Title: Northern Blues vs. Collingwood at Preston on Sunday
Post by: crashlander on July 03, 2014, 07:54:28 pm
In yet another marvelous piece of timing, we manage to be drawn to play the Meat Pies on Sunday, starting 1 hour after the seniors do at Etihad.
Could it have been done better? Almost impossible not to do it better, but....

Northern Blues vs. Collingwood
Sunday, July 06
Preston City Oval at 2:15pm

Northern Blues

B:   Docherty   Watson   Holman
HB:   Curnow   McInnes   Armfield
C:   Ellard   Cripps   Lucas
HF:   Cachia   B. Johnson   Garlett
F:   Anthony   Waite   Graham
R:   Wood   Bell   McLean
Int:   M. Gleeson*   Totevski   Wilson    Watson   Bolger   Temay    Dirago   Reynolds   Cattapan    Sheehan   Wilkinson   Walton    Byrne

Collingwood

B   Riddle   Maxwell   Yagmoor
HB   Clarke   Marsh   Armstrong
C   Mooney   Broomhead   Ramsay
HF   Matheson*   White   Karnezis
F   Gault   Reid   Freeman
R   Howe   Hellier   Martin
Int   Wallace   Suckling   J. Williams  Tyquin   R. Pendlebury   Allan   Ferguson   Moloney   Gray

Our team looks much stronger this week, even considering that the senior interchange players have not yet been selected. Having Cachia and Ellard and Cripps in makes a midfield, something generally lacking last week.

You say that about Temay most weeks and he ends up playing VFL seniors.

True. Temay seems to be the one. I think they are trying to tell HIM something, although I'm not sure what it is. I'd like to know what it is supposed to say to us, but I keep noticing it and it doesn't seem to change much.

The Docherty question is the one that is making me wonder this week: a typo? Do they mean Bell? White?
I guess we'll find out on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

I do look at this side with more hope. There is a lot more talent in it than recent times and a better chance of having a better midfield. Hopefully enough to get a win.

Docherty is a bit out of form, and struggled over the last couple.

May be blaming himself for the Geelong lost (the stoppage that Geelong scored from wouldn't have occurred had he kicked truly into our forwardline a few seconds prior) and this might be about giving him some Vfl time to build confidence again.  Not to mention too many kids might mean you burn a few.

I noticed Doc named too and thought it was weird.

But he just did the morning presser. Doesn't seem like he's been dropped.

I like the look of Sheehan and Byrne....for the former is a bit Dylan Sheil like and Byrne when he gets some more wieght on looks a handy goalkicking half forward type....
Lets hope Cripps gets through the game and we can get him back in the seniors....

He is one of 2 guys named who 'could' have been in the seniors: Him and Holman. I gather he is the interchange and Holman is the first emergency. I thought it strange, but that was how it was posted on the Northern website.

I take back what I said about Temay. Looks like he has been dropped. Not good signs.

Interesting tweets from Preston Oval.  Watson playing up forward and clunking a few. 3 goals.  Waite standing up when required. Wood very solid in the ruck and around the ground.

Ahead of Pies and will win.   Also looks like Cripps played, survived and picked up some good possessions.

Good to see Jeffy and Waite get amongst it.
Watson meh - Will be gone end of the year
Good news re Cripps. Needs a game or two more in the 2nds before he gets a recall.

This lot must have heard we had beaten the Aints, all of a sudden they got the message spots in the ones must be earned instead of being gifted! ;)

Cachia racking up touches in his first game back, same with Cripps.

A little bit disappointing really that more don't sultans up more frequently.

2014 Peter Jackson VFL
Northern Blues   3.2  6.4  10.7  16.9 (105)
Collingwood   2.7  8.11  9.12  12.15 (87)

GOALS:
Northern Blues: Waite 3 Watson 3 Garlett 2 Gleeson  Cripps  Ellard  Cachia  Wilson  Walton  Wood  Reynolds
Collingwood: Karnezis 4 Mooney 3 Broomhead  Williams  Howe  Gault  Suckling

BEST:
Northern Blues: Wood Anthony Waite Wilson Armfield Graham
Collingwood: Moloney Broomhead Williams Maxwell Gault White

This is just the things we all needed to see. Pity Reynolds continues to show so little, but he did kick a goal. 21 disposals to Waite was excellent.
DISPOSALS: Cachia 26, Graham 22, Wilson 21, Cattapan 20, Cripps 20, Garlett 20

Hopefully someone was there to shed some light on the effort, but it looks good to me from here.

YEP - played on ball and huge influence.  It is possible we have seen for the first time what Jeffy could do if he got his tank up enough to play meaningful midfield minutes - outside mid with electrifying pace, perhaps  forward pocket swapping with Yarran if Yaz plays wing when YAz needs a break.

Now all we need to do is get his tank up to the required standard.

I heard Collingwood had quite a few injuries and ended up with not much bench for the last quarter and a bit, is that true?

Jeffy's tank should not be an issue.

He was one of the few who could play the MM way early last year for entire games.

There is no reason for him to have lost any of his fitness base.
