Blah-Blah Bar / Re: US Presidential Election 2016
I saw this quote somewhere, and i thought how poignant.

If i ha to choose between these two, I would vote Trump,

Because I would rather handle a baby squealing pig, rather than a venomous snake

Believable at worst.

IMHO the people who wield the power seem intent on distracting the public from real issues they should be concerned with.

Did you know that seven species of bees have been added to the endangered list?

Honey bees some native to Hawaii.

No bees no pollination.

I'll let people fill in the rest. Surprisingly it didn't get a mainstream media mention.

Does anyone get the idea that if not for a candidate like trump a candidate like Clinton would never get up and that trump was chosen as candidate to ensure the next American president would be female?

If Hilary can't beat trump in this election then I'll be stumped as to how it happened.

I know this is a bit tin foil cap like, but fork me how could any party pick this moron as a candidate?  It's like picking a three legged horse to win the Melbourne cup. It might get a run but it's got no chance of winning unless people let it.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Loyalty
I think that for plenty of players footy is their job, they don't really care where they play.

There is probably a difference as well when the club decides that a player is to go vs a player telling the club they don't want to be there

Loyalty is mainly a notion for fans and older ones at that as AFL becomes more about the $$ than anything else.

I think, when trying to understand this thought process the best way to do it, is to look at it in the context of your regular worker.

Some people, have a lot of pride in themselves, and will flourish in any environment because they want to prove their worth but the second they find a better offer they walk out the door (this sounds too familiar).

Some people, will become stale in the same environment for too long because they are not developed as people.  The second you start to challenge them to grow as workers be it, a change in role, more responsibility, or even just understanding how they fit into the bigger picture of achievement, it can reinvigorate them as workers.  (This again sounds too familiar).

Others no matter what you do for them, see it as a pay packet, will put in the minimum requirement and move on.  (This might apply to a few at our club across the journey.  Hopefully we are weeding out the last of them).

Apply that context to footy players, and then you have an accurate picture of where our football club has really failed over the last 15 years.

This is why we need to get better at developing people.

This is why we need to get better at treating people fairly and not creating scapegoats here there and everywhere as it breeds resentment.

This is why we need to get better at setting standards.

I know for a while there proffesionally, I was being disrespected for my contribution, and wasnt encouraged to learn, train and gain new skills.  My performance suffered accordingly.  Back to the minimum effort required to get the job done.

That changed with a shift in management initiative, and it can stem from something small.  I.e. I was sent on a one week course in something semi relevant to my job, but would improve my employment prospect = an increase in productivity, commitment to the cause, and putting in additional hours without being asked for it, and the only thing that shifted was how my employer made me feel about working for them.

If we can zero in on this aspect of the club and get that going well, we will start to improve in ways we hadnt even considered.

For the record, Bolton (to a lesser extent Steven Trigg) looks to be the people who understand the above and are working on fixing it.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Goodbye Dennis Cometti
I hope so.

Anyone is better than Basil Zempilas.   The guy barracks for western australian teams when he is calling and is boring as watching paint dry.

Commetti has some of the best one liners in the game.  He is like the iconic commentary team members from the 90's who were all distinctly different, but had charachter.

Oscar was a big walker fan too.

Walker retired and was in and out of the side.

He's what four, five?

He's going to have plenty of favourite footy players and cripps or weitering could be one.

Are you guys really arguing who won a debate?

People are going to give a biased answer based on who they wanted to win.

What a farcical democratic process.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Talking Tactics - Our Forward Structure In 2017
^^

LP, I would say at this point, its not worth posting numbers.

The argument has merit.  Casboult does perform better playing up the ground be it part time rucking, or getting on his bike.

Dont really need to support it statistically.  We see it most weeks.  He usually gains confidence and kicks better for it too when its time to score goals.

The argument of we need another target in our forward line is generally acceptable.  One that can allow him to get up the ground so he can perform better.  It also shows benefit to our team in the wins we had this year as he generally played better with Jones and Everitt in the side.

I know you fixate on ruck contests a bit, but its not an argument worth making.  Casboult is a different type to Kreuzer.  They can work together.

Why are you taking it personally?  I was responding to Panahi rather than you.  By pasting her article, you were inviting comment on it.

I knew you'd posted about Trump and I therefore didn't regard you as a Trump booster.  In my mind's eye, I see you in the "disruptor" category, those dissatisfied with the present political system.  That's not a criticism, at least in my mind. The bulk of Sanders supporters are too.

Hell it proves he has brains.

For me, I would state the only way the American people can win on this choice is if they don't vote.

It would send a clear message to the government surrounding lifting their standards, and I was borderline thinking that this might be the way forward in Australia too.

I dont know why you would want him using his bulk.

Much better to let him have multiple opponents, and for us to hit the free player with the ball rather than aim for him, and he can just roam around getting the odd kick, and the odd get out of jail high ball in.

Its not like we have a plethora of crumbing forwards.

The Sports Desk / Re: Big Name Sporting Events Around The World - Been To Any ??
Ive been to Portugal to watch 8 matches of the European cup that was held there in 2004 including the Final, Semi Final, Quarter Final, and another 5 group stage matches.

Ive also been to watch a Uefa cup qualifier in Portugal just a few weeks ago (my team from Greece was coincidentally there when we were visiting my wifes family).

Good times.
