I believe they made a promise to his dad at the time that they wouldn't play him no matter what happened that year.

That differs to what Bolton said in the pre-season this year...."There is no ceiling on what you can achieve this year. If that is to play senior football, then so be it"

Bolton also made it clear at the time that players weren't entitled to games.

He recently (on SOJ's debut) clarified his position on playing our youngsters:

Quote
“This is our draft class. We would like to play them, just like Jack did today.

“Provided they have got game time under them and are not at risk and their form is sound, we will have a look at them.”

That suggests that McKay and Cuningham will run around in the VFL for a while longer.  Hopefully, they will tick the boxes for a senior game before the end of the season.

IIRC - In J Waite's first season, he was the only player on the list who did not play a senior game - because he was not ready. That sort of judgement should apply here.

That was then, this is now. Not interested in 2002.

If he's showing something, which he is, 5 goals in 2 goals shows that, he'll benefit from a feel of senior footy and it's requirements to carry into the pre-season. Somewhere around rounds 21-23, what the hell have you got to lose at that time of the year, even if it's only one game.  He can only gain, surely, even if he doesn't get a kick. Nothing like a bit of experience and important for development. Be brainless not to give him a feel of AFL footy as things are currently. Not as if he's struggling at VFL level. Same goes for Cunningham. One game, whats the issue.

McKay should and will play senior footy. The problem right now is his aerobic capacity. Forwards must also act defensively these days and if he hasn't got the tank, we get exposed. Maybe another 2 games in the VFL and then he's in for the last 3 games.

Bloody good effort from the NBs, this mob has had the wood on us for a while now and when I say they have the wood on us... they've been pounding us! Yes, they might be a few blokes out but so have we.

Would have loved to have been there but busy in SpannerTown (Canberra) on work. Colder than a politicians promise here, but then Melbourne's not much better. (Really pretty driving in, Spanner).

Be interesting to see who comes in for Charlie... between Jaksch, Jones and Everitt. Bearing in mind we're up against the Dawks you might want someone with a little mongrel for the contest which would favour Jones. Of course McKay is a chance too... Gorringe?

You'd think that Whiley would be a monty for Kerridge even if Kerridge comes up okay.

Whileys main problem is what he does with the football at any level....at senior level he is too slow both physically and mentally...

Echoes of Sam Mitchell?

It's in his head, nothing more, nothing less.

Waite was a very long time ago. Barring injury McKay will play. Sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be surprised if he were in next week.

These are the highlights from today's game. Looking at these I would go with Jones. He really put in and did some nice things. I wouldn't be playing McKay yet.
Look for Hisham Kerbatieh's snap near the end of the video. THAT is the sort of thing we want to see in the seniors. It was why we recruited Gallucci: pity he played so little. I would rookie Kerbatieh. But that is me: our recruiters have had different opinions in the past. Caleb Daniel comes to mind..... :)

Why???  He's not ready!!  Play Jones before him or even Everitt that's why they are there.  To allow the kids to develop. He kick one of his goals from a contested mark, the others were gimmies.

2 gimmes yesterday win the game. Buddy had 3, but usually the smart hard working footballers get them... Coincidence?

Not at all. Good positioning is good football.

Bloody good effort from the NBs, this mob has had the wood on us for a while now and when I say they hav, they've had around a 10 goal turn around the wood on us... they've been pounding us! Yes, they might be a few blokes out but so have we.

I read somewhere that NB's were previously beaten by 10 goals.
Like our seniors (9 at least, but for a certain free to Phillips that was overlooked. Would have been 10 - AND we'd have drawn with a top side), there's been an incredible improvement against the respective sides. That's just incredible whichever way you look at it.

Jones was good; plenty of his trademark chest marks but some nice overhead marks too.

Sounds really promising, specially as our drafted forward stocks are jinxed this year and unlikely to get a good run at it. Just the same, we need the more experienced forwards to at least take the heat of the best defenders. What I've seen (limited) of the Jones boy, suggests his composure, marking, and kicking for goal is pretty solid. For mine, it's more his reading the play and resultant mistiming that needs developing, if that's possible. Whoever we bring in, Levi needs a hand. After young Charlie went down, he was back to attracting more defenders than he could reasonably compete against. That must get very frustrating I imagine...
Happy for Jones to get a call up.

Sadly Jones is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Great VFL player who will never make the grade. Harry is just biding his time.

Clem is on borrowed time alongside Foster and Dick.

Everitt and Tutt are gone.

Jaksch will probably be given more time.
