Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 11 2024 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Gold Coast
For years we have needed a player able to lock down the small clever forwards. Would have thought that Cincotta's performance over the last couple of games has been quite promising. Particularly his work on Demon's Pickett.   Hope he retains his place, as we face Power and Willie Rioli five days later.
Will be great to have Motlop back, but agree with those suggesting after at least one VFL game.
Fingers crossed that Binns gets the nod this week as reward for consistent performances.

I reckon Binns will be a ripper, perhaps the next Berkeley Cox … if he sharpens his elbows 🙂

I think that the cautious approach to his development is more likely to bear fruit.

Despite some disappointment he is not in this week, I admit the old Carlton used to let them develop in the seconds for a fair while and that system appeared to work okay. Was it Curly Austin who did his time in the seconds winning their BF before promotion to firsts?    Remember a HBF with long hair anyway.

Folk aren’t seriously comparing Binns with Robbie Flower or Jimmy Buckley?

I think that Binns could be a decent footballer and his form on the VFL this season and last season backs that up.  His first AFL game cameo was promising and his VFL form has been outstanding over two seasons.  However, he tends to drift out of games and is too easily brushed aside.

No of course not, Robbie Flower was a champion. Only time will tell how good a footballer Binnsie becomes.
Merely making the point that lighter footballers can make the grade, if they are good enough.   Someone has mentioned David Glascott (71kg).  Mathew Lappin (77kg) known as "Skinny" also comes to mind. Young versions of these guys would be handy to day!  :)  :

Yep. My TV barely survived that one.

Further to that, doesn’t matter which player of ours it was, why the hell were they 3 metres away? For god’s sake, if anyone should have a player’s hand placed on their chest by way of tracking their position in space and time, it’s Cameron - especially when the game’s on the line in the last few minutes.

Yes, can't help but agree totally.  Where was the Carlton player whose job was to wear Cameron (Geelong's most dangerous forward) like a skin?  At least Binnsie tried to man up, but hardly his role.
Feel for our coaches watching on such inept defensive work

Yes lucky to win, but boys persevered and had that late momentum. Great courage and endeavour by Zac Williams to drive that ball into Charlie Curnow for his crucial late goal.

What a change to be travelling in a train of mainly Carlton supporters. No-one hissing either  :)
Then at the game wow,  huge supporter numbers

When Freeo took the ball out on the Eastern wing, they usually had a paddock to work in. We need some outside runners badly!
