Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pick your best 22 players
Interesting for me is the very strong consistency of the best 22 among posters, despite so many of the list playing zero games in navy blue.

Will be watching the pre-season games more closely than usual :-)

For people in the south and east - linking up east link to the ring-road
makes _way_ more sense than turning the eastern
into another tolled car park as commuters pay to wait in a tunnel at a slow moving off-ramp.

You can imagine how the regional towns were so happy about loosing tafes, hospitals and driving on crumbling roads so the money can be spent on an eastern suburbs indulgence which does not stack up.

It won't move trucks off the road because it doesn't go through to the west.

I won't help commuters because it dumps commuters at the same clogged exits.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: "Carlton Must Voice Realistic Goals To Members" - (Patrick Smith) SEN
Agree with Blue for Life.

We have been middle rung or lower for some time. Between a "jobs for the boys" recruiting dept. and the compromised draft, we have gone no-where.

To me the MM hire was a man who desperately wanted to stay in the game, matched perfectly with a board living in the past and wanting a quick win.

It just a repeat of Pagan, a per-retirement lap of dollars for a last decade game plan.

Its a repeat down to the expensive indulgence of a coaches pet.

Carlton owes Mick nothing, and he has a worse record than Ratten.

My wish is for a board, coach and recruiting dept. who are living in the present.

Not so long ago we had a high-school principle coaching the reserves - in his spare time.
Carlton has still not made it fully into the salary cap + draft professional era.

Hopefully the picks we get this year after a 10-14 finish from a tougher draw, plus the better looking footballers from the last two drafts - can be the basis for a genuinely competitive side, supported by an upgraded board.

Mick can stay - he can coach, but only without the decrepit "boundary line" game plan.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Carlton vs North Melbourne
Have to 110% agree with Baggers - a few posts ago.

After a pre-season where we have been written off, and North pumped as genuine top 4 material, personally I'm feeling much more positive.

With many key players out we beat a almost full strength side, with the foot off the gas in the last.

Loved the genuine improvement in players like Bell, Buckley, Menzel and especially Watson. Kenny was a definite plus.

Happiest about the fact there were few passages of play, when we were trying, when North was not harrassed.
At the fall of the ball there were more blues.
We Sheparded - that's new.

So individual performances aside we looked like a better functioning _team_.
With less disposals we won.
We generally made better decisions possibly because they know exactly what was expected of them, which fed into confidence, which helps decision making, then repeat.

Yes, have to agree with Baggers - very positive.

If you are talking major factors in Tone's triumph you can't ignore three years of 100% solid cheerleading from every one of the Murdoch Mouths.

Everything Labour said was rubbish and did was a disaster.

Everything Tone spouted was fact, and the country could only be saved by putting Tone in the chair ASAP.

As the propaganda masters know if you say a lie often and loudly enough it gains traction, especially if brayed in unison by a herd.

Labour was far from perfect - but no-where near as bad as they were portrayed.

The structural tax deficit is largely due to upper and middle class welfare put in place by Howard. First thing Tone does is to cut super benefits to all but the rich. Murdoch approves.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pass-mark for 2014
Finishing sixth means we will get a harder draw next season.
Would be very pleased if we finish in the eight, win a final and don't drop any games to teams we should beat.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: ELIMINATION FINAL : Blues V Tigers (Pre-Game Patter)
Judd at 80% or better is worth playing.
Scotland hasn't got going this season so would be inclined to leave him out.
McLean would need to be 110% fit to play as he is not quick when fit, and the tigers are a fast team.

Fingers crossed the match commitee gets it right.

Will be there with my Tiges supporting hubby. At least one of us will have a team still in the finals Monday.

Just buzzed about being in the finals at all - Go Blues !!!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 17 : Blues Defeat Kangaroos (After-Match Defibrillators)
Watson was not flash, but he beat his man, his huge torp resulted in a goal - highlight for me, and he took that great contested mark - certainly a pass tonight - was definitely better than last week.
Maybe its a confidence thing, and if he gets a run at it will get confidence, then react with good judgement a bit more naturally. ATM he looks like he is thinking his way through things rather than reacting.
