Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 2 2022 Post Game Permutations Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
Carlton fans when we kick 6 goals 18 behinds- forget this rubbish about "if only we'd kicked straight" we were outplayed and crap kicking was a result of the pressure we put ourselves under

Carlton fans when we win but the opponent kicked 13 goals 12 behinds- If they'd kicked straight we would have lost that. We were lucky to win that.

He just has the composure and work rate which we needed. I love watching gallop away with ball in hand, it’s nice to start feeling confident in a players ability consistently rather than watch behind your hands.

Did we miss Jones last night?

I had to laugh in the post match interview... Docherty asked about McGovern and talking about high risk, high reward type stuff. He said they just had to be patient and be prepared to mop up when it didn't go MM's  way. I thought that they could have been talking about Jones.

The playing value of Eddie Betts has been questioned a bit especially earlier in the season.
He's playing some pretty good football at the moment.
He is one whose value is good, and place in the side is more than merited.

But I've also noticed that at breaks in play (after goals etc) he's very animated with the other players, talking, explaining, instructing...whatever it is, it's like having an assistant coach on the field.

We were behind the goals at the game yesterday and it was obvious how well Betts reads the game and how he directs those around him.

How good is a win?
Made sure my boy watched the replay and he has been replaying the Carlton moves through the house for the last 2 days.
You'd wonder that we did win if you listened to a few fans around the traps.

Well done to the boys. If you cant see obvious improvements this year, you're not looking hard enough, or merely looking for the negatives.

On player's becoming coaches... I believe that the more natural a player is, the less likely he will to become a great coach. Not to say he couldn't, but it seems to me that the guy's who have to work the hardest to get the most out of themselves and their career seem to have a better handle on coaching, and communicating to those in development.

We had Bolten coaching for the future. Selections for the future. Positioning players for the future. Most supporters weren't happy with that. We were losing and nearly all of our players, senior one's included, have never been part of a successful team.
Coaching and selecting for the future is fine when you have a culture and players that have seen success. Or if you realise success in a reasonable time frame. But our club is devoid of success and we need to be chasing whatever wins we can get. We need to be putting our best side out there every week, maybe rotating new players in and out, but unless injuries dictate, only 1 or 2 of the new guys each week.
The players don't know how to be successful. This shambolic season has allowed them to start to experience a couple of wins and they should be doing everything in the club's power to continue that.

Dixon charged from the forward line to the middle in one passage of play and our blokes jumped out the road and didnt want to challenge him.He is one of the few rough nuts in the game and the media sell him as that, Jones was intimidated, Dixon is a one off big unit and needed to be double teamed, not sure why we left Jones tackle him on his own all the time and I'm not blaming Jones.
You look at the photo MBB posted and Dixon is a much stronger unit than Jones who isnt small either...it should have been a free but Dixon gets away with it like Barry Hall did because the umps are too weak to call it and would call it a show of strength even thought its head high.
In the old days a Andrew Walker would have filled the gap in front of Dixon and taken the lead away, might have led to some pain but Dixon would have alter his game and so would Port.

I miss 1AW

Deags - doesn't quite work that way re: Levi miss.  We will never know what would have happened.  What if Port kicked the first of there easy misses late in the last?  We would have had more time to be attacking and get the goal back - or they might have kicked another.  Who knows

That was my point.
We cant say Port Missed goals therefore they should have won easily. It doesnt work that way. Same as we cant say what about Levi.

The knock on Matt Kennedy has been that he was too slow. He was anything but on Sunday, spreading with the best of them. Whether it is a loss of weight, ankles working properly or whatever, but he showed good pace on the weekend.

I thought his disposal at times was a bit sus, but his pressure was great and his running and positioning was first class.
Well done to him.

[2] Ruck:
We have a big weakness here. Pittonet did a great job, but he was killed early. He is going to play games for us for some time. However, he isn't the guy to dominate. We need a top ruckman and we don't have one.

There's been a few people on here saying similar.
I don't get it.
Bloke plays his first game for us. Gets smashed in the first quarter, but without much help from his midfielders. Comes back to win the following 3 quarters.
So on the basis of what weve seen from this guy, you are saying he cant be our frontline ruck?
I'm not saying he is definitely going to be all that, but geez, give him a chance before we write him off.
