the AM stations are losing listeners there too. The only AM station I still listen to from time to time is SEN 1116. Only for the footy during draft period.
FM hasn't killed AM - Melbourne's two biggest stations are 3AW (13.6) and 774 (10.7)...and that's the way it's been for decades.
Fox FM used to rate well before the clowns in Sydney changed everything behind the scenes. These days they rate 7.6, and the other FM stations are even less than that.
The generation that Fox FM tries to attract are more interested in listening to Spotify...they are dead in the water

The Sports Desk / Re: Stosur vs Sheik 2015
Anybody who can constantly play in the top 100 is a good player. Hewitt has done this for over a decade.
There are other very good players who have a taste of the circuit and walk away early for any number of reasons.
Every athlete has their ups and downs...but to send him out to pasture because he is not performing at an elite level all the time is harsh.
If you feel he is just doing it for the money and to make up numbers, the new hole in the training room wall might suggest otherwise...
To put this into perspective, he is excited that last year was the first time in memory he can play with no pain. Look at the way he walks - he is no longer pigeon toed due to strapping.
If he is happy to play at a reasonable level in his final years - without pain - why not let him!!

But, he takes the game seriously and while he can compete, he will...you are retired for a long time.
He is still highly regarded by the other players on the circuit (Federer is one of his biggest fans) and is not seen as an easy win.
And maybe he is playing for himself and not the armchair experts - is there really a problem with that?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Blockbusters 2015
During our time of under performance, new teams have arrived and a generation of new fans have chosen teams like St Kilda and Geelong - and Carlton are seen as the try hards...
Most people under 30 don't remember Carlton's powerhouse days. Those days are just something their Dads have banged on about over the years.
Glory days are over until this new breed of players start making names for themselves.
Waite, Robbo and Garlett etc weren't helping the cause...
Good luck Blues!!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pick your best 22 players
There are many names yet to pull on a Carlton jumper that would be pushing for a selection - more so than in recent seasons.
I wonder how much our votes will change by the end of the 2015 season...??

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: STOP!...
This divides the playing list so they don't play for each other or the jumper.

("No!")
Bravely ran away away.
("I didn't!")
When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
("no!")
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
("I didn't!")
And gallantly he chickened out.
****Bravely**** taking ("I never did!") to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
("all lies!")
Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Robin!
("I never!")
