Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Jim Park Voting 2024 AFL Rd 6 Carlton vs GWS
To me it's a bit unfair that Australian's serving in peacekeeping, piracy and policing roles OS aren't recognised equally with those who fight in wars. In some ways a clerk serving in a supply depot in Melbourne during WWII gets more recognition and benefits than a peacekeeper being shot on a foreign continent.

I've a friend who has a son is currently deployed OS with operational groups, they are as actively involved in diplomacy as they are in other more "risky" duties. Being an officer he has to do both roles and that actually puts him at greater risk, just because we aren't at war at the moment doesn't mean they aren't at risk from rockets, drones, snipers, IEDs, mines, grenades, etc., etc..

On another note, in many ways those involved investigating drugs and organised crime policing are also at huge risk here and abroad.

we need to make cats defenders ACCOUNTABLE no zoning off taking those marks with no pressure ,so this means us hitting targets going forward start to winning the game
Teams can only go one on one with good effect when they are a physical match or perhaps stronger than opponents, I'm not sure our F50 is a physical match for the Handbaggers D50. It's easy to say blokes like Ollie, Fantasia and Owies need to be accountable, but if they are too easily brushed aside by bigger heavier bodies it's already a lost contest.

Assuming a mostly unchanged line up, I think our best tactic would be to run off the Handbaggers and make good and smart use of the footy off the HBF or through the Mid. With Cottrell, Owies, Acres, Hollands x 2, BigH, Charlie and TDK, we have a well above average aerobic group for that mix of body types.

Don't mind replacing Fantasia, but Moir is still a fair way off. He will be given plenty of time to develop before being paraded out a la Binns. With one or two exceptions, we are right into development and ensuring young players have served a comprehensive apprenticeship.
Oddly, after being very disappointed with Fantasia's first few games I think now is the wrong time to change him.

In his early games he exerted almost zero influence, had no impact on the play and had few possessions.

Last weekend he started to get more involved, had some physical presence against a relatively big bodied team, and even though he still had few possessions it showed he was starting to get involved. Not sure what his record is like against the Handbaggers but I'd persist with him.

Why then has De Koning's frees against average remained remarkably consistent across his entire career?  On the other hand, his frees for average has been steadily climbing.
One or two games of stats won't make a big difference to overall stats, but after a couple of games the umpiring effectively forced TDK into changing his technique when there wasn't anything actually wrong with it. All because of Scott whinging.

We had plenty of debate about this at the time, and the influence of our ruck coaches, surely you remember.

We must not assume ever week will be like last weekend, especially this week.

Do not forget the Handbaggers were the team that complained about TDK last season getting the umpires onside to start penalising TDK in the latter part of the first half of the season. Penalised for basically jumping higher than opponents and as a result putting his knee in their chest. TDK was punished, punished for Scott's actions of basically playing an undone Stanley and an inured Blicavs in the ruck.

Last week Conway is another monster, gave McInerney a touch up, and after the injury to Stewart we saw Scott using Cameron behind the ball as a mobile stoppage option. TDK won't get such an easy or open run if Cameron repeats this strategy.

I suspect there is a huge difference between real world results and fan expectations or assessments.

Even after last weekend, TDK / Pitto is not "a thing" or "the thing" for every circumstance.

Thankfully Voss agrees!

The best thing about the TDK / Pitto combination last weekend, is that our MC now holds the upper hand. In the absence of injury we can go with Plan A or Plan B and keep opponents guessing, we have two functional options.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Best 22 of 2024 - Part 3 - After Round 6
I find it's getting difficult to narrow it down to 22, because I think the best team probably comes from 24 or 25 players subject to the opposition. In that regard I find a best 22 a bit redundant, in much the same way handing out medals on GF day to the "22" is also redundant.

Fantasia might be ready for a spell in the 2's.
Hardly had any footy but ironically it was probably his best game, even so 6 disposals isn't going to cut it, he needs to find a way to get involved in more chains of play.

Of course it might be his job to otherwise get in the way of opponents or drag them away from the footy.

Just makes me feel a bit sorry for Fogarty, kid did nothing wrong and fractured his wrist, can't take a break.

Not sure Greene should get a week for that.

Hogan absolutely
Probably a week is about correct, if Toby had soften the impact by pushing Boyd in the chest then it wouldn't be a penalty. But the moment he turned his shoulder into Boyd's head it's only luck that stops it becoming a nasty incident.

btw., Shows just how poor the AFL was on the Maynard, who ended a players career and got away with it!

Hogan's a goose, deserves a week for a pissweak slap.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2024 Rd 4 Carlton vs Port Melbourne at Carlton
Moir's first goal was like he was a natural left footer, and the next goal, like he was a natural right footer. His defensive game is coming along well, also. Obviously a focus. Reckon we might see him a little sooner than some may expect.
Possible, but he's still pretty patchy over four quarters, a bit like Motlop has been.

I think while the team is strong there is absolutely no reason to rush guys in, I don't think we did Motlop or the team many favours playing him so early.

We need to be more like the Handbaggers, and have them cherry ripe for when they get the opportunity and having an impact rather than clinging to a spot by the bare minimums.

You'll notice in the Voss post match that even the media is still trying to beat up the two rucks bullsh1zen, it even felt like some were barracking for us to be run over to win points in the two rucks debate.

But Voss is the genuine article, he told the media when prompted there isn't such a thing as being "Locked In" to one configuration, at least we know the coach isn't letting the bullsh1zen burn his mindset. It always was and always will be horses for courses, it's the only sane option.
