What a vexing issue. A real 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' thing.

You'd love to see Moucey given the chance to do what she loves, but she does have an unfair advantage, but if you point out that advantage... you're a pr1ck, if you advocate for fairness and inclusion her on-field opponents can suffer. There must be another solution but the people in each corner of the debate are equally vehement... but it seems to me it aint an 'either/or' situation. In fact, I give up!! :-[

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Club & Coach Ratings
It's going to be an interesting year!

But I'm not sure we can afford to consign ourselves to yet another rebuild under another new coach, so I am keen to see if BB can work with what he's got available, something he seemed to lack last season!

Doesn't have to follow that new coach means another rebuild, Spotted One. Plenty of senior coaches come in an work with what they inherit and succeed, especially if the list is good (obviously). But it does seem that the Board is giving BB every chance to succeed now... much better list, a fitness guru who he is familiar with, and so on.

But, until I see tangible improvement where it counts (W/L ratio) I'm in the skeptics corner re BB (and would be rapt to be wrong) and there'd want to be significant improvement by mid year or earlier.

Oops. I forgot Schumacher....not that he'd really push anyone out of the firsts.....or even seconds really.

Looks good but keep your powder dry, trade period aint done yet. Still hoping we will grab a Barlow type for grunt work in the guts for a year or two to help the younger blokes. Ps I'd have Murphy as a small forward with Fasolo (super headache for opposing coaches/assuming that Pickett and Garlett continue to be ...not much) and Fisher as an on-baller.

oh, ok.

It's old school, but clearly worked for Manton....

I know a lot of psychs and they're scary f...ers, personally and professionally.

Almost en masse, so I'm dubious about your argument to be honest.

Wow, what an incredible sweeping generalisation! Suddenly you've obliterated those in the psychological caring professions. The psych professions are no different to any other... you get the spectrum of folks, though continued better training is weeding out the 'scary' ones as you put it. But the one thing that does unite most in the psych professions is a sincere and unrelenting desire to help others, often at their own expense... and rarely for monetary gain.

You know his year was savaged early on with injury. Played good footy for the Cats. Need to see a bloke fit before making judgement.

In BBs own words, we only play blokes who are in form. So that's what he gets judged on... if you take the field you're declaring you're ready. A bloke called Nick Graham would gladly have taken his place. We've got to stop making excuses and apologies for our coaches, recruiting and players.

Coaching very average tonight Jim...Laird allowed to sit off the play on his own and rack up the possies.....coaching box needs a shakeup..

Even two of the commentators on FOX (ex players, Brown was one) were having digs at BBs coaching... never heard that from either of them before and you could hear they were hesitant and didn't want to nail BB but the coaching was just so bad it had to be mentioned.

There was nothing in last night's (or the season for that matter) coaching to instill any confidence in this little black duck that BBs the man for next year. Nuh. It'll be more of the same.

It was the last game of the year, the players should have been fired up and enthusiastic to enjoy the night... instead they seemed clueless, directionless, spiritless, confused and lethargic. It was a disgrace. The jumper was humiliated and you can't take that back.

I understand folks look for positives and to find reasons (injuries etc) for last night's debacle.... but the reality is this group needs a strong, experienced senior coach, a leader. Because BB sure as hell has lost them, and the blow-torch should be on others in the coaching box... Barker... vamoose please.

It should have been the easiest gig of the year, getting blokes up for the last game. Nuh. The players sent a very clear message to all and sundry last night in terms of their understanding of the game plan, and those who sell it to them.

Whenever I hear Cormann speak I think Nuremberg rally.

Thought the same thing.

You could just imagine Abetz, Abbott, Anning, Cormann, Cash, Bernardi, Dutton, Jones, Hadley, Albrechtsen, Bolt etc etc looking quite at home wearing swastikas or white pointy hoods with the eyes cut out!

This site is such a small sample of society, but in three pages there are several that are addicts and suffering because of them. If this is representative of our society then the problem is massive.  There have been a couple of posts that have increased my understanding (particularly Baggers & Flyboy) - thanks for that.

Two comments/questions - they are genuine and maybe simplistic, but maybe someone can help:
1) Are there more addicts just due to general awareness of addiction then say the 80s
2) Is the decline of face to face interaction - loss of human relationships, easy use of social media (ie generally showing your best, rather than vulnerabilites) and proliferation of, say, gambling sites factors that are increasing addictions?

Also, without wanting to be intrusive, is there anything a common person like me can do to help a person who is showing addictive traits or has an addiction?

DODGE, you ask important and intelligent questions and I get that you're serious about learning more and 'doing your bit.' I'll try to help out a bit.

Your first question is a ripper and it's both mate. There is more reporting/awareness AND there is more and growing addictions/abuses of drugs.

I reckon you have realised that your first question in many regards is answered by your second question. You bet there is cost in the loss of 'community' which is being rapidly replaced by the 'instant gratification' you get from computers. I recall a forensic psychologist buddy saying to me many, many years ago that with the advent of the computer and 'push button results/pleasures' that human relationships will suffer. Drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, eating excessively, alcohol etc deliver 'instant gratification' big time.

So what's right at the core of so much trouble - your 2nd ripper question. We're communal creatures finding it very difficult to live in an economic model full of it's expectations and pressures. Then comes along the seductive ads promising distraction from our sadness and/or troubles with all these yummy drinks,  relationship fulfillments, computers, iPhones that just do everything and so many other things we can 'buy' for immediate pleasure.

There are things you can do to help someone who is an addict. But it's limited. You're really trying to help them to admit they've got a problem, because until they do that they may very well suck the life out of you before moving onto someone else. Sometimes the best things you can do is walk away from them! But rather than potentially bore everyone even more by going into further explanation... how about we PM each other and I'll try to help out? I work in this area and am always, always keen to help out in any way I can. And well done for asking.
