Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 17: Carlton vs. Sydney
Went out to the game yesterday with my boy, just about the ultimate football experience for him.
I found out beforehand where the cheer quad were sitting and booked our seats with them.
We went to the pub beforehand for the pre match meet and greet, only downside for the day was not winning a raffle.
Legend bloke at the pub handed me an envelope and says to me “take your boy out on the field for the guard of honour”.
Lined up on the ground for cheers and high fives as the lads took the ground.
My boy had a ball screaming his head off and cheering at the top of his lungs with the cheer squad guys.
A win against my equal most hated team, a great win!
And As we are cheering for the boys down on the boundary after the game, Gibbons runs straight over to my son and hands him a signed ball.

The boy hasn’t stopped playing with it since we got home. He is pretending he is a Patrick Cripps & Marc Murphy running around the house kicking it and handpassing to himself.

Couldn’t have planned a more legendary experience for him.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Male Contraception
I think it matters more in long term relationships.
Many women, for one reason or another, cannot use hormonal contraception and may have some other reason they cant use a copper IUD.
Some men have difficulty performing (genuinely) with condoms.
I get what you are saying though, and agree.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 15: Carlton vs. Freo
Calling it luck is a bit bah humbug if you ask me.
Sure we gave them a start and weren’t even on the field in Q1, but to come back from over 5 goals down, then again from 2 goals down in the last quarter shows a lot of desire, effort and hard work.
The boys weren’t pretty, but that was a pretty major achievement.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre Game AFL Round 15 - Blues v Freo Shockers, 1720 AST, Optus Stadium
Agree....Fyfe runs all day and is a serious athlete, Ed will need a hand from say Kennedy to keep the pressure up on Fyfe. Never been a real Fyfe fan but watched a couple of Freo games this season and he does work hard and anyone playing on him will need their weetbix. He is averaging more disposals(30) per game than Cripps this season and at 192cm/96kg is Cripps like in size, he is a big unit...you add Mundy at 193/94kg and our blokes are going to very tired trying to bring those two down and its going to need team tagging and plenty of rotations.

Ed is one of the fittest in the comp. There aren't too many around who can match his endurance.
Having said that, always handy to have help.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 13: Carlton vs. Western Bulldogs
Dow reminds me of Judd, who BTW also had abysmal disposal.
If Dow can keep developing and find the ball as much as Judd did, he will be ok. i am not concerned about him.
I had big concerns around LOB. He went pretty well in the last game, he had some good possessions and used the ball reasonably well. I doubt he will be a world beater, but he will be a good AFL footballer. He is the type of guy that at any other club he would be playing in the 2s and likely wouldnt have been considered for a senior game at this point, but he is at Carlton and we aren't blessed with depth and he has shown improvement and definitely heart.

You reckon, if Gibbons can get a kick I cant see why Kelly wouldnt be able to get a few more given he has a lot more
talent. If you want delisted and back in the WAFL try Pickett and soon to be Garlett , and Lebois should be doing similar in the SANFL.
There is some serious talent in the State Leagues, the VFL, WAFL, SANFL etc have come a long way since the likes of Harold Martin and Phil Cleary were belting into each other
on a Sunday afternoon..

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little in terms of being delisted, but I maintain Kelly wouldn't be successful at our club.
For one thing, I think he is a lot better player due to the players around him. Even with his form, he is way down the list of players that opposition coaches would target for close attention.
Secondly, I doubt he would stick around playing for a club that cant win a game, especially when I doubt he would be a superstar in Navy. Too many things pulling him back to WA. Do you think he'd have stayed with Geelong this season if they werent winning games? I would suggest he may have gone back to WA and sat the year out.
Not going to comment on the others you have mentioned. It wasn't the intention of my post to denigrate Kelly or any of the other State League players.

Maybe SOS knew Tim Kelly would go home!

Even the Handbaggers seem resigned to the fact he's going to leave, a club we are supposed to model ourselves on can't hold onto the WA kid, what chance us?

On a separate issue, this is all hindsight, should haves and could haves, draft picks are not certainties, and sometimes how they pan out depends on who they play next to!

Exactly. Kelly would be a non event had he joined our club. Probably delisted and back in the WAFL.

My biggest criticism of Caro is that she never comments on actual football. Its always the negative, behind the scenes stuff. She is the Football equivalent of the gotcha paparazzi.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Flying the Flag
I think the problem with Waite was two fold:

1 - He would get suspended without hurting the opposition

2 - He missed a lot of games through injury, so adding more missed games through suspension hurt

I'm leaving the injury part out of it. If we want aggressive players, then we cant pick and choose who we get. It's natural for some guys, and not others.
My point is, that when we are crying out for aggression, crying out for guys to retaliate to opposition thugs and "draw a line in the sand", then sometimes the retaliator is going to get sanctioned. We need to accept that fact if we want someone standing up for the kids so to speak.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Flying the Flag
It is so interesting to read this debate on here.
We had a player named Waite a few years back. He was regularly the only bloke to "fly the flag" in a navy guernsey.
He got suspended for doing it and the outcry against him was palpable.
