I like it, and it's a necessary part of selling the message to the faithful that Bolton is the man for us moving forward.
In fact it might be a major driver in why we made it, because it helps restore the faith in a disconnected fan base and really hits home that we are a different club now.
Docherty is the man to eventually replace the spirit of Simmo in the team IMO. Give him another year or two. Has the same kind of grit, passion and dedication and will be an increasingly inspirational figure.
We need to find a replacement for Docherty then as he is already on the same level like you say.
Seemed to play his best when playing in defence on small forwards. Think he was doing that in 2014 when he had his best season. Provided alot of run out of there.
Thought he could go ok as a small forward but not so. Try him back in defence again and maybe release Touhy into the midfield.
This is an ok idea, but it seems to be about ensuring Dylan can get a game, rather than whats best for the team.
Tuohy is just as capable defensively, as is Byrne, and Sheehan who once again showed that he is a good kick of the footy even playing under duress on saturday. They all provide the same amount of dash off half back as Dylan, and they can all get up the field and be a threat like Dylan.
Dylan needs to give us better link up play running up the field or get into the centre and become more of a threat before even getting into the above conversation unfortunatley.
Jaksch looked like he couldn't be bothered being out there IMHO.
Thought he thinks he has more time than he does, and I reckon he might think he's a better player than playing in the VFL too.
I saw Travis Cloke play against Casey Scorpions a couple of weeks back, and I couldn't tell he wasn't happy to be there and he worked as hard as he could to try and force his way back in.
If Jaksch pulls his finger out he'll get a game.
From the others Gowers was my standout.
Graham was ok too. He does well at the foot of the contest.
I didn't think wood was terrible and thought he competed well in the ruck, but sandy seemed much better drilled than we were and had a few better players in their team like Dennis-lane and Eli Templeton who are handy at AFL level.
Possibly Thry but I doubt whether we'd go into a game with a player who can't run it out. Imagine if one of the fit players against Geelong wasn't match fit.
Over the last few seasons with the sub rule, new players or players returning after injury could be eased in. Now it's all or nothing.
As others have said, SOJ will play when the MC decides he's ready. I don't think he is but I'm not on the MC
It's ok provided everyone knows that they have earned their game.
The other point being ignored, is that sometimes blokes get a chance before they are ready through lack of other viable alternatives for that role.
Silvagni might get his chance simply because he is doing more than everyone else to earn it, even if he isnt yet ready to own it full time, and will be nursed through it accordingly so that his exposure to negative time at AFL level is minimised.
i.e. we have a lot of players on the list, who can forgo their rotation to give Silvagni a couple extra to get him through the game once he is there.
He will get there off his own work before making that choice, and it seems as though he isnt far off. Time will tell, but I am confident that even if he does get an early one it wont be to his detriment.
I think we have battled quite valiantly for 3 months of this year, and that we are probably overdue for a bit of a flat spot that will last a few weeks minimum.
Lets not forget, I dont believe we have had a win after a buy since we started having them again.
It would be a sensational result if Princes Park was reinstated as a genuine venue once again, I'm not sure how viable that option really is but it is worth aiming for.
The women need a ground to play at most weeks in Melbourne and I can't see many better options that are almost ready to go.
Then we can start angling wheeling and dealing on improving the place, and I reckon we will get our way in the court of public opinion and therefore government grants faster than you can say the words "misogyny" "equality".
There are many ways to get the council to approve what they have previously rejected but some ways are easier than others.
I can't see the AFL tipping in vast amounts of money if there is no return on their investment. I realise they throw money at GWS & GC but they are strategically located clubs who tie in importantly with their gazillion dollar TV rights deal.
The other issue that concerns me most is if this doesn't succeed, how exposed might we be when our finances are already not where we want them to be.
If we can get a bit of money and the relevant council approval to do up Princes Park and be able to use it for both men and women this team will pay for itself three times over in the next ten years.
This could be extremely lucrative for our footy club if we manage to work this the right way and that's with a woman's team that's insolvent. Imagine they actually get a bit of sponsorship, garner a crowd and turn a profit.
