Ladies Lounge / AFLW: Dees receive compensation for Pearce
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-09-12/aflw-dees-receive-compensation-for-pearce
Quote
AFLW rules allow for list changes and possible compensation past the point of final list lodgements following the trade and re-signing period.

Quote
And the AFL confirmed Melbourne has added a player on its list to replace skipper Daisy Pearce, who is pregnant and won't play next season.
Quote
....while Carlton will be allocated pick 42. [For Sophie Li]
Seems the AFL are happy to dish out compensation picks left, right and center for AFLW players/teams.

Hopefully they are still in the giving mood with us.

Ladies Lounge / VFLW League B+F results - Vescio 5th. - VFLW Team of the year
Jess Duffin has taken out the VFLW 'brownlow'/league B+F

Top 5...
Jess Duffin (Williamstown) 23
Lauren Pearce (Darebin) 17
Angela Foley (NT Thunder) 16
Emma Mackie (Hawthorn) 15
Darcy Vescio (Carlton) 15

Now, i knew Vescio missed a lot of games because she went on holidays for a month or so in the middle of the season.

So i checked how many games each of them played, and worked out votes/game.

Also she made the team of the year...

The 'new' top 5 would be....
1. Jess Duffin - 1.76 votes/game
2. Darcy Vescio - 1.67
3. Lauren Pearce - 1.54
4. Emma Mackie - 1.25
5. Angela Foley - 1.23

As it turns out Duffin played 13 games, Vescio just 9.

Congrats to our girl Vescio who won the goalkicking and finished top 5 as well. (Top 2 by average)

Look for a big year from her in AFLW!

She was also the only current player to make VFLW - 2 ex-carlton players made it though...
B: Van Dyke (Hawthorn), Goring (Geelong), Gillespie-Jones (Melbourne Uni)
HB: Riddell (Melbourne Uni), McDonald (Darebin), Jakobsson (Casey)
C: Brown (Southern Saints), Duffin (Williamstown, captain), Beeson (Hawthorn)
HF: D'Arcy (Collingwood), Garner (Williamstown), Sedunary (NT Thunder)
F: Bullas (Essendon), Vescio (Carlton), Clifford (Geelong)
Foll: Watt (Southern Saints), Cranston (Geelong), Foley (NT Thunder)
Int: Swanson (NT Thunder), Alexander (Collingwood), Edmonds (Richmond), Birch (Western Bulldogs), Pearce (Darebin), Mackie (Hawthorn)

Ladies Lounge / AFLW announce 'conferences' for 2019
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2018-09-07/aflw
Quote
The format of the AFL Women’s competition will be reshaped in 2019, as the AFL announced it will introduce a new conference system.

With Geelong and North Melbourne set to join the league next year, the expanded 10-team competition will play two conferences of five teams. Teams will play four conference games and three cross-over games.

Carlton will find out who will be in its conference when the fixture is released in October.

Finals?

Quote
The two top teams in each conference will contest preliminary finals on the weekend of March 23 – 24. Teams that finish first in each conference will host.

The NAB AFLW Grand Final will be played between the two preliminary-final-winning teams, with the Grand Final host determined by team with greatest number of wins in the home and away season and percentage, if needed.

I think this is a good step for the AFL.
Yes, they screwed up by reducing the number of games in the AFLW season, but i think this idea will keep it interesting for more teams.

I've long been an advocate of some kind of conference system within the mens game in a way to eliminate the unfair fixturing problem the AFL has forced upon itself.
I think this is a good way to test the waters of the general public.

Now we just gotta see who we get in our conference. Not sure if i want Collingwood to be in our conference or the other one so we can beat them in the GF....which we couldn't do if we were in the same conference.

Ladies Lounge / Congrats: Tayla Harris
So not only did she win the CSC B+F in a close contest she picked up 2 awards last night at the AFLW AA.

She was the only Carlton player to get picked in the AA team of 21. That makes it 2 from 2 for Tayla.

She also managed to win the Mark of the Year. That makes 2 from 2 for Carlton as Vescio won it last year.

Some people were complaining about her recruitment, but surely this swag of awards, with the B+F still to come, should change peoples minds on her.

...and if all that fails, she not too hard on the eyes either. Isn't that right Jimbo.

In: J.Hosking, M.Keryk, T.Cochrane, N.Plane, L.Attard, S.Last
Out: R.Hicks (rested), L.Brazzale (injured), L.Arnell (injured), C.Webb (rested)

Happy with Jess and Keryk back.
Good to see Attard finally getting a game.
Brazzalle and Arnell both injured again is disappointing.
Hicks has had a rough trot and i would've dropped her instead of Jess last week.
Webb out won't phase us.

Interesting to note that despite an article about Bianca Jakobbson during the week coming up against her old side, she is the only out at this stage, injured. Thats a big plus for us.

Ladies Lounge / Rising star - Breann Moody
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2018-03-06/moody-earns-rising-star-nomination
Quote
CARLTON ruck Breann Moody has been rewarded for her solid performance against Adelaide on Saturday night, receiving the Round 5 AFLW Rising Star nomination.

Moody, who celebrated her 21st birthday on Sunday, racked up 29 hit-outs, 11 disposals and five clearances at Norwood Oval.

Thought she had better games that this, but its probably like the mens in which you get it based on a collection of games, rather than just one.

Congrats in any event.
