2018 AFLW Draft

Not as well publicized as the Men's, but very important for the 2019 season. It is on at the moment.

Was pretty much as predicted, we are lucky the AFLW draftees can nominate zones which let her slip to pick #3 otherwise she would have been pick #1.

I wonder if they will ever bring the equivalent to the AFL draft? :o

Despite the institutionalised hatred, sometimes the system cannot stop us profiting! ;D

Not disappointed, but the zonal system has some really irrational results.

Pick 16: Carlton: Abby McKay

Another of our VFL lasses, Brancatisano, was stolen by Melbourne with pick 15.  :'(

Pick 21: Carlton: Jayde van Dyke
This year's VFL Rising Star, Jayde played for Hawthorn in the VFL.

Pick 27: Carlton: Charlotte Wilson

A reasonably tall and very athletic defender, Charlotte was the Eastern Ranges' co Captain. She played 5 games for the Southern Saints in the VFL this year.

I'm glad to hear.

A mate describes Prespakis as a female Diesel, gets leather poisoning and not a long kick but hits targets with both feet out to 30m.

Looks like we're going a balanced approach. Good mix of mids and defenders which we need both of.

Bit surprised to see her slip this late, but as you point out this may be a curiosity of the nomination zones.

It has allowed some pretty impressive players appear in odd places, that is for certain.

38, 40, 42, 49
4 more picks to come!

If I am correct this year's draftees are the first class of the AFLW Draft Camp / Academy, so we should be seeing players with tests results that are more relevant than ever before.

Indeed. With our midfield disaster this year and 2 of our best defenders leaving, we needed to address both of those areas. I am much happier in that respect this time.

Indeed, and I, for one, have missed having this sort of data.

Pick 38: Carlton: Emerson Woods
Another whose athleticism stood out at the Draft Camp.

Emerson still sounds like a strange name for a girl (or a boy, for that matter). Good luck to the lass and a long career with the Blues!
A winger with real speed.
